Actually, I am not angry. I am happy for him and I think his book Applied Cryptography was excellent and still serves as a great reference text.
What I have a problem with is the security pundits who add no real value to the discussion besides stating the obvious . His success today is more like that of an IT pop star preaching to the choir. Anger and jealousy don't fit into it....I can admire his past achievements and disagree with his current approach at the same time.
It's called transferring risk. The risk still exists but I pay someone else to mitigate it. There are some risks that a company may not be in a position to address themselves. Either due to conditions in the market place, lack of expertise, or excessive regulatory requirements.
Educating users is probabaly the easiest and cheapest way to reduce risk. It doesn't cost a lot of money or take a lot of time. The problem is most companies just don't do it. You might be looking at a cost of $100 per employee per year and 30 minutes to an hour to take a class.
Most companies mention it during orientation but never provide on-going training or support to their employees when it comes to security issues. In this case the infosec team needs to get out of their cubes and walk around and talk to people to be sure they can advise fellow employees on security risks and get the lowdown on which manager proposed something stupid this week. 90% of the security teams job should be education be it educating developers, system admins, general counsel, marketing, exec admins, or the board of directors.
I can't wait until this guy starts doing late night infomercials. If there is one thing Bruce its really good at...it's marketing. I remember when he gave me an autographed copy of Secrets and Lies for dropping 20 grand with Counterpane....I will cherish it forever
Never rely on other people, companies or things for your stability. Your stability is your responsibility and no one else's. Everything changes if you can't deal with that it's no one else's problem or responsibility but your own. If your happiness is defined by the UI of a website you have serious problems. It's meaningless...does the sun going down make you feel insecure? How about running water....does that make you unstable? When the wind blows do you get panicky?
I would also add Qutb's In the Shade of the Qurâ(TM)an to that list to get a handle on what is motivating the fundamentalist muslims. Because as with most religious texts it's not the original texts it's the commentaries that cause the problems.
Companies rarely show you the door for lying on your resume unless you make a nice public mistake. Look at it this way....if you are lying on your resume you are providing a "get out of jail free" card to your boss.
If they are not competent, do you really want to work for them?
The investment banks didn't convince the ratings agencies to do anything. The investment banks went to the structured finance departments of the ratings agencies to package these things for them. Then the ratings agencies rated something that they packaged themselves. Most of the profit increases in the ratings agencies over the past few years was driving by their structured finance departments packaging these things and not their actual ratings and analysis business.
I usually carry multiple memory cards and I take thousands of pictures while traveling. I keep one with the camera because thats where they expect to find it and carry the rest in my pocket. I travel internationally a few times a year and have only had customs ask to see the pics on the cam once when I was returning to the US from Thailand. I just flipped on the cam and scrolled through the pics quick and was on my way.
Hmmm, you get to keep the drive if you win which also means you get to keep any data recovered. If it's filled with pirated music that could add up to a lot of money at $750 per track.
And the Democrats, liberals, and progressives get offended when they are called elitist. You want to permanently ban someone from participating in democracy because you don't agree with their views. That attitude is very dangerous viewpoint my friend.
Things must of changed since I was in school. I went to a private Catholic school in the 70's and 80's and we learned about the theory of evolution in biology class. As far as I can recall creationism as an alternate view was never discussed...not even in the religion themed classes. When I hit public school we didn't discuss creationism there either but the quality of education sucked compared to private school.
But, the problem with the schools is not just creationism vs. the theory of evolution is that the public school system in the US has become a petri dish for every new/old fad to be tested. Over the past 20 years schools have become more about social engineering (either left or right leaning) and less about education and critical thinking.
A paved road is not just a cheap and visible hand out to the rural poor. It's a necessity....Thailand has a monsoon season and unpaved roads in the rural areas turn to deep muddy trails. It may seem like cheap flash to you but to the rural Thai it's not.
Vipassana or insight meditation is what you are looking for.
Unfortunately I can't mod in my own thread but I would give you a +1 Insightful. I hadn't thought of that.

I've always wanted to create an army of monkeys bent on global domination and I am sure I am not the only one.
poor guy doesn't even rate the whole bag...just the nozzle. Is that better or worse? I kinda think it's better.

Yes, to get experience
Lie on your resume...but you better be able to keep the job once you have it.

The story states that "Tennessee university college student and son of state democratic representative Mike Kernell."
Same here, I was also worried he was going to spill some merlot on my carpet.
On another note, if the astronauts don't leave the confines of their ship, and merely evacuate all the air, is that really a "space walk"?
No, it's called a chinese fire drill...
I completely agree. I was just pointing at that some people adhere to global warming theories as religiously as other adhere to creationism.
Simple, two questionable theories being taught and both supported by zealots who don't refuse to accept alternative points of view.

Does man made global warming as espoused by the hot earthers belong in science class or philosophy class?

good thing they can't change their terms of servitude anytime they want.
