Information Society's 300bps 8,N,1
Lyrics. Discography. Buy album. Information Society's album "Peace & Love Inc." has a track "300bps 8,N,1" which is designed to be played into a modem. Original release date was October 1992, and I'm not sure if it was available on Vinyl or only on CD.

Not the first.
I have just here this record by Kissing The Pink. It was released in the mid 80s and I'm sure there are many other examples.

Why not?
Websites like Discogs already offer discographies and band information for almost every signed musician out there for free. eMusic could establish a longterm contract with Discogs to continue providing that data.....
Remember the old Audiogalaxy.com? They provided the "Other people who downloaded this also downloaded this..." -- that was the greatest feature of that site. I found ridiculous numbers of new bands/artists I probably would never have been exposed to.
Immediate speedy download won't be all that hard to do once the cash begins to flow. Or maybe they should find a way to use a BitTorrent type protocol to help balance their load and lower their overall costs.....
What he's asking for is not all that unrealistic.
Heck - I'll add another standard requirement as well: valid and proper ID3 tagging .......
I also believe that a company offering this as a service should start NOW before someone offers an illegal equivalent utilizing BitTorrent - almost like Suprnova.org

3000 Screaming Bloggers
As I read more about this tempest in a blogcup, for some reason the baseline to 10000 Screaming Faggots kept going through my head. I think I'm off to Soulseek for a quick download...

Re:*sigh*
[Borg] Definitely one of the most original sci-fi enemies ever.
They are just Cybermen in drag.the humanoid population of that planet perfected the science of cybernetics. They replaced their bodies with mechanical counterparts, and even altered the thought processes of their brains. Thus, the Cybermen were born. Ruthless and emotionless, the Cybermen began a campaign of conquest to rule the galaxy.
The Cybermen were originally humans, and the scientists of their home planet Mondas perfected cybernetics. They initially replaced only their limbs with metal and plastic, but they gradually progressed to the nervous system and finally the brain. The end product was the Cyberman, who were huge metal giants, devoid of emotion, only acted on logic, immensely strong and intent on conquest.
They even inspired Si Begg to produce possibly the world's greatest sci fi electro funk album, First Class Ticket To Telos . -
I used to listen to a lot of trance
Wow an Antiloop reference.
Any idea where that sample comes from? -

Good on you for mentioning the Boards of Canada. Here's a discography, just in case anybody ever gets down this far on the tree.

It's a Soul Thing.
Wow! Good posts all around. I must add more to the knowledge of House music and where to find some great definative house music.
Artists/Producers/Labels: Idjut boys, Paul Johnson(Real Chicago House), Anything from Naked Music or Panhandle. And that's the short list.
The real problem I have with Electronic Music is that to really get into it and find what you really like it costs a lot of money. If you only buy mix-tapes and complete CDs by DJ/Artists/Producers then you miss out on a great deal of their work. You have to buy records (yes vinyl) at a pace of a few every week to keep up with what you like and to stay on the look out for new and exciting stuff. Most people think that only DJs need to do this, but really if you get into the music enough it seems that this is really required. Oh well, off to the record store. -

link request & loose thoughts
There was this product awhile back that was kind of an integrated low-level sound synth and sequencer/drum machine for the normal, 4-color gameboy. It was only available in europe, and you could make these REALLY funky tiny little techno tunes on it. Very aphexy. Does anyone remember the name of this, or have a link?
I would probably have more fun with a sequel to that, than this... but that's just me. That being said, this soundpro thing is an absolutely amazing work of engineering. I mean, LOOK at that thing.. it's tiny, it has a 512 MB upper ceiling, it's mac-compatible, and it's CHEAP. And this part really impresses me:
Besides playing songs in the standard MP3 and Windows Media Audio formats, the SongPro device will also play a proprietary SongPro Audio, or SPA, format that will use the Game Boy's screen to display lyrics and pictures.
That makes me happy.. it's always cool when people try to push a device like the Game Boy to the limit of its abilities, rather than just saying "well, we have an mp3 player in it, that's impressive enough on its own, lets stop here". -_-
I wonder how hard it would be to create a gameboy version of Vib Ribbon and then stuff it inside the SongPro II along with the mp3 player? ^_^ Eh, that's probably pushing it.
That being said, I dunno. If you just want a handheld thingy that plays mp3s and games, i still say-- i've said this on slashdot before-- it might be worth a shot to try to hack the iPod to have a first-gen gameboy emulator on it :) I still have no idea if that's POSSIBLE, but by all accounts the iPod has an ARM chip, a 4-color lcd screen and some buttons. I'm not certain that reverse-engineering the iPod's firmware would be more difficult than designing a system that stores 512 MB of mp3s in the backslot of a Game Boy :) Is this relevant? Is this? Anyway, if you could get it to work, that would be way more expensive than gameboy+songpro, but a MUCH nicer form factor than this lumpy songpro thing :)

Obscure Modern Music
Seriously!
Try some Coil, Converter, Synapscape, Winterkalte, Needle Sharing, etc.. and that's just modern stuff!
(I'm a big experimental fan, if you couldn't tell)
