Re:It's all about the pentiums, baby!
Hehe, it still kicks arse. Don't forget Blue Man Group's commercials for P3s and P4s.
-
Blue?
Will Microsoft be using Blue Man Group to market it like Intel did for its Pentiums (3 and 4)?
-
Re:Wait, what?
No. They formed a musical art performance group called Blue Man Group
-
Re:Where's my pony?
Unobtanium is gotten from Big Blue Men not Little Green Men. (BTW, it comes from a group of Big Blue Men, not the Blue Man Group.)
-
Same with Blue Man Group
It reminds me of Blue Man Group's visual performance, with better music IMO. They use a lot of LEDs, lights, colors, special effects, etc.

BMG?
A Blue Man on

What the heck is BluRay?
One of the members of the Blue Man Group? -
The new logos...
... I believe these are the new logos from my Blue Man Group's forum. I was asking if the three famous blue men would be back for the new launch like in the past.

Blue Ash Man?
Is he from Blue Man Group or something? [grin]

Re:BlueTooth Ads?!?
I've beeing seeing lots of ads for products that whiten teeth lately, but but who in their right mind would want...oh wait, nevermind.
My guess would be either homosexuals or Mel Gibson.

Re:Oh Joy.
Another reply to your probably rhetorical question: Blue Man Group - The Complex.

Intel's TV advertisements/commercials!
Click here for a list of information, screen captures, video clips, etc. It also includes commercials with the Blue Man Group (P3 to P4)!

Eureka!
Maybe they can pin this on the blue man group?

Re:DVD-A is dead for more than just that
That is false for one simple reason, there are no releases on SACD or DVD-A that aren't also available in CD format. The sole selling point of SACD and DVD-A is the superior sound quality.
Actually, not true. With DVD-A you can make surround sound songs. The Blue Man Group released their first album "Audio" on both CD and DVD-A. The DVD-A version features surround sound mixes of all the songs. Fortunately, they made it double sided with the other side being a normal DVD. On the other side is a slideshow with music playing in surround sound. Their second album, The Complex doesn't yet have a DVD-A release, but they are working on it. If you bought the Complex Tour Live DVD, you get three preview tracks from the upcoming surround mix. So, DVD-A does have an advantage with surround sound, it isn't only improved sound quality. -
Re:Vegas
You often have an audience of geeks watching Blue Man Group at The Charles Playhouse in Boston. The performers are stranger, hands down
:-) -
Re:Vegas and Hoover Dam
I haven't been on the new tour as I went pre-9/11. Is it any good? Clearly it's not as detailed as the old Hard Hat Tour, but then again, they didn't close the dam entirely, either, or the terrorists would have won.
As to Lost Wages, that's a matter of personal taste. On the plus side, there are lots of shows to see, such as Blue Man Group, and Cirque du Soleil [flash required]
... provided you can get tickets. Le Cirque has two very different shows in town and they're booked far in advance. BMG isn't much better. Don't pay scalper prices! [please!] -

Re:Mmmmm Storage
There appears to be a lot of key companies in this "Blu-Ray" group. Is this anything like the Blue Man Group? Methinks Intel might not be too happy...
-
Re:PR Rating StupidityMhz might be a very poor buying consideration, but at least it's an objective number
The weight, volume, and color of the chip are also objective numbers...
;)Neither Intel's insistence on MHz, nor AMD's system are ideal. All the different benchmarks just add to the average buyer's confusion who ends up depending on jingles and the Blue Man Group in making decisions.
P.S., I don't have a solution.

Re:Good readIn the article, Ives says,
"The back of this thing looks better than the front of other guys' systems."
Okay okay okay. First, I want to know exactly how much time Ives spent studying the fronts and backs of "guys' systems" in order to feel confident making such a statement. At least now we know where so much of Apple's R&D money goes: adult DVD stores and Silly Valley dance clubs.Second, we now must realize where the design of the new iMac's base comes from: it's a buttock! That's right, a single buttcheek! Male, of course. Only Ives, with his extensive knowledge of male anatomy, could pull off such an amazing design.
Third, this explains the new iMac's color -- did you know that, originally, the new iMacs were blue? They were! Well, during the early stages of the design phase, Ives enjoyed taking two single-buttock iMacs, placing them back-to-back (forming a complete set of buttocks), and masturbating while imagining having sex with a member of Blue Man Group. One night, in a fit of sexual energy, he lubricated the iMac bases with thermal grease and started vigorously humping them, pretending that he was grinding against a Blue Man's ass. He was unable to control himself, and ejaculated all over one the iMacs... and when he recovered and started to clean up, he thought, "Wow, the new iMac looks really good covered in my white, sticky marinade of love!" He grabbed the iMac and ran down the hall to Steve's office, the iMac dripping thermal grease and cum all the way. "Steve, Steve!" he cried. "Look!" And Steve saw, and pissed himself, and it was good. So good that Steve and Ives made love in a puddle of urine on the floor. When they awoke the next morning, and walked out into the hall, and were amazed to discover that there had apparently been a fire in the building the night begore, a conflagration ignited by the heat of Jobs's and Ives's passion. But where the thermal grease and semen has dripped the day before, the floor was undamaged! "Jonathan, my lover," whispered Steve, "do you know what this means?" "Yes, Steve, I do. I means that we must have sex again." And they did, for they were so happy to discover that mixing semen and silver thermal grease creates a technically-advanced type of paint which allows heat to dissapate without harming metal or plastic. This magical mixture, called "heatcum," is what covers the new iMacs from "top" (heehee) to "bottom" (teeheehee).
What will those sick fucks at Apple "come" up with next?

