Britney Spears guide to semicondoctor physics
It may be old but this is pretty good.

Re:Google+ dead
I was gonna mod you but I couldn't decide between Funny and Flamebait.
Definitely an F either way lol.
Duuuuuuude... nerd chics are the hottest. Like Britney Spears when she's teaching semiconductor physics!!! http://britneyspears.ac/lasers.htm

Different Doping?
Are you making your own semiconductors?
I am curious if it is possible to use doping levels on the chips that would allow them to work at high temperatures while not necessarily working at room temperature.
Perhaps you could get with NASA. I bet they would need something similar for exploring Venus.
Britney Spears may be able to enlighten us on the subject. http://britneyspears.ac/lasers.htm -
Re:Good to hear.
At 5m/s, that's a lot of Celine Dion
Celine Dion I can listen to singing though not for days on end. On the other hand though Britany Spears, I don't think so. However maybe she can give lessons in semiconductor physics.

Other guides
I have always liked Britney Spears' guide to semiconductor physics.
I especially like the illustration on conduction and valence bands.

Akin to Britney's Guide to Semiconductor Physics
It's not only in the far east that such different subjects are sometimes juxtaposed for effect.
Don't forget our own utterly fantastic Britney Spears' Guide to Semiconductor Physics on this side of the world, which really deserves a medal. If a blend of pop culture and highly mathematical science raises a smile at the same time as presenting some serious physics, maybe the approach isn't as barmy as it seems.
Also remember that we do something similar in computing too, for instance in Head First Design Patterns and other books in the series, which present their material through silly little stories. A lot of people seem to like that approach.
There's more than one way to skin a cat, and that seems to apply to technical literature too.

Re:Dedicatory
It's more common than you'd think. For example, it is a little known fact that Ms Spears is an expert in semiconductor physics. And the president himself knows a few things about high energy physics.
-
Wait a minute
You mean Britney Spears doesn't actually know semiconductor physics? THIS IS AN OUTRAGE. I'M SUING.
-
Re:One name: Isaac Asimov
It's already been done! See Britney's guide to semiconductor physics.
-
Re:One name: Isaac Asimov
Clearly we should find a way for Britney Spears to popularize good science.
What, you mean like Britney Spears' Guide to Semiconductor Physics? -
Re:One name: Isaac AsimovClearly we should find a way for Britney Spears to popularize good science. Brilliant! Clearly you've not been keeping up with the proper literature
-
Re:One name: Isaac Asimov
Have you ever seen Britney Spears' Guide to Semiconductor Physics? A very clever teacher designed this site.
Quote:
It is a little known fact that Ms. Spears is an expert in semiconductor physics. Not content with just singing and acting, in the following pages, she will guide you in the fundamentals of the vital laser components that have made it possible for you to hear her super music in a digital format. -
Re:here's his real homepage(Britney Spears take note.)
I don't think Britney Spears plays chess. She knows a lot of semi-conductor physics,, though. -
Don't forget Britney Spears!

well how about this: Britney's Guide to Semiconductor Physics.

Neil Postman and Britney Spears
On the one hand, The brilliant media and cultural critic Neal Postman wrote -- and I'm summarizing several books here -- that we should pass a law that any time someone who isn't an expert in the field under discussion says anything about a subject, a big black banner should appear across the bottom of the screen, saying "THIS PERSON DOESN'T KNOW WHAT S/HE IS TALKING ABOUT."
On the *other* hand, Britney sure knows semiconductor physics. I point people at her explanation of VCSELs and how they work because it's way better than what I can crank out in a hurry. -
Re:Ask a scientist
If Brittany Spears can tell kids what's fashionable......
Like, for example the wonders of semiconductor physics!
-
Re:Wow
That site has nothing to do with ms. Britney Spears... read the story behind the site here, it does however have a lot to do with semiconductor physics.
-
Re:Made me think of RouterGod
That's nothing, Britney Spears is the queen of semiconductor physics!
-
Wow
50 posts and no mention of the granddaddy of all celebrity+science sites?

