MyAutomatedConversationCoachThe MIT site: http://web.media.mit.edu/~mehoque/MACH.htm for the project has a bit more content in the form of before and after vids. The site links to http://web.media.mit.edu/~mehoque/SignUpForMACH.htm if you are interested in try MACH out.
Is MACH available for me to use?
We would love to make the system available to the general mass for free. Here are the caveats.
MACH was developed as part of a PhD thesis consisting of more than half a million lines of code. The current prototype works on a personal laptop. However, it is an extremely complicated system that we were able to put together with 2 years of effort.
In order to make a public release with seamless interaction experience, we would need to do more testing.
It is possible to make MACH work in a computer browser and make it widely accessible. However, that will require hiring 2-3 full time software engineers with 6-12 months of development and test period. Currently, we are looking for resources to make that happen. If you are in a position to support our work, or know of any funding agencies who might be interested to fund us, please do get in touch (mehoque at media dot mit dot edu) with us. In the mean time, please feel free to write/tweet to AutismSpeaks, NLMFF, Autism Science Foundation
I am remote and I would like to participate in your studies.
Recruiting participants is the most challenging part of our research and we appreciate your interest. However, with our current experimental set up, it makes it very difficult for us to recruit participants unless they are local. We hope to address this issue by developing an online version of our system.
I would like to be notified when the system becomes available to public.
Please sign up here. http://goo.gl/LDwb8 -

Re:Premium not enough?
There is a bathroom. Its in this building. There is also a nice room in there where everyone can eat, with a microwave and hot drinks. Sack lunches are provided (free, as part of site food service), and sometimes hot food can be had. It is also common to eat a sack lunch in the cab of a car, or sometimes just the base of the antenna. Management is fine with leaving the car engine running and heater on, so heated in the car is best if you don't want to drive back to the building. Oxygen bottles with the noise tubes are provided - and strongly encouraged. Though many employees don't like using them.
Of course, you only hear SynFlood's side of things because all non-union employees are directed not comment on the ongoing strike, which is why I am posting as AC. Some of his points are valid and a real problem. The food is bad, and should be better. The 12 hour days are real, and stupid - it should be 10 for the same total pay, giving workers more time to relax, call friends/family, or take a shuttle into San Pedro. But some of his points are not valid, and misrepresenting the issue makes solving the real problems that much harder.

Small towns? Just compare Hamhung, North Korea's second largest city and Busan, South Korea's second.
Note that most of Hamhung's south part is fertilizer plant's territory
Note how small it is compared to Busan - FFS, Busan's comparable in size with Pyongang, except one's sprawled around and another one's compact.
Note how abruptly civilization is cut and just about 1-2km west it's randomly scattered shacks.

Re : Same thing happened to me a week ago.
I live in India. Here some people are still trapped in superstitious beliefs and practices. There's spiritual guide named as Nirmal Baba, I wrote a post against him on my blog highlighting the ways he was using to corrupt the minds of the common people. The post was written one year ago. After that I had promoted it for a while, did some SEO and stuff. And then it faded away as Nirmal Baba obscured from public view because the media was targeting him one year ago. Then slowly the channels started shutting their mouths. His show " The third eye of Nirmal Baba" started re-airing on all the news channels in the morning slot as was earlier. I realized that things can't be changed. Nirmal Baba is a millionaire. He shut those people up. Sued everyone writing against him and then came my turn. I was sent a legal notice for writing against him, here's the link of the legal notice to read online : http://goo.gl/rWOvbn I talked to a lawyer. I was assured that if matters go into court, I would win. But I was also made alert that the potential harassment by followers of the Baba could make my life a nightmare. I DELETED THAT BLOG POST. (Here's the original html files : http://goo.gl/vm2Ske )And that's the price I had to pay. Forget morals and standing up against wrong, Same as here, the dentist is misusing the legal powers to shut people up from expressing what they truly feel. This is not what happens in a democracy! And if the people aren't free to post on the internet, then we are surely entering a despotic age!

Florida land development
What did you expect? It's a land development project in South Florida. There's a long, long history of scams in that industry.
Also, the location sucks. From the rather vague map on their web site, it's south of Kissamee and due east of Brandon. There's about here. That's Indian Lake Estates, which, as you can see from the aerials, was supposed to be a large development with 300 city blocks. About 5% of the lots have houses. There's one area where houses were built along small canals, but the canals all dead-end, so there's no flow and they'll stagnate. Here's a street view. Nearby are remnants of other failed developments, a defunct Air Force base, and a a few modest farms.
It doesn't look like "regulation" was the problem. More like "reality".

If the US has it as a national park, the others will likely be polite enough to avoid trashing it.
How naive... This is how America falls... via people so disconnected from reality..
Parent+1 : So true. Look at how wonderfully American interests are preserving land in the sq. mile around Niagara Falls National Park

The visuals of the local neighborhoods are stunning - especially just behind the treeline as you follow the river into America (not!)

