  17. Re:There already is such an organization on Slashdot in Politics? · · Score: -1

No. Grassroots only deters the decision making process, prolongs it essentially by making it harder to make better decisions for many more.

I firmly believe in adding more choices for every thing, like the grassroots movements does: it adds one more option. It should remain at that. Due to the fact that it merely picks an angle of any argument and attempts to capitalize on that particular angle. Thus exposing a loophole. Whereas, by adding more informed and better individuals (radical thinkers) to the already existing status, we then eliminate the broad decision making needs placed upon all of us which inherently inhibits a better decision making process. The two meld together a stable, yet, fore-thinking entity.

  18. The medias fault. on Morals and Layoffs · · Score: -1

Unfortunately, about a year and a half ago, I was listening to NPR. A gentleman was speaking on the subject of technology. He was steadfastly stating that he felt that technology had rode to a grinding halt in any sort advancements that would wow the public or create any excitement in the technology marketplace. It was soon after this wave (or the beginning) of media downplay of technology did we begin to notice the move from technology stocks. We all know that many (MANY) people listen to NPR and other such news affiliated stations, be it TV or other. They who listen to these programs are directly influenced by what they hear and see. Yes, even the rich are completely impressionable. When the media launches a full scale mood swing on things such as technology, one can rest assured that the people are sure to follow where the finger points.

When this happened, I personally saw the landslide of failing dotcoms, network consulting agancies, and even hardware vendors. Now given the fact that I have a very skeptic, synical mindset towards just about every thing, I feel that we have no one to blame other that the media. When statements like some that I heard; ex: feeling as though technology had reached it's terminal plateau and we should not expect to see any MAJOR advancements or a rebirth for at least ten or more years... One can only think that some how sweeping statements like what this gentleman was making are the true culprits in our current state of layoffs, cutbacks, and cutforwards.