Models
The nuclear longevity, according to the models, is due to the closing of proton and neutron shells, which renders the particles stable against spontaneous fission
Wow, models doing science... cute!
Reminds me of Britney's Guide to Semiconductor Physics. -
Re:Leah?
I'd include Sophie Germaine[wikipedia.org] Germain was particularly interested in Joseph-Louis Lagrange's teachings and submitted papers and assignments under the pseudonym "Monsieur Le Blanc", a former student of Lagrange's. Lagrange was so impressed by the paper that he asked to meet Le Blanc, and Germain was forced to reveal her identity to him. Lagrange apparently considered her a talented mathematician and became her mentor. On a lighter note, how about Britney spears[britneyspears.ac]?
;) P.S. I don't post much at /.. Could someone tell me how to post a comment without replying to an earlier comment?(i.e. Reply to This). -
Re:Explains why Britney Spears...
No, you got it all wrong. Britney is an expert on semi-conductor physics.

Re:Defeat THIS piracy technique!
Re: Britney Spears...
A little off topic, I know, but it had to be said since you say she wasn't an engineer. She does have a rather handy guide to semiconductor physics (http://britneyspears.ac/lasers.htm) out there... -
Re:I can understand the hold
1. People fear that which they do not understand.
2. Nuclear Physics is hard* (apologies to Barbie(R))
3. People fear Nuclear Physics
Maybe we need a nuclear physics version of this.
Cheers

I don't know...
How many impressionable young children have been inspired to become semiconductor designers by the Britney Spears Guide to Semiconductor Physics?
-
Not that I'm any fan of Britney
but if more science was glamorized like this, I think you'd see more interest in it. I'm sure you could do a version with some appeal to the ladies as well.
-
Re:Am I the only one...
Is Britney Spears a rocket scientist?
No, but she is a semiconductor physicist... -
Re:A little ironic...
Britney is not fake, she is really smart person. Check out her guide to semiconductor physics, if you doubt her abilities. I actually read some of her work while studying for my semiconductor finals.

Re:Free Thinkers Declare War on the RIAA
As for Britany Spears... letting that knowledge do all the good it's capable of.
Some people might say that Britney Spears' music hasn't done any good, even that it's been harmful... but without it we wouldn't have Britney's Guide to Semiconductor Physics. So it's done at least SOME good. Chuckle.

Re:In the US, we have some problems...Anyway, it bothers me how few young people that I talk with have any desire what so ever to pursue careers in science and engineering.
Maybe this will help...

Very funny, but a rather obscure reference. -
Re:The Bank and The Pizza Parlor
Kind of like having a guide to semiconductor physics by Britney Spears?
-
Re:I searched for keywords britney spears and ...
My favorite illustration is the one they put in the Photonic Crystals section. Brilliant, that one.
-
Re:I searched for keywords britney spears and ...
My all-time favourite illustration from that site has always been the energy levels of the band structure, for varying wavevector...
Sometimes, it's fun to be a physics grad... -
Re:I searched for keywords britney spears and ...
A reference to the Britney Spears Guide To Semiconductor Physics?
It makes for an entertaining bibliography to a research project. -
Let’s be fair
Now seriously, let's be fair. While women may be naturally bad at math, there are other things they are good at, like semiconductor physics.
-
Britney Spear's guide to semiconductor physics
You've obviously haven't seen the Britney Spear's guide to Semiconductor Physics.
Here: http://britneyspears.ac/physics/basics/basics.htm
This shows how quantum physics can be fun when "dressed up". Well, I guess geeks just want to look at Britney's pictures anyway ~ -
Uhh, hello....
Why do we need rap music when we already have a pop princess explaining frickin' lasers to us?
-
Re:Been done 30 years ago
You're wrong.
Silicon is an indirect gap semiconductor . That means that the traditional methods of making light emitting devices (e.g. LEDs, the diode lasers in CD players - these things are based on compound semiconductors like GaAs and InGaAs) don't work in Si.
Previous integrated optics approaches have involved glomming III-V semiconductor lasers and photodetectors onto Si chips. This is unattractive from the engineering side for a number of reasons (cost, complexity, reliability).
Intel has figured out a way to make a Si laser based on Raman emission. The downside is that the Intel scheme still requires an external optical pump. An ideal scheme for integration would be an electrically pumped Si laser. This work is a necessary step on that road. -