:It will take several years and millions of dollars before Great Falls looks like a national park; there won't even be ranger programs until next year. Since the designation, though, the site has received many more visitors. Robert Marshall, a retired public works director from a nearby suburb, had often driven past the falls, but until last month he'd never seen it up close. "I didn't know you could park and walk around here," he says, standing on the footbridge across from the falls. Then Marshall professed confusion over the national park designation: "The park service seems to be talking about laying people off, and they're adding a park here."
As if to illustrate the debate, along came Hamid Amer, his wife and three kids. All seemed mesmerized by the falls. None had ever set foot in a national park. Amer, a Palestinian barber who moved his family to the USA five years ago from the West Bank, voiced concern over the amount of trash on the ground and in the water and said he thought the Park Service could clean it up."

http://www.nps.gov/pagr/planyourvisit/hours.htmIf anybody has any sense.. they won't let our elected leaders pollute and commodify one of the last places we haven't destroyed yet. Should visiting the moon become an attainable vacation destination - let's try and put some real environmental laws in place; with sufficient funding and real enforcement. ( I think that should sufficiently exclude the Koch bros. from even entering lunar orbit.)

Obitalk
I guess I went a different direction with Google Voice. Best case my "home" line was a $25/mo VoIP line. $40/mo with the various Ma-Bells for a basic / barely use it line.
Then I ported existing home number first to Sprint (which was on some obscure VoIP provider which had ported it from at&t where it originated). Here I played a gamble as I already had an existing account with Sprint (wife's cell, I use wifi another GV# for mine w/ no issue). NOT having an account here would have seriously cost me [~$200]. Technically they could have charged me. $0 cost.
This could have just been a easy one step port, but because I was off on some unknown telco Google wouldn't port from I had to do it. Lost one day.
The moment the number went active / worked on the cell I initiated the new number request / port [one time $10 fee] with Google Voice for that number. It worked one day on the cell, and the next on Google Voice.
Then added Google Chat as a forwarded call line.
Bought the Obitalk device and configured it. One time fee $50. So for sixty dollars or within three months the move has paid for itself [so far
:-].Setup a free account ObiTalk at https://www.obitalk.com/ -- needed to configure the device...
So far Google / ObiTalk are $0/mo. EITHER one could change the terms and/or just cancel service with little to no notice. No notice with Obi and I'd just have to port my number someplace else. Same if Google cancels service (though they're good about notifying you). Problem: WILL Google port numbers out. Technically they are not a "telco" and I'm sure there's a loophole allowing them NOT to. Betting on "Do No Evil" here with my 30 year old phone number. Yes. It. Is. Cool.

Re:Backfire?
Have you tested your internet connection? packet loss and jitter can cause bad quality of service. This is a problem for your ISP to fix. If this comes out ok then id recommend checking the connection. if wireless and streaming through a media extender such as an Xbox 360 or a Playstation 3 check the signal strength. If your connected through an ethernet cable reset your rougher and modem. Make shure you unplug both and plug the modem in wait till it connects then the rougher If its your pc maybe its become infected with viruses and malware. these things id check. For the best speed test sight i use 8x8.com.

Re:Let's hope no one needs...
Yeah, central America could be huge for that kind of thing. There are large sections of Nicaragua that no one has entered for centuries, for example. There's not even a road from one side of the country to the other.
See those long yellow lines? Those are called roads. There are certainly more than zero that go from one side of Nicaragua to the other.

Re:Citations? They need to be sued heavily
The problem with broad generalizations is that they're usually wrong.
Downtown in my fair city, the traffic lights do all of the following, all of the time:
Timer-based operation
Pedestrian button-based operation
Inductive loop operation
Photosensitive activation by emergency strobes of a certain cadenceThe walk signals also operate whenever the light turns green for that direction, no matter what activated the light, unless it was activated by an emergency vehicle.
Despite all of this, the countdown displays make excellent predictors of an upcoming yellow light in normal traffic: It counts to zero (or 1, I forget), starts flashing some manner of "Don't Walk" idiogram for several seconds. After that, the yellow and solid "Don't Walk" happen concurrently.
Every. Single. Time. It's consistent.
Meanwhile, car-specific indicators do exist: Examples of them are on US 23 north of Columbus with a speed limit of 55MPH. The sign simply says "Prepare to stop if flashing" a good distance ahead of the intersections. By golly: If it's flashing when you approach that sign, you may as well coast because you'll be stopping soon enough.
In terms of trying to drive safely and proactively, I don't need a timer to tell me that the light will change soon. I just need an indicator. For me in my area, a dedicated flashing light works fine on higher-speed roads, as does a countdown timer on lower-speed city streets: I can see it fine at 35MPH. *shrug*
