That is escape velocity - meaning fly away and don't come back velocity. LEO orbital speed is around 8000 m/s which is rather slower. Rail guns just might get there one day.
Hmm, he seems to be seriously exaggerating the threat. Network attacks are very easy to defend against and the damage is negligible compared to a real military attack. So this is plain stupid.
Of course. If the planet was hot and cooled down, then the surface water would sink into the rock and eventually freeze.
On Mars, Mercury and the Moon, the water has sunk into the rock long ago. Mars still has liquid water lower down under the surface and a few salty springs. On earth, the hot core keeps it circulating to the surface. On Venus, the planet is so hot, that all the water is in the atmosphere and most has boiled away. On Mercury, the sun boiled all the water off long ago.
That is pretty much how I treat all my servers: Install what I need and leave it alone.
Most problems are caused by finger trouble, so the first thing I disable on a Linux system is the Auto-Update ^WScrewup system. A Linux machine can run for 3 to 7 years non stop till the hardware fails.
AV on a UNIX machine is a bad idea in more ways than one.
By definition, AV programs go about deleting files. Obviously this can corrupt a system. So the risk of incurring virus damage must significantly outweigh the risk of incurring antivirus damage. On any UNIX system, it it is still best not to have AV.
Yup, as more businesses install Linux desktops it will become more widespread in that market segment. It will be a slow process, but each time MS stumbles, Linux will be there.
Howdy,
The only way to secure it is with an Air Gap. A PC with a CDROM drive as the final "non-connection" to the internet.
The problem with that is that the vendor will not like it, since they like to keep their grubby fingers inside your system remotely, so that they can see what you are doing and upload fixes easily. The last thing they want to deal with is a air gap CDROM.

Pretty soon US crops will be destroyed by hordes of zombies and viruses and millions of starving Americans will flee to Mexico...
If Google drops the Caps Lock, then they will likely get sued by some accessibility freak, the War Amps or a veteran's organization.
Just a minor hiccup there: How are you going to get all Aussie rednecks to browse the same internet pages at the same time?

All my data is already encrypted you insensitive clod!
I don't see any innovation here and OpenDNS is already doing it too.

Yeah, one would think that a true geek like Peter would know about OpenNIC, or at the very least google before trying to start something new.
Damn, at least it is better than both Spam Radio and Vuvuzela Radio.
OSRMT seems to work. Anybody actually using it?
American geeks will have to get more innovative with their language or face extinction.
Relax dude, these complicated new fangled horseless carriages also won't ever succeed...
Any browser that doesn't support Adblock is quite useless.
The obvious solution is to put an ARM processor in the FPGA.
Would it not be better to teach the African kids not to chew on discarded cell phones?
It will work because Estonia is so small, that everybody will still use Euros on the street, which they can easily obtain from neighbouring countries.
Bah, I still use RCS for single person projects and for versioning the configuration files in /etc. It is perfect for that.

Uhmm, maybe Sophos should invest in security training of their staff before they start selling supposed security products.

So MS can reduce the cost of the device in version 2 by dropping half the sensors?
Or a WiFi to serial adaptor: http://www.gridconnect.com/wi232.html#TB_inline?height=600&width=550&inlineId=eyInsets&modal=false Look Steve! No wires!
