Complacent consumerism. "Hey, it's always been this way so they [service providers] must not be able to have 99.9% uptime. If they had the capability, they sure would provide it to us, their customers."
Seriously. I just can't imagine that this could possibly work better than keyboard/mouse setup.
In Crysis, for example, there is so much input/output between switching weapons, suit settings, reload, not to metion run-of-the-mill aiming and movement. There's just no way without even a minor component like some sort of eye motion scan.
If it works well, I'll be the first to happily call myself an unbelieving douche and will post naked pictures of me playing games with it. Not that anyone wants to see that. I'm just saying.
And can we also just clear up the fact that even if this was in front of a jury, the JUDGE would decide if this was protected or not. The jury only finds facts. The judge finds points of law.
I completely agree. I certainly could have gotten an equally powerful laptop for less $ but I chose to get a Mac based on style and well, I just like it. We can leave all OS discussions out, but brand loyalty and especially design drive sales, especially when we're talking about a portable machine that will be seen by the public. You gotta look cool at the coffee shop right?
If I had mod points and had not already posted to this article, I would have definitely given you a funny mod. For some reason your comment seriously cracked me up.
Haha I guess it "came out" that way, but it wasn't my intent. Mainly I was just trying to show that his game had such an impact that I still play it 20 years later.
that the creator of one of the greatest video games in history (played it on the throne this morning on my cell phone) didn't get shit for his invention. We can blame Soviet communism for that one.
However, he shouldn't shit all over one of the greatest software concepts in history. Built a website, (not from the toilet or on my cell phone) using open source this morning.
... that this will enable scientists to make a corn strain that will eliminate the "phantom" corn that mysteriously shows up in my poop when I have no recollection of eating any.
Correction. The patent system is self funded through filing fees. The real problem is that Congress is actually the taking of PTO funds to support other non-patent endeavors.
As a consequence, examiners get burned out because of increased workload and the inability to become real subject-matter experts, and there's your lack of experience in examiners.
I have three friends with scientific backgrounds who graduated law school in 2006-5 who immediately took jobs at the PTO. As of now, none are still working there, citing the above reasons.
True, most horror movies would have to skip that scene with this technology in place... sure wouldn't be too tense
Yeah perhaps I didn't think that one through completely, but I'm just not comfortable with security measures being implemented or disengaged simply by proximity.
Speaking of your distraction scenario, and clearly because I read too much/., I had a vision of all TVs and computer screens splashing goatse on the would-be evildoer. Something tells me that would at least confuse most anybody's plans.
But I can imagine that you might not always want to have your front door unlocked whenever you're near and I imagine it might be a pain in the ass to get out the Touch and disable it if there were some sort of emergency that required your door being locked.
That goatse post in this context was one of the funniest things I've ever seen on/. I was laughing my ass off to the point that my roommate in the other room asked if I was alright.
It's great to finally see the goatse posting guy get a +5 funny mod.
... gone Ballmer on their asses, dancing and jumping around to get them fired up. They would have had the motivation and fire to get the product out months earlier.

As a loyal Firefox user, I'd LOVE to see a mobile version if it can compete with the speed of Opera.
The online porn experience would be greatly simplified.

DNA structure deduced from crystallography, now crystals formed in DNA lattice. Kind of fun how that worked out.
I wouldn't worry about it. As long as you're hating on any sort of religion, especially Christianity, you automatically get +5 insightful!

All I know is that if I were to get a porportionate share of 160Mbps, say even half, I'd be one happy little internet user...
