Re:OM.... Care Bears vs Klingons fight mechs
You hit the nail on the head there. Will Wright is fascinated with Care Bears. He had several slides on the topic in his GDC 2005 talk:
Pokemon, Neopets, Care Bears. Give kids a sense of ownership and mastery over the facts and details of the characters. Loved dinosaurs as a kid. Knew the rock-scissors-paper of different species of dinosaurs, which was something his mom didn't know. Mastery of facts.
Care bears. Started as greeting cards. Found a web app that categorizes your personality: Which Care Bear are you? Each care bear has special abilities. Care bear have cousins, that aren't even bears. Care bears live in a star-speckled, rainbow-trimmed, cotton candy, cloud world called "Care a Lot". If they fall out of the clouds, they land in the "Forest of Feelings" (Kindom of Caring). Forest of Feelings is over the earth. So the Earth must be the "Kingdom of people who don't give a shit".

How about some proof? http://www.gamingsteve.com/archives/spore/index.p

It was reported long before that as well. I'm sure I heard that WAY before May. -
Actually it isn't this simple.I recently looked into the Hot Coffee mod and in september last year the ESRB started looking into modding. I'm not sure what resulted into this but the ESRB wanted that games need to be rated based upon how the game could be after modding. For more info try for instance this podcast around 50:45 minutes.
Not that I doubt that if they have any sense they will do this as this means any open source app or any changable game needs to be rated under the same type:Online games that include user-generated content (e.g., chat, maps, skins) carry the notice "Game Experience May Change During Online Play" to warn consumers that content created by players of the game has not been rated by the ESRB.
That kinda ruins the entire idea of ratings. -
Re:BRING BACK SAM & MAX
>New episodic Sam & Max games are on the way...
Ah, but more importantly, it's because Lucas let the rights to the IP revert to the characters' creator.
Apparently, being a fat, rich, mindless tool of your own artistic failure cum monetary overkill means you're too dumb to recognize a good thing when you have it under contract. -
Don't look any farther
Just use iTunes. You can subscribe to podcasts by url, and choose to have them downloaded to your iPod, etc.
In terms of podcasts, though, you really need to find ones you like. I listen to Gaming Steve (http://www.gamingsteve.com/) but that's MY taste. You need to find what you like for yourself.

Spore forum
I have been keeping an eye on this game since I first heard of it at E3. For those of you who want to keep up with this game, go to http://www.gamingsteve.com/ and check out the spore forum at http://gamingsteve.com/blab/index.php?board=12.0 , Will Wright and the developers often check what is written there.

Re:Let us take in all the facts, shall we?
Ironic you say this, since Warcraft III had Pandaren's and Panda mobs in it, eh? And yes, it was in China. Not to mention there is a "panda cub" pet in WoW right now.
It's indirectly ironic, at best. Warcraft 3 had Pandaren in a non-violent, NPC role. In WoW, the Panda Cub pet is a non-combat pet. Both are specific examples of how Pandas haven't been used in a violent capacity.
This my friend, is the lamest and least thought out excuse anyone has ever some up with against them.
You may need to look closely at how you treat your friends. If I'm your friend, I might take umbrage at your callous attempt at calling me lame. It's practically juvenile to think that by interjecting this thought into the conversation that I've come up with this idea all on my own, don't you agree?
Here's an excellent example of the discussion and debate regarding why Pandaren won't be consdered for the expansion (as well as a couple of decent examinations of how WoW operates in China). There has been hubbub on both sides of the issue in the official forums, but reading them for any worth is like attempting to stick a large ice pick up your nose -- and then twisting it.
Ever hear of censoring? Just retexture them to a different kind of bear in the Chinese version if it is such a problem. (Which it isn't.)
You seem to have a really good source on the nature of the Alliance race, or the problems Blizzard has or has not had with distribution in China. Are you shooting from the hip here, or do you have anything to cite? -

Forgot to plug shamelessly: when I say "Spore forum", I mean Gaming Steve's Spore Forum.

Re:solution: FOSS games
Check out Spore, a game by none other than Will Wright based around the idea of user created content.
The exceedingly large fraction of the costs going to create art is an anomaly. In the future the content will a) be taken from huge libraries of real-world objects b) generated procedurally and c) created by users.
There are also whole genres of games that do not require extensive graphics assets. -
My Detailed ImpressionsFor those of you more interested in a larger overview of the game you can listen to my podcast where I go through painstaking detail of every screen, mouse-click, and item I saw during the Spore demo at the GDC this year.
It's almost an hour long and I go over each and every screen and action performed during the demo.
