Well, first up, you don't have to patch it. (tel lsteam to not update it) you can thus still paly on LANs, and servers that have not updated.
next up is the fact that some one will disable this rather quickly.
This is going to work in 1 of 2 ways: 1) hard code the numbers into a patch released each day/week/hour/whatever. 2) Stream the data from a central server.
If it is option 1 then you just use any of the Admin Mod/what ever the other server mod utils are plugins that lets you set prices. (Wow that was hard)
Option 2? I am willing to bet that some one will come up with a way to block the connection, or to simply over ride the prices with a new server side plug in. (how about pointing the attempts to get the "new" prices to another server that ismply feeds it back the old prices?)
Remember, the HL Community is one of the most mod hapy communities out there.
well, obviously you want to kill your father and marry your mother
Actualy, you are 100% correct in my mind (I am gona ignore the sex comments, and mass-orgies as exersize does not fit our socity).
I personaly HATE gyms. I can't stand treadmills, bikes, weights, or anytihng like that. Those cardio classes are a little bit better, but you are generaly just doing the same thing each week, over and over (fun, aint it?).
Personaly I practice martial arts for exersize. It has nothing to do with a desire to be able to defend my self, or hurt people, it is simply more interesting. Yes, generaly we warm up with your standard exersizes (sit ups, pushups, leg lifts, etc etc). However after that we start an honestly interesting cardio work out. Of course the exersize level varies from class to class, but even that is a nice piece (I am not always just blasting kicks into a bag, sometimes we will work on balance drill and games, or a varriety of things).
If you want to get kids to exersize by playing DDR or some such, more power to you.
The Xbox is superior to the PS2 in every way, but it still sells FAR less than the PS2.
Exept games.
The XBox had awsome sports games and racing games and a few (I can think of about 6-7) REAL AAA titles (This is counting the games that are exclusive, or are heavily tied to the system).
The PS2 simply has more GOOD games then the XBox (I am not talking about games that are fun to play, I am talking about games that you know you are going to be playing again and again for a while).
XBox got it (mostly) Right by including online play for alot of their games. I say mostly b/c their subscription model sorta bites, it is kinda like having 2 ISPS, one that provides you with your connection, and the other that provides you with your "content" (think AOL for BB).
Sory, showing my age I guess. I am not actualy familiar with any of those events (heck, by the time I was old enough for video games the Atari was already a dinosaur).
I am actualy more familiar with the dotcom problems, where you had companies doing everything they could to make their customers LVOE them, then realizing that their buisness strategy would not turn a profit. I think of companies like Kosmo.com that just could not turn a profit when I tihnk of companies shooting themselfs in the foot.
Very true, I am now sorta tempted to work out just how much everything equates out to.
Generaly the budget I work with for when I upgrade/buy a new computer is $700-850 (generaly I am replacing just about everytihng exept optical drives, NIC, simple things like that).
Now to me, that is compleatly reasonable as I spend a large portion of my free time infront of my computer, and much of that is spent gameing (aka actualy taking advantage of the $$ spent on performance). It is also the main thing I am interested in (my hobey I guess you coudl call it, most people have that one thing they love doing and drop alot of their $$/free time into).
If the PS3 could some how take over that aspect of my life then I could see my self spending that type of money on it easily ($800 should buy me a PS3 a second controller and some games, right? then ontop of that it does other things also, right?).
I think I am seeing where Sony is coming from with their price point. They realy want this to be the center of your home life. No more time spent browsing/., looking up pr0n, downloading illegal movies/music/pr0n, talking on the phone, looking up pr0n, etc etc etc.
Looking back at wht I just wrote I realize that Sony is SoL if they tihnk people are going to actualy drop that much $$ on their system.
My beliefe? If sony can drop their price to around $350-400 they could very possibly come back and dominate the market (this is assuming they can keep the developers as well).
I think it is POSSIBLE for them to pull their act together. Are they going to do it? I have no clue. I have honestly never seen a company seemingly TRYING to hamstring themselfs before this.
They have tacken 2 steps i nthe proper directions: 1) The inclussion of HDMI on all PS3s is a very good idea in my mind. You now have a BluRay player for $500 that is not crippled. The expanded HD does not seem like that much of a wory. The loss of WiFi? Mehh. No card reader? I dono, does it really do much? (I honestly don't remember). Now they just need to make the price not suck AS much, right?
2) Droping the price of the core system in Japan.
They caught on that the Japanese didn't like the price, and mabey they will catch on that Americans (and the rest of the world) don't like $500 as a price point either.
Though, I will admit that $500 is almost an acceptable budget for a system to me, however that is b/c I am ussed to dropping $500+ when ever I upgrade my computer...
Note: I will never buy a PS3 untill the price comes down to around the $200 range. I will buy a Wii, but that is b/c it seems like it is honestly inovative. the PS3 is a replacement for my computer as a gaming platform? I will pass, you can pry my trackball from my cold dead hands.
If you read all of what I posted, I was simply answering a question, and NOT deffending it. I personaly despise the use of slurs on someone's ethnicity/race/religion/sexual orientation/dietary habbits/world views/etc etc etc. You are right, it does not matter if some one is actualy ussing the term in refference to those things or if they are just useing it as an all purpose derogitory. Admitedly it does not bother me personaly or emotionaly to see some one use these terms (even against my self, seeing how as I am a generic, white, middleclass, american male), as they are simply words, and words only have the power that we alow them to have. However on an intelectual side, it does bother me, I know that assaults on who you are can hurt, even when they are not really ment as that.
