Re:Why the lousy shape?
Cripes, you people bitch yet wont take the time to go find the products that have been out for 2 years now to give you the "look" that you bitch is not available....
Actually I never said it wasn't available, I was asking why they decided on something that is not going to fit in with other home theater equipment.
Personally I do not like the coolermaster, I already know which case I will be using and oddly enough they have a reseller AND an OEM program so these guys could have just gone through them. And not only do they look really nice they are fanless.
Here's the link so you can stop bitching ;) -
Re:I like this whole idea
Here, have a look at these, they are beautiful, but expensive.
I'm just about to pull the trigger on one of these, one more clinet to finish up and I just might be ready. -
Re:Bring on the heatpipes!
OK, here are your heat pipes.
And if you want really quiet try one of these -
Digi Fi = Hush PC?
I thought it was interesting that the Digi Fi "hard drive audio player" is clearly built on the same base as the hush PC. Who is the OEM here, and where can I buy their chassis wholesale? Hush PC is, IMHO, way too expensive (although a great concept). There has to be a Sager equivalent making their stuff. Anyone know?

Please list your specs.Could you please list the components you used for assembling this unit (like fans, cpu and speed, gpu etc)?
Half a year ago, I shelled out about a grand for a so called "Hush unit" from the German company Hush Technologies.. Frankly, I'd thought it'd be more hushish than it actually was.
I'm not saying that I'd sounding like a 3-year-old IBM PC (kind of like a DC-3 starting it's engine), but it isn't exactly silent either. In fact, it generates enough noise to make me unable to sleep, having the unit in my bedroom. It's the HD (Seagate B.) that's making the sound and the sound isn't dampened enough, as it's surrounded by a steel chassis and as you know, steel isn't the best of materials reducing noise.
Also, the unit seems to draw an immense amount of power first when turned on and with the shitty PSU not being able to provide enough juice, some units always fail to initialize correctly (like the network 'adapter').
So, I'm looking for a new unit to replace this POS with one which fills the following criteria:
- Is completely inaudible from a distance of one meter
- Has a MoBo which can be fitted with a HD with more than 120GB of storage and has integrated sound (preferably 5.1 surround).
- Can be fitted with ordinary CPUs (Intel/AMD)
- Has at least one PCI expansion slot
- Has a PSU with enough watts to power the above and some more (as a safety margin).
For me, silence is worth a lot and I've paid thus far an incredible premium to reduce it on my machines. And by silence, I don't mean a low hum, but no perceptible sound at all.
Please, if you or anyone else know of a system which fill these criteria, I'd be very grateful to read about it. - Is completely inaudible from a distance of one meter

err...
I think I'm going to wait until I can get a cheap box that will play DVDs, CDs, as well as connect to a network and play MP3s and DIVXs... Doesn't the hush do that?

Re:Are you all mad....??
Well, you can build one yourself. For example, get a Antec Sonata case. Put Athlon64 in there (it runs pretty cool, so you don't need loud fans. Or Opteron 24x if you want to go dual. that alone would be pretty quiet.
Or maybe something like this -
Config is King! The FamilyPC I set up for my folks
Hush Technologies Epia M 10000 Mini ITX System
Flashy silver TFT Display with Sound (Sony or Samsung)

The system also should have ssh2 running for your quick remote help in emergencies.
Note that a proper professional configuration and instruction is worth a hundred times more to a normal user than the latest gadget in soft or hardware!
If your people really mean something to you give them a well configured system!!! And can't stress this enough. This of course is easiyer achieved on a Linux system. Check out the stuff, fiddle with it yourself and when you feel safe do a nice setup for your folks. Tell, show and prove them that they've got the latest and greatest what softwaretechnology has to offer, with reference grade quality usability. Don't forget: Configuration and Setup is King!
The system I buillt kicks any standard WinXP system up and down the street in speed, accessability, safety and ease of use! And exept for Turboprint Deluxe, Heroes and Alpha Centauri all the software is free! -

Re:Ask Slashdot: cases?
Try a Hush PC. About as small as you can get, no internal fans. (So the only moving parts are the HD and the optical drive. I suggest getting quiet ones.)

Re:Thats a lot of bananas
