That's exactly what I just went through. My parents have a lot of trouble using the computer. My mother is scared of it, and my father is oblivious to what he's doing. My father seems to manage every couple of weeks to get the thing infested with malware, and I got fed up with the trickiness of malware being able to defeat adaware and the like, so I tried to switch them to ubuntu.
It didn't take. I think the biggest factor is simply that people hate change. It's not a money issue, it's not a which is better issue, it's the average web-surfer.doc writing user doesn't want to change. Even though firefox runs the same, the fact that it looks different than what they're used to scares the types of users like my parents away.
That's exactly correct. As an avid viewer of the Colbert Report and Daily Show, I can think of numerous times they have used clips from YouTube. Also, they never credited YouTube anywhere during Stephen Colbert's Green Screen Challenge.
Viacom would be much better off working with YouTube to create a new way for media companies to utilize YouTube for everyone's best interests. Why does the media not understand technology?
the episode is when George is engaged to Susan. They were talking about baby names with her pregnant friends, George said he would name his first born "Seven," becuase it's the perfect name. It's completely original and unique, and it has a nice ring to it.
Is there someone at Microsoft who has watched too much Seinfeld? Or are they just making a tribute to Mickey Mantle?
why would anybody intentionally subject themselves to an OS like this? Lets see...
1. Buy Vista ($$$)
2. Buy screaming fast new hardware-- just to make it usable.
3. Buy Antivirus software ($$$)
4. Spend most of your time at your computer servicing the OS (virus scans, spyware scans, updates, security patches, et al)..
5. worth it?
You forgot "7. Profit"
12 ozs is the size of a can of soda in the usa. So basically they're telling us how much caffeine per can of beverage. I'm sure the only measures they have of caffeine is in mg and it wouldn't make sense to convert it to metric. They're catering to those of us in the states.
It may not be my all time favorite game, but I think the first Super Mario Bros. game was probably the most important game in video gaming history. It is the catalyst for everything that has happened since. I grew up in that generation, born in the 80s. It seems like if there's one game EVERYONE has played, regardless of age, gender, etc, it's SMB -- I think that is a clear indicator of its deserving the top rank -- and the game ISN'T EVEN ON THE LIST! The first three aren't on the list at all. Unless I'm blind
On another note, I'm interested to see how people rate the "goodness" of the mario games. I like World, 3, 1, 64, 2, sunshine. What are other peoples thoughts?
Maybe this will get modded slightly off topic, but I see a relevant segue to this discussion. I'm a Connectican, and I've noticed a lot in the news lately about Richard Blumenthal standing up for consumers in Connecticut. Do any other Connecticut residents notice this? He is currently suing the federal government over No Child Left Behind, and has been making a good effort to fight unfair business practices. I'm not here to be a spokesperson or anything, I've just really been noticing his name a lot in the news here lately.
Do people in other states find that their attorneys general are as involved?
I think possibly yes. If you ever watch a baseball game on tv, usually some time during the broadcast they will say "this broadcast is copyright of any retransmissions or accounts and descriptions of this game may not be disseminated without the express written consent of and major league baseball"
IANAL, but to me that seems that you can't do any kind of reporting on play by play of the game, giving "descriptions" of what happens in it, without the consent of the team and the sport organization, in my example MLB, in the story NCAA.
As other people have said, the NCAA owns the rights to that game and can choose who is allowed to report it to the public. The NCAA is getting advertising revenue from TV and/or Radio broadcast of the game, and is well within their rights to keep someone from circumventing the licensed accounts of the game.
I've played around with sound engineering and recording a decent amount, and the problem here is that if you just blanketly increase the sound like that it can distort, and if loud peaks in dynamics are already at or near the max, then just increasing the volume of the track will cause it to clip, or distort at those points. It's annoying, especially when I record myself and want to put it on my ipod with other stuff, because when my recording comes on... I need to turn the volume up.
Did anyone ever notice that Xandros sounds very similar to Xanatos, the last name of the villain from the television cartoon series, Gargoyles? I'm not sure how I feel about that.
I was watching something on discovery health a few months ago and they were talking about the F3. What they showed was, if you close the lid then flush, the next time you open the lid all that same stuff explodes all over you anyway. So, lid open or lid closed, you still get bathed in the nasty microbes.
Enjoy.
I'm pretty sure AM doesn't allow for stereo sound. AM is mono only.An FM signal actually sends a couple carrier waves out within the frequency range, which is why there is stereo sound. AM only sends the one carrier wave, and sound is mono. That's why the transmitters only use FM
Freddy vs. Jason, Duh!

Stephen Hawking already said this, as noted here slashdot.org
Well.... is this rat civilization made up of moon rats? That I could see.
Spaceballs? There goes the planet.
Well then, I guess we can adopt the old 7-Up slogan, with different voice inflection. Make "Seven"? Up Yours!
Yes, this is exactly what I was about to post.

It's not entrapment? But isn't it sort of malware/spyware? and isn't that still illegal?

yes. is missing a subject. At least didn't hang a preposition if.
There's your problem. You want a pipe, but the internet isn't made of pipes, it's made of tubes.
So... I'm not a mathematician... but isn't 16% of 0, 0?

Yes, you are. Peanuts and Crackerjacks. Then all of this makes sense.
8) ????
9) Profit
I like that right now both of our simpsons references are next to each other on the board. that makes me smile.
Then will we need to deal with Primate Racism?? I think the Simpsons discussed this
I hate every ape I see from chimpan A to chimpanzee.
