risk
From the article:
"It's amazing that Stardust flew without anyone having a clue as to how to get particles out of the aerogel after it came back," Westphal said. "You have to give NASA credit for taking a risk."
I doubt this very much because it realy isnt like nasa to spend probly a few million dollars on something they could have tested before sending it up in space...

unfair..
this article seems to me a bit on the unfair side off things... i personaly have even
stopped caring that much about the many security flaws.. i know there are just too many
found because the os wasnt designed with security in mind.
i'm just gonna wait and see how vista does.

I wonder what he means by this ?
"Disclaimer: Kudos to NewsForge for the idea, and Microsoft for the inspiration. I also
declare that all events described in this piece are factually correct, they really,
honestly happened. Just not necessarily all at the same time, on the same computer. "
So basicly fiction?

Meanwhile, some of the changes are GOOD!Instead of complaining about the few things that Lucas changes that apparently ruined your childhood, why not check out some of the subtle things Lucas cleaned up or altered that will be a massive improvement over the original releases?
Bear in mind, people, that directors (even Lucas) get pressure to alter their films, change things, remove things, cut corners, etc. At least give Lucas's new versions a chance before denouncing them outright. It appears to me that lots of things have been changed just to improve what he originally intended and only a few changes to tweak the films to make them line up with the prequels. I see lots worth being excited about, little worth whining about.
I'm especially thrilled that they took the time to color correct the damn Rancor scene in Jedi. It never looked right that Luke's shading was a noticeable lighter value than the Rancor's. It looked like an actor moving around in front of a movie screen. Judging from the stills on the site above, it looks perfect.

Re:Interesting
You mean, whether Kiss implimented MPlayer's unique, never seen in the outside world, never used in a video file, subtitle format called MPsub, all at once, or over time?
Perhaps he noticed that there are other commercial products which seem to support the format.
Of course, it's possible that SubMax is written by MPlayer developers since both MPlayer and SubMax are based in Hungary. I'm a fickle bastard though. I trust the MPlayer development team to give a full and accurate appraisal of the situation as much as I trust GW Bush to give an accurate appraisal of the situation in Iraq. -
In case you are serious, yes
Air Hockey plans for those who are willing to attempt it. Anyone who would attempt though though, shouldn't need plans too much, it is exactly what you would think: drill lots of little holes in exactly the right spot, then a fan to blow air through them.

I agree The Family Circus is very funny!

Re:What about replacing SMTP?Yes, but the logistical problems trying to overhaul something as ubiquitous as SMTP are unsurmountable. The 'net has worked mostly because everything has been designed for interoperability-- a non-compatible overhaul would break so many things this wouldn't even be funny.
It turns out there are compatible upgrades that can help reduce the cost of spam, and reduce their flow [shameless plug for my own work-in-progress for an SMTP extension that does just that].
The problem is, the only way to dispose of spam would be end-to-end authentication tied to a physical identity; I'm sure there are very many governements and evil corporations would would just love that.
And even then; rather than big spammers paying for disposable accounts they'd pay for disposable stooges who are willing to exchange their mail reputation against some big dough for spamming until they get kicked out.

Re:Wow, I'm actually one of the first 20 posters..
Watch it. There was at least one version i downloaded from there that had some really strange hosts entries and other weird stuff. Seems someone is trying to hijack kazaalite for his own scheme. Look (eg.) here freewebhosting.hostdepartment.com/kazaalitetk or here www.k-lite.tk for a more trustworthy download site.
