The in game combat lifesaver course is about 20 minutes long. The real course is 40 hours of classroom work and practical exercises. Having done both, the course in the game is based on the real thing, it just doesn't go into any detail
Good point, Family Guy, Simpsons and maybe The Office and Scrubs are the only shows that I might watch. Everything else seems to be either another reality show, some kind of prime time soap opera or another remake of a cop drama.
Lately I've even been skipping through the History Channel and checking out the public broadcast channels.
If it wasn't for sports I'd ditch my tv altogether.
As far as computer gaming, the only ones I can think of are the Civilization games.
I would also consider the Europa Universalis series and Victoria to be 'Highbrow'. Pretty much any game with a steep learning curve that's geared towards an educated mature player.
Of course, these kids would never log out, which meant you could walk up to just about any computer, launch safari, go to myspace and start editing the profile of whomever last used the computer
We did something similiar when I was in Kosovo. Hotornot was all the rage and 9 times out of 10 the last guy to use a computer in the internet center wouldn't log out. Change his preference from Heterosexual to Homosexual and the guy would check his account the next day and have 10 messages addressed to Cute Soldier Boy.
Sure, it's the company's network so they have the right to block whatever they want.
And I have the right to work at another company that has a more open internet connection.
I worked at one job where 6 months after I was hired they installed websense on the firewall. It took me and the other coders 45 min to get an anon proxy working. A week later they removed websense cause two thirds of the company was using proxies. Of course the net admins at this job weren't the sharpest knives in the drawer.
Or it could be that all of the people who used to shop at ebay finally got fed up being overcharged for shipping.
Waddya mean $24.95 to ship a PS2 game first class USPS?!?!?!?

Been back from Iraq for less than a year. We lived in steel containers with windows, a door and an AC unit cut into the sides. Our water tank was outside and non-potable so you didn't shower if you had a cut. In the winter the water was cold. In the summer it was too hot to shower after 7AM. About half the guys in my platoon had laptops. All but a few had iPods.
It's nice to be able to listen to some tunes or play some NCAA with the AC going full blast when it's 130F outside. You do it to try to bring back a feeling of normality. You know that in two hours you're going out for a patrol and you know that your sector is averaging an IED every other day but for that short time beforehand you can almost imagine that you're back home.
Is a $3000 plasma screen excessive? An entire DJ booth over the top? In my opinion yes, but to that soldier it's probably still not enough to make them feel like they were home.
One thing of note.... the PX who supplies most of the crap that soldiers buy is a monopoly. They stock that $3000 plasma that a buck private probably can't afford knowing that they'll take the money and run. In my opinion they were bigger cheats than the Haji shop on base that tried to sell you Rodex watches.
It took google's search engine a while to catch on and become the standard. Nearly everyone I know who uses a web based mail client has switched to gmail and google maps is the only place I go for directions.
It takes time for new software to catch on. In the meantime I think google is doing the right thing by putting a lot of new products out there. Maybe all of them won't catch on but it seems like the majority of them are building a following.
You're right though, I can't think of the last game besides Civ IV & Europa Universalis 2 that were as good as the old classics like Populous, X-Wing, Dungeon Keeper & Doom.
When you get to the part to enter in the full serial number of the battery try entering it in with all of the O's as zeros and then again with them all as OOOO's.
The first time I put in my battery's information it said I didn't need a replacement. Tried it again with letters instead of zeroes and lo and behold I need a replacement!
Does Carl realize that it's possible to crunch more than one project at a time with BOINC?
Right now I'm attached SETI, Einstein, Rosetta & LHC. It works on one for a bit and then will switch to another for a bit. And so what if SETI@home will never find anything, it's a cool looking screen saver!

Latest memo from the HR Dept:
The beatings will continue until morale improves
search for "lost" and there's a good paragraph on lost weapons.
Synergy Enhancers!
We would get them sent to us when I was deployed to Iraq. Most of them were of laughable quality but it was the only way to see a new release.
Yeah but planet balloon knot doesn't have a very scientific ring to it!
Or compare the M16 to the AK74
And don't forget about Defcon
Man I'm old....
I had an older digital camera and all of the pictures I took on New Years show up on the camera as 1/1/1900.
Here's a bunch more.
Duke Nukem

Why not, can't be worse than the same old shows that the networks are showing these days.