Why AMD can't market the Duron processor
despite the fact that the Celeron is more than double the price of the equivalent Duron, Intel has a virtual monopoly on the sub-$1000 market, which makes me very seriously question AMD's marketing abilities.
Consumers probably think that "Duron" is a paint not a processor. Plus, AMD doesn't have the Blue Man Group doing cheesy commercials (QuickTime).

Problems and Suggestions
Curating a multimedia show is difficult. It tends to "day" rather quickly. Even if the project is burned to a CD which can last for 30 years, the platform it is built on is unlikely to be around in five years. Because of this, all of NYU Interactive Telecommunication Program thesis' are recorded to VHS. Sure, you lose a hell of a lot putting a digital project on video, but its better than losing everything.
A lot of multimedia work falls through the cracks. It disinterests both engineers and traditional artists. It also tends to be installation work. This means that the museum piece is not wrapped up in a form useful in your PC.
As for suggestions...
The Whitney Museum of American Art is featuring a show called BitStreams and Data Dynamics. This is one of the largest showings of multimedia art.
Blue Man Group is probably the only long running theatrical show heavily based around multimedia. Beyond the eye candy, it makes lots of commentary about the art world and the digital world. Oh yeah, they do those Intel commercials as well, but I always figure that they just confuse the average home viewer. : )
Explore NYU'S Interactive Telecommunication Program site. MIT's Media Lab and NYU's ITP are the two top programs in their field. The Media Lab does things because they can. NYU does projects on a much more human level.
Rhizome tends to be a center of net based art.And there's no way you can pass up the old standard - Understanding Media by Marshall McLuhan. While it was written well before "multimedia" its commentary on more traditional media is easily extrapolated to digital media.

Re:It might be the wrong kind of multimedia..
I second that. BMG has some really great multimedia presentations, which unfortunately are only available in the live version (New York, Boston, Chicago and Las Vegas). They do have a DVD available on their website, but it is meant for surround sound only (which would still not be bad) plus includes some photos and interviews. I haven't seen the video myself, so I can't comment on its possible effectiveness in your course (especially since to really experience it you'd have to have a surround sound auditorium of some sort)
-
It might be the wrong kind of multimedia..
But the Blue Man Group's shows are some of the best use of multiple media I've seen. They use video, scrolling LED message boards, video tape, backlighting, electronic music, public address systems, water baloons.. It's quite the experience. -
Re:You know you've been staring at the screen to lYou mean Intel's International Trio of Gay Blue Men? Yeah, they're pretty fucked up. My question is, how much acid do you have to do before they go away?

I do!
does anyone harbor any lingering thoughts that AMD is a second-class citizen in the chipmaking world?
AMD doesn't have the very cool Blue Man Group shilling for 'em.

Re:Let's recap.block all ifnringing materials from being searched for
Now answer me this: how can they tell it's "infringing?" Just because it's copyrighted doesn't mean it's being infringed upon. There's a possibility, yes, but... well, here's a ferinstance:
I bought Blue Man Group's album, Audio, last month. It plays fine on my portable CD player, but put it in the CD-ROM drive, and it misbehaves. I can't even rip it. I have a license to make fair use copies of it, so presumably, if I can find MP3s of this album, aren't I entitled to download them?
Similarly, the Beatles' White Album. I bought that on vinyl, and later on cassette. Am I really required to buy it AGAIN to legally download MP3s that other licenseholders have made?
Forget the technical problems for a sec, and just look at the legal presumption of guilt here.
I'm offended. I really am.

Re:Bad execution, not architecture
Also, if Intel really believed the P4 was its best chip, why are the colored guys on TV hyping the P3 like there's no tomorrow? (No, that's not a racist remark. If you've seen the ad, you know what I mean.)
Blue Man Group! They rule... very good people to represent a company like Intel....

Silly Blue Men?
Everything was great and I was on the edge of my seat until you said "silly blue men." In fact they are not silly but they are blue. They are called The Blue Man Group (can be seen in the upper right hand corner of the screen at the start of the commercial). They are a performance art team who not only do wacky things with pigments, but they play music as well The music during the commerical is actually them playing. They perform in Vegas, Boston, and New York City. Overall they are wonderful to watch and have produced some great CDs. Check them out: www.blueman.com

More on the BlueManGroup (Yes, it's OT... I know.)Okay, I'm not the first -- the AC got to it first, and quite correctly.
Still...
I saw the BlueManGroup in Boston a couple years back, the show was called "Tubes." It's still running. (It's no 'Cats', but this isn't Broadway, either!) If you've ever had fun whonking on a piece of PVC pipe for the noise it makes, these people are for you!
- Their website is at www.blueman.com
- You can hear demos of their custom-made (or custom-used...) instruments from their site
- They've just released a CD titled "AUDIO"
- They have regular performances in New York, Boston, Chicago and Las Vegas
- There's an article that appeared on CNN recently -- with some video
- ESPN's 'extreme' site EXPN hosts some realmedia clips of them performing (I recommend the Cap'n Crunch clip, it's good for a laugh.)
- There are 3 intel PIII commercials so far... you can get them here.
Know what? After thinking about it while writing this, I think taking on the 'Idea Box' would be right up their alley! Celebrity Death Match anyone?
