Actually, it made $808,700,000.00
Check out http://www.imdb.com/boxoffice/alltimegross?region
= world-wide
The whole idea of releasing a movie to the internet means that anyone in the world can grab a copy, not just people in the US, so global revenue is a more accurate figure to use.
The internet does not end at US borders ya know ;)

Personally, I'm not a slave to my phone. When I don't want to be bothered, the phone is OFF.

Re:Also from the article...
According to http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0405159/news, Redding also was distributing a "screener" copy that he received as a member of the Screen Actors Guild. No doubt the terms of the license under which he received the copy forbade redistribution of the movie to others.
None of this applies to movies you purchase legally on DVD. These copies are governed by the "first-sale doctrine" found in 17 USC 109 http://www.copyright.gov/title17/92chap1.html:
109. Limitations on exclusive rights: Effect of transfer of particular copy or phonorecord
(a) Notwithstanding the provisions of section 106(3), the owner of a particular copy or phonorecord lawfully made under this title, or any person authorized by such owner, is entitled, without the authority of the copyright owner, to sell or otherwise dispose of the possession of that copy or phonorecord.
Now there are some new limitations to the first-sale doctrine as it applies to older works whose copyright was extended under the "Sonny Bono" bill. This is followed by a rather remarkable section (109(b)(i)(A) that essentially nullifies the first-sale doctrine when applied to sound recordings and computer software if the redistribution is "for the purposes of direct or indirect commercial advantage." I find this puzzling since it appears to ban the sale of used phonograph records and CDs. IANAL, so this reading is based on the text of the law itself. (Somehow the MPAA appears to have missed the boat on this one.)
However nothing that I know of prohibits you from lending a DVD you have purchased to a friend. However neither of you have the right to make a copy of that DVD except under the extrememly limited provisions termed "fair use." These include "purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research." Despite constant claims here on Slashdot that there is some type of fair-use exemption for "backup copies," I don't believe such an exemption actually exists in law, at least as it applies to motion pictures. Morever any such copies of most DVD's requires defeating the CSS protections and thus constitutes a violation of Digital Millenium Copyright Act.
I'm not saying I agree with all of these provisions, but that's my understanding of the state of the law regarding redistribution. And, again, IANAL. -

Blame Hollywood
Tron (1982). WarGames (1983). http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113243/">Hackers (1995). Angelina Jolie was a geek. Ryan Phillipe was a geek. Not to mention Keanu Reeves. When geeks aren't busy proving fermat's last theorem, they're out saving the world from corporate scum. PS. I have no idea what that last link is about, it's the fruit of random googling.

Corpse Bride & Wallace & Gromit???How could any geek forget these two:
- Tim Burton's Corpse Bride, which returns us to Burton's macabre roots.
- Wallace and Gromit, The Curse of the Were-Rabbit
These are classic geek genres, and Wallace & Gromit is something I can watch with the kids! -
Re:Mmmmm...
there is a completely different cute redhead with precocious personality traits
Yeah, but she was only in the series. She's not in the movie. :o) -
Re:article is off-topic
Hmm.. what wonderful social skills you have - yes, a true nerd.
:o)
The difference between geeks and nerds is that geeks have social skills. This was illustrated beautifully in Wargames, when David seeks help from Jim and Malvin. Jim is a geek, Malvin is a nerd.
And of course dorks don't have technical skills *or* social skills. :o) -
Broken paradigm
The higher education system has been working on that assumption for generations and its still as patently false now as it was when the first person started to ass/u/me that. The real truth of the matter is that most students can perform highly if they are willing to be dedicated and the instructor is willing and able to Stand and Deliver

Enterprise as a Fish Tank
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092007/
They basically used the Enterprise a fish tank to carry some whales back to the future. Well Scotty did some stuff with transparent aluminum, but..., geeze, and I'm not even a real Trekkie. -
Re:And with that...
Didn't they watch the Batman movies after the first one?
The first one? You mean this one? So bad, it was terrific? :) -
Re:Bad news
And let's not forget this. We are on slashdot, after all.
-
Re:Bad news
someone has not seen this!
I'd suggest this instead, but that'd be cheating. -
Re:Bad news
worst movie ever? obviously, someone has not seen this! worst...movie...ever!
-
Re:Sounds like they're doing Ultimate Venom
Except didn't they already insert Eddie Brock as reporter in the first movie? This would seem to indicate that they are going traditional Venom storyline.

Re:Old & incomplete news.
Given that their faces never appear on screen together (except for one blurry, brief scene at night), it could have been done!

Dubbed again
Outlanders was actually one of the first dubbed available in America back in 1986. Here's the cast list from that first dub. There are some interesting names to anime fans in that list.

Re:Bad news
On the plus side of the equation, there was nobody in the film that one could claim was actually wasted on such a project.
What about Dennis Hopper? But as bad as Waterworld was, it didn't keep Costner from making the even-more-unwatchable The Postman two years later. -

I challenge anyone to find a worse movie than http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0143096/ . Not counting movies by George Lucas, anyway.

