Obligatory Joke
http://www.bash.org/?quote=835...
What do you mean the SQL daemon is down?!?
The joke is about Judge-Mental telling a newbie to stop using the , but the newbie thanks him for teaching how to type more easily. As I recall the punchline, Judge-Mental says "Phuck me!"
Wait: Late-breaking news. I found a copy at http://forums.markzdanielewski...
Khassaki> HI EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!!
Judge-Mental> try pressing the the Caps Lock key
Khassaki> O THANKS!!! ITS SO MUCH EASIER TO WRITE NOW!!!!!!!
Judge-Mental> fuck meYou notice that the newbie is a exclamation-point criminal?

Re: Use your real name, not a handle
If you're a heterosexual man and/or dislike sucking cocks then sucking them is indeed a bad thing. So no, no homophobia at all.
Anyway, he was referencing an all time bash.org favourite.

Re: You know....
Kind of amusing that iOS users have become the equivalent of AOLers given how snooty Apple users tend to be.
As much as Apple users try to deny it and claim superiority, Apple caters to the low knowledge user. There is very little difference between the typical iOS or Mac OS experience and the "child" modes of Android and Windows. If you want a device that treats you like a child, hides useful settings and locks you down to where you can only do what it wants when it wants with what it wants then Apple is for you. If you want to be able to use a device how you want while still being able to dumb it down when needed use basically anything else. Though to be fair, Windows 10 is moving in the wrong direction on that front as well.

Re:I know it's fun to make fun of Homeopathy
I'm reminded of an old IRC quote: The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
In principle, I like the idea, but the victims here are not the ones being stupid.

Modern society has made the world such an overwhelmingly safe place compared to earlier periods in human history that the universe has to find new ways to work in natural selection. It says homeopathic right on the box, and I would imagine that this was something the parents sought out and wanted to buy. So just let them remove themselves from the gene pool or just regulate who gets to be a parent because I have a feeling that single regulation would remove the need for a lot of other stuff. -

Re:My civil disobedience
He said, well this entire time I have been hacking into your machine and stealing all of your files and if you don't pay me, I will not let you have them back. I laughed and said, no you aren't to which he said, never underestimate the power of the common man. I told him, you are a common criminal and not that good of one and that lead to the tirade of swearing and he hung up!
Heh, that reminded me of this.

Re:Depends
P.S. I'm new to slashdot and I don't have much technical or scientific cred. What kind of ettiquette can I practice so I don't ruffle any feathers? Besides R'ingTFA. I've posted anonymously a few times and got downvoted in rather short order. I like being able to talk to people with experience in tech and science sectors, though.
Having an actual login will automatically give your posts higher default moderation than posting anonymously. Given that users are semi-randomly given the opportunity to moderate, and that users can set the default moderated-level of visible posts such that they can ignore posts below certain thresholds, posting a 1 with an account or at 2 with an account in excellent standing will mean that your posts are visible to more people and more moderators than anonymous posts at 0 or at -1.
For dealing with trolls, I find that if a troll comes out of left-field with something stupid and there's a hole in their argument, drive your metaphorical spear into that hole. Over on Bash.org there's an IRC chat log of someone attempting to disparage a straw-man by claiming to have caught the straw-man doing something; the person that built the straw-man is called-out by someone else pointing out that they too would have had to have been engaging in the same kind of behavior in order to have caught their straw man in the act. Example is here. Crude, but funny.
Otherwise, have a thick skin and don't worry about the trolls too much. Go back through your comments and reply to people that have replied to you so that it remains a discussion rather than simply a drive-by broadcast. -

Re:So was this...
I think you're quoting http://bash.org/?2832 "-Global- [Logon News - Dec 29 2001] Welcome to Evolnet! Where the men are men, the women are men, and the boys are fbi agents. but some of the men are really women. Enjoy!"

Re:Mangled IRC joke
http://bash.org/?835030 is what you're looking for.

Obligatory bash.org
That aside, just don't screw with things. You mention caps lock, which I don't use, but any change is likely to just screw with muscle memory and not have any practical benefit except as some symbolic gesture against caps lock. For example, see second gen X1 carbon which replaced caps lock with home and end keys.
There is also the troubling by the way mention of the right mouse button. For the love of god do not advocate screwing with the right mouse button. You don't often need it, but when you do, all the schemes that try to de-emphasize it's footprint really screw with you and again *nothing of value is gained*.

Aliens did it
(Brass) Yaku: It was hacked... by aliens!
(Brass) *gasp* They're invading the channel now!
(Yaku) are they the dick sucking kinda aliens?
(Yaku) or the brain eating ones?
(Brass) Yaku: Either way, I don't think you have anything to fear. -
Finally, the invention I've been looking for.
Interesting. It looks like the US military has not only invented, but also improved on the technology needed to stab someone in the face over the internet. This will be a boon for reasonable internet discussions everywhere!

Re:Not pointless...
Sounds like they pretty much did this. So there are two lessons for any cops are reading:
1) If you want to blow up someone's stuff, just go ahead and do it and find some BS you can arrest them for later.
2) If you want to really publicize someone getting arrested for some BS, you should blow up their stuff, too. -
