The plot outline from IMDB (unedited, though it pained me): Computer hacker Will Farmer (Lanter) engages a goverment super-computer named Ripley in an online terrorist-attack simulation game. Little does Farmer know that Ripley has been designed to appeal to potential terrorists, and certain glitches have turned made him become paranoid.
So, this kid plays Counter-Strike against some bots? He's in de_dust, plants the bomb and starts thinking, "gee..terrorism sure is a bad thing, and by playing this game I'm almost condoning it. I must have been born to be a terr'ist. Better go turn myself in now...[logs off]"?
The point isn't that "everyone's the equivalent of a dev team member." The point is that there is reusable code in development that anyone can take and make their own MMORPG with (using their own server). And perhaps, if the developers want, the community can contribute code.
Must we do this every time someone uses the phrase "begs the question"?
"More recently, "begs the question" has been used as a synonym for "invites the question" or "raises the question", or to indicate that "the question really ought to be addressed". In this usage, "the question" is stated in the next phrase." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Begging_the_question #Modern_usage)
I agree. However, Freenet has a much smaller userbase. If they ever make the actual pages load reasonably fast (the speed of Frost is fine at this point) and get a userbase as big as usenet, then it will be better.
Maybe I just wasn't as well-informed back in '99-'00, but I don't recall much talk about online plans during the launches. I mean, ChuChu Rocket and PSO were big deals for the DC, but I don't recall the PS2 boasting superior online play right out of the gate...
There was already a wave of FB spam...that may still be going on. It's mostly in those "omgz this grup is huuuge! 100,000,000 awesome beer" groups, though, so I don't see it much. Also, they've got "sponsored" news feed items now.
Facebook is starting to degenerate into myspace parte deux.
Oh, no! Slashdot caught whatever virus the voting machines have! Whenever anyone goes to type in a meaningful tag like "voting" or "diebold" or something like that, it always comes out as "itsatrap".
I've usually got 5 or 6 (8 at most) windows open, spread through 4 virtual desktops.
Browser, file manager, console (though yakuake: http://yakuake.uv.ro/ has alleviated that need), IM stuff, a game of tetris, and maybe email.
Once you are a public figure (or 'celebrity', I guess) you give up certain privacy rights. You don't see Dubya suing SNL for using his likeness, do you?
I hope that (a) future versions/expansions to Civ aren't Steam exclusive and (b) no games are Steam exclusive. As you can probably tell, I am not a big fan of Steam.
I prefer buying retail and patching via ftp downloads, thank you very much. Steam is yet another background process to cause problems on my computer. I'm not sure how it is now, but it caused many a headache back when I used to play HL2 and CS:S.

Sounds like a wonderful movie.

I hate to break it to you, but: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/4432415.
So these associations basically just signed the death warrants of hundreds of people?
Who has the money and interest to keep their own personal [MUD/Website/other internet service] running, and who will use it?
Or, more to the point, who has the money and interest to keep their own Operating System running and in development, and who will use it?
Hobbyists will benefit, of course, but so will the community at large. It can never hurt to have code from a tested engine floating around.

I haven't personally tried one, but according to third-party testimonial they get the job done quite well.

Are you imploring us to imagine a Beowulf cluster of PS3s? Intriguing...

I'd go insane if I didn't sleep much/at all. I love relaxing and drifting off for 6-10 hours every day.
Either way, I can't imagine this is too healthy for humans in the long run.
I, for one, welcome our new uber-1337, w00tz-making overlords.
Sorry.
I agree wholeheartedly. It's so simple to use, but gives so much information.
That comment was off-topic!
That being said, you just introduced me to my new favorite website.
May I direct you to http://links.sourceforge.net/ ?
There's also a links2 that has a graphical mode. I don't have a link nor do I know if searchmash works in it.

What he actually meant to say was that it won't need any antivirus...for the first 10 minutes. That's almost a two-fold increase from XP!

If you read the link in your linked article, you'll see that he wasn't banned for running in WINE; he was banned for "unattended play".

That would be SO COOL. I don't play second life right now, but I totally would if someone did that.
I'm not tired of his crazy antics. They are a constant stream of entertainment. Watching him is practically better than playing video games!