Re:American Anime Dubbers: They just don't get it
Or at least, I'm assuming it must be Maurice LaMarche. There's not many people who could be familiar enough with the voice acting business
Do you actually think CPM is in the same business as LaMarche or Chalk? Re-dubbing imported anime is a separate field from voicing original English cartoons*
Maurice and Gary do domestic productions. They don't dub anime, or at least I can't find any here. Conversely, most well-known anime VAs rarely work an original English cartoon. The two businesses seem to have mainly non-overlapping sets of actors.
And, the style of workflow is quite different. Original cartoons, for best results, will record the voices first and then draw animations to match (sometimes viewing the actor on video for guidelines). A little ad-libbing can be encouraged. For anime dubs, the process goes backwards, and the actors must struggle to talk in false voices while matching syllables to pre-existing face movements from a speaker in a different language. There are specific digital tools used for redubbing anime that have little place in original works, and which, though timesaving, cause noticable quality flaws.
* That's part of the problem with dubbed anime, actually. If they had some of the voice/directoral/editing talent from American cartoons, it would turn out better. A voice track should never be considered finished unless it's at least marginally entertaining to hear with your eyes closed.
One of our generation's most versatile and distinguished voice acting talents!

Re:American Anime Dubbers: They just don't get it
There definitely are. Crispin Freeman springs to mind...
Maybe he's had formal training. And looking at the length of his resume, his dubbing is a full-time job. But the proof is in the results: none of the handful of dubbed DVDs I have with him are even close to acceptable listening quality.
Maybe that's not his fault- maybe it's just impatient or incompetent voice directors. Or it might just be my untrustworthy personal opinion. But notice that in that long list of jobs, he doesn't have one cartoon originally made in America (aside from game cutscenes). If he were that great, he'd at least have guest shots on comedy and childrens' toons.
The English-speaking world will not get good dubbed anime until the voice actors for anime are the same bunch of people as domestic toons like Samurai Jack, Batman, and The Simpsons. You want to see a truely professional American voice actor? Just look at Harry Shearer. The good ones don't stoop to work anime episodes: they stick with Disney, Warner Bros, Fox, Pixar, and Cartoon Network. -

Re:Bad news
No, The Avengers is the worst movie ever made. (but your point is still valid.)
Informative?? Given that the Avengers isn't even in IMDB's bottom 100 movies of all time,
there are far worse movies out there than that.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go dust my Emma Peel action figure. :-P -
Re:Bad news
No, I must correct you, Gappa, the Triphibian Monster is the worst film ever made...

Re:Geez....
Yes you are correct. It was R. C. Everbeck.

I thought this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060666/ was the worst movie ever.

Re:No Kingpin?!
Dig a link further into Daredevil and read the triva, about halfway down the page they mention that because the characters were licensed by different movie studios the characters can't crossover.

Re:Venom
Does it also matter that I didn't know that Topher Grace and Tobey McGuire were different people? They look nearly identical - like brothers.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.
Don't say something is the Worst Movie Ever Made until you've seen this stinker.
It's about a guy who's murdered, and his brain is transplanted into a dinosaur (by the people who murdered him), and his quest to win back his girlfriend.
Even the premise screams "WHO LET ONE RIP?" -
Re:Bad news
Or my favorite, Pinata: Survival Island (aka demon island) about a bunch of college kids on an underwear scavenger hunt on an island where they awaken a posessed PINATA (the worst CG pinata you'll ever see at that) who runs around the island killing people like he's f'ing rambo.
I've never seen anything worse.. Saw it at a screening in OC, then found the DVD in the $5 bin at WalMart so I -had- to get it and put my friends through it too. A movie so bad Jamie Pressley couldn't save it. -
Re:Bad news
heh...you're all wron this http://imdb.com/title/tt0332348/ is the worst movie of all time (released in any manner) I have seen high school film projects of better quality ( actulally I don't think I have seen high school film projects that are much worse then this)..try to find it and behold it's awfulness

Re:Bad news
Look, there are bad films, and then there are Bad Films. As crap as Showgirls may be it has features like semi-professional camera work, audible dialog, a plot that is not only coherent, but can actually be discerned just from watching the film, and a complete lack of 5 minute long nausea inducing strobe light scenes. Until you have seen the true horror of something like The Roller Blade Seven you don't really know bad films. Try reading some of the user reviews to get some idea - but be aware, until you've seen TRB7 you can never truly understand how bad it is; you'll think you know, but believe me, you don't.

Re:The original movie Eddie
Still, that's not as much of a change as the actors playing Harvey Dent from the 1989 Batman to the later Batman Forever.

Re:Top 10 List
Like the shape has some magical property or that they were influenced by aliens
Duh, I saw this Documentary on how aliens really build the pyramids. I'm sure it's all true because it was on TV. -
Re:Bad news
For a truly obscure and a truly mind numbingly bad movie try The Irish Gringo. It redefines the genre of bad movies. Until you have seen this movie, you really have no idea how awful movies can be. I'm not kidding. This one makes The Avengers look like The Godfather II.
