I have taken this stance, and I *nearly* got the privledge to drive to my assignment to work... paid milage and all, but my boss wanted me there NOW, not in a day. Seriously though, my personal cash is NEVER going into the hands of the airlines ever again.
Company is expensing everything, and if anything vital is broken on the trip - company is paying for it.
Now we go from management that acts like robots, to robots that... well, you get the idea.
We don't need this kind of heavy-handed management, we need more people who can manage and work with their company's talent - just not tell them to move around, and generally act like robots.
I'd imagine that some chains WILL adopt this technology, but people will not take it well to be ordered around, hired and fired, and generally live their lives around the whims of some computer program.
Management is more than telling people what to do, and when to do it - you need to act as a leader as well as a stablizing force in the workplace. A PC running this slave-driver software does neither.
So....it's a sign of impending terrorism to decide to pay down your debt? Smooth move, guys. Wouldn't suicide terrorists get a card, and max it out - knowing that they will never have to pay it off?
You can have all the creativity you want - but without proper leadership, all that effort and talent goes wasted. I have a few creative friends that have all these wonderful ideas - but they have no idea on the concepts of project planning or management of resources. Needless to say, their killer applications are still brain children - and not actually out here where the rest of us can use them.
I did it anyway - perhaps if they have logging on these kinds of errors turned on on their end - they will see thousands of those - and STOP THIS! If not, it feels good - like hitting the down thumb button on the Tivo when it asks you to 'Thumb Up' for more information or to record - before you delete their bots permenantly
Your second one there is correct - I just remember the diatribe the 'Inexpensive' part gave a teacher of mine - mostly due to the fact that the expense of the disks had nothing to do with the actual make up of why you'd make a bunch of them perform as one larger one with better data security than is possible in a single drive.
It depends - does it have that arrogant SOB Gasse running things? If it does - it's doomed. If not, perhaps they will stand a chance. With Apple now moving to Intel hardware - there is a better chance of BeOS finding it's way onto that hardware.
Having used an older version - it was definitely unique and ahead of it's time. That being said, it will have to have changed a great deal between when I saw it last, and it's next incarnation, otherwise - the current crop of Mac OS X and Windows XP / Vista already does what BeOS did.
...because we have snivling bio-ethics people who cry about 'playing god' when these same morons get the sniffles, they want the most powerful drugs in existance to not only kill their bug - but to blow it's ass to mars...
The problem with this device, as I remember looking at it at the local shop, was that it was an answer to a problem no one had.
If I want a game system that's pocket portable, I will play with my PSP (better library of games, better gaming platform).
If I want a PDA, I will use my HP hx4705 (VGA screen, better support by 3rd party programmers, better power management).
The other features just sucked. It was slow, and it was 'campy' in design. I know - it's hard to come up with something professional and fun to use in a gaming environment. Just because it can/would have been able to run Linux doesn't make it the pancea of the mobile product world. Sorry, but it's true.
While I definately have to geek a little on this and applaud the work of people to create micro vehicles... I have to wonder the usefulness of cockroaches... I mean, isn't there enough things to research - without having to break out the need for transportation for house vermin?
But from the purely technical aspects of it - it's amazing... a trackball driven vehicle, designed for cockroaches. A for creativity.... C- for relativity...

FreeBSD 5.4 Review
·
· Score: 3, Insightful
Real advice here: don't be a ding-dong and use a test-grade OS for a production-grade job. FreeBSD 4.x is production grade, and it has served me well for YEARS of uptime, no matter the tinkering I do to it.
As a subscriber to Sirius sat. radio AND an owner of Apple machines, I like the idea of being able to hear my favorite sat. radio stations on my iPod. Hopefully, the route they take will finally make that an affordable reality.
First, they want you to pay for the service. They will consider free usage occasionally, but take it from someone who has submitted five (5) applications for that kind of consideration - and have been flat out ignored - they are not a valid solution anymore, and are just looking to make money with the least amount of effort.
There's that nice and vague word - harmful. Who gets to decide what's harmful? Their parents? The head of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals? The local Nazi political party? The Parent Teacher Association? The local DFL?
No thanks - I want to be able to have unfettered access - and just teach my OWN kids where they don't want to go. It's called PARENTING!
Just what we need... More heavy-handed tactics from Microsoft. Some of us have not entirely had the time to evaluate all of the applications we use everyday to see if SP2 kills them. Some vendors have NOT released patches to make their products work with SP2, and some vendors just don't care...
So, if we didn't already have SP2 - we're getting it, like it or not - ready or not. Way to chicken-choke your customers there, Bill.
In a way, it's opened up the field of diagnostic medicine - as many of these functions require complex tests now. if technology can boil down the plethora of tests into a stick-it-on-and-read type instrument, then the standard level of healthcare will rise.
Will it lower costs? Only time, and the health insurance companies will be able to answer that one...
Write by hand, call, try to make appointments to speak to your congress critter in person - make an utter and complete ASS of yourself to get the point across. Basically, if they cannot ever get rid of you - then they will have no choice but to listen to you.
A good manager is BOTH a leader and a manager. Too many managers are piss-poor leaders, and barely passable managers. Partly the reason I decided that I wanted to have more control of my destiny, and move from the front lines to more of the managerial roles.
Possessing a Masters in Business Administration is not the end all be all of the world. There are a lot of people who have this degree - but could not manage their way out of a wet paper bag. What business truely wants, and needs are managers who are creative, intelligent, resourceful, unorthodox - not just people who have the book learning.
Yeah, you can make a lot of money having this degree - but unless your passion is management, it's a waste of time - and talent.
If he can pull it off - hats off to him... If not, then it will be a failure like almost every other video-game based movie that has been producted my Nuttyw.....errr Hollywood.
I watched this unroll when I saw them lead my grandmother off at the airport to descretely strip search her - she is a lady who is afriad of flying anyway, and they had two guys with M16s behind her - as if she was the biggest danger in all of the airport.
Your right - fuck that - I drive. There are huge parts of this country that I have never seen, but are SURE to get my patronage now. Only way I will EVER fly is if it's Charter or paid for by my employer up front. They are not getting any more of my money - ever.

There is a difference between the two nowadays?

I thought Monday was Patch Your Microsoft Server days... SAMBA is allowed Thursday, or was that...Wednesday...? I forget....
Ummm, check the obvious - did you disable something in the kernel config that it says for you not to do?
Is your swap at least 1.5x the size of your physical memory?
FreeBSD just doesn't go into rebooting fits unless you really screw something up (either accidentally or intentionally)
