    Ok, what about the people that started off with win98 or winme and then use pirated copies of win2k or xp, what about those rotten bastards??? Do we mention them, no.

    The people who continue to use windows are those who have not tried a version of linux designed for their specific user level. Bold statement yes, but since that seems to be going around...

    If your system is a dell also, you may have a better time of it starting over, wipe the os, and start afresh, DO NOT USE the dell software, just use the drivers. What video card are you using? Get the drivers from the card oem and not dell etc.

    I have found that a fresh install on a dell box with brand new up-to date drivers is faster, and less of a pig. I have an HP Vectra and I did the same thing. The oems attempt to give you "the best experience" for your computer not the fastest/computer.

    Then of course there is the lemon rule. :)

    State Parks - they use Novell Groupwise and earlier this year were contemplating moving to MS Exchange; Since the Novell/SuSE deal I have been waiting for them to make the OSS move but so far no go. A lot of the IT staff are MCSE factory drones that had to "learn this Novell thing". They are hampered by spyware and caught by virii now and then.

    If Novell could make embed OOO into their groupware, that would be the ticket.

    I gotta say, he's correct on this. I have an old k6-2 350mhz laptop maxed out with a wopping 192mb of ram, and I'm running slack 9.1 with kde and it works fine. No lag in apps.

    If I need to install on anything smaller I use BeOS, got it and the office suite for $10 at fryes, and firefox runs on BE :) Everything works fast on BE, right AJ?

    Well, having purchased ver. 1 (and since downloaded the second version, but not installed said download), Version 1 was essentially SuSE 8.2 with Gnome desktop, it was clunky and did not like my old laptop AMD K62-350 laptop, and purple theme. It was ok, but, it was SuSE 8.2, having already been using OO, Star-Office is no big deal, it was nicely put together but I like my KDE and kde tools. Having used MDK10 with 2.6 kernel on same laptop, it was a big letdown. My guess is that ver.2 is SuSE 9. Maybe I will take the time to load it, maybe I will just stick with Knoppix 3.4, or Xandros 2 biz. :)

    They do a good job of incorporating updates; fast user switching; and other tools into an easy to use and familiar format. They are doing what Linspire is doing but they are shooting for the corp desktop. They utelized the Corel Linux distros windows networking incorporation (i did love that about that distro, 20 min. install and cruise your windows network like you were a windows machine).

    A debian corporate desktop, why not? Soon many Debiates will be proliferating all over... :)

    Actually, a "new" distro would not be out of the question, but a rehash of an already existing one, other than a bootCD-OS is just folly.

    how do you think M$ made M$ office the number one office product, they made it easy to copy and install without any checking of licensing.

    Doom, Wolfenstein, Heretic, Quake, all became the most popular because a) they were fun and b) you could download and install it and not have to worry about squat. Games that suck, suck, and should die off.