Now quit being so damn Thansal!
hehehe, I like that. I need to get people to start useing my nick as an insult/derogitory.
All you probably need are the make and model of what ever ATM you want the "master password" for. Punch that into google and you can probably find a operators manual rather quickly.
FTFA:
"If you get your hand on this manual, you can basically reconfigure the ATM if the default password was not changed. My guess is that most of these mini-bank terminals are sitting around with default passwords untouched,"
yup, peopel don't change the default password and are surprised when some one "hacks" their ATM/account/atmosphear shield.
If this was really the case, why do I see so many racial slurs being thrown around in an average game of Counterstrike, not to mention the nearly ubiquitous use of "gay" as a pejorative.
Simple realy.
It rarely actualy has any relation to sexual orientation anymore, especialy online and in other casual situations.
"Don't be so gay", "that was gay", etc etc, are rarely even attached to something that is stereotypicly a homosexual action. After all, I don't realy think gays are well known for spawn camping, using an AWP, or anytihng else related to most video games. Heck, many of the people that use the word as a deragatory have no problems with homosexuals.
The same goes for the ussage of most racial/ethnic slurs. They no longer mean anything more than "a bad person", much like your everyday swearing no longer has any real meaning behind it (yes, the words actualy have deffenitions, but they are not ussed).
Now, I am not saying that the use of these wrods is in any way right (I ussed to admin a server that had a zero tollerance policy, and I gladely banned many an asshat for ussing just these words). I am just pointing out that these words nolonger mean what you think they mean.
Disregard the labels and you see something that is honestly disturbing to me.
the LOWEST % was 39%, and that is assuming that every one reported acuratly (I call BS on that), and I am sorta scared.
I admit, I never finished college (let alone start grad work), however I never cheated on anything when I was there. When I had problems (and I did have alot of problems) I sought help, I didn't get some one to do the work for me.
Mabey If I had cheated like a large number of people aparently do, then I would have finished my College education.....
Meh I would rather be an honest drop out then a fraudulent grad.
well, there is step mania (DDR Clone, with the added advantage that there are millions of songs you can plug into it, both legal and illegal). Mix that up with a PS2(the system)->USB adapter and you can use any DDR pad you want with it.
Then there is also Frets on Fire, same idea as Guitar Hero, exept you use the keyboard. And with a PS2->USB adapter you could probably adapt a guitar hero controller to work with it.
If I remember correctly the PS2->USB Adapters basicly treat the PS2 controllers as a standard gamepad, wich alowes you to reasign the buttons to keys, so even if the games are not designed to work with the controller, you can make it work:D
Oh, and XBox pads (are there any? I am not familiar with the xbox) could simply be spliced into a standard USB cable as that is all they are.
Enjoy!
(oh and if you are honestly interested in playing with stepmania with a pad, I suggest you look around for directions on how to mount pads, and what the best ones are)
I was planning on writting a cute little piece about playing MMONotepad (IRC for those who don't get it), and how a couple Channels were my "third place" for a very long time. Specialy I am thinking of a time when I was moving around a bunch, and going through some RL problems that having that 3rd place, that was NOT linked to the rest of my life in any way REALLY helped.
There is a bit of a hackish meathod to force STEAM into offline mode.
Disable your network connection before starting STEAM. (Nifty, aint it?)
Personaly I am in your shoes and don't care about playing "online" when I am playing an offline game (HL2).
I am psyched about Psychonaughts (no pun intended) comming to STEAM, as I seem to remember that this one one of "THE GAMES"(tm) that was actualy worthwhile on the XBOX. So it is a PC port of a former xbox exlusive, and it is being published by one of the companies I am a raving fanboy for.
Wii + toys = $600 = "PS3 with nothing extra" = JUST the PS3
Re:before people complain
on
The Wii Takes NYC
·
· Score: 0, Redundant
ignoring tax
$250 = Wii + Wii Sports + Controller (And nunchuk I assume, though I have not seen anything yet) $60 = controller+Nunchuk #2 $240 = 4 games (assuming 3rd party keeps the $60 price point)
then $50 to spend on a classic controller (don't know price) and VC games, that gives you $600 for a PS3 (with no games)
however the reason why it is not being thought of as a gimik is because Nintendo is saying all the right things, and showing all the right stuff to make use think that they realy are aiming for this to be a core, usable piece of equip, not some gimick (ala power glove). Combine that with the development going on over the DS at the moment and you see a company that realy is devoting itself to producing, and encouraging, inovative ideas in gaming.
I have a friend who is an Electrical Engineer. Around the time of him graduating college (3 years now I think) he had a few interviews where a large part of it conssisted of him being given a schematic of something random, and them asking him what it was and what was wrong.

well, in the case of SW:G they didn't evovle into sometihng new and different. They changed from something rather unique, into the sameol' sameol'.
However, I do agree with you, Being different for the sake of being different is NOT good. However, being different becasue it is FUN (and not just gimmiky) is VERY important. As people have pointed out there are alot of interesting games out there, some make it, some don't.
For examples look at: Okami(SP?) Savage (fun game, not the first FPS/RTS hybrid, but fun, even if it tanked) Trauma Center (DS game)
