My money is on Margaret Cho
FTA: "The actress - referred to in court documents by the placeholder name Jane Doe - lives in Texas, is of Asian descent and has an Americanised stage name...approaching 40"
1. All I could think of was comedian Margaret Cho http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Cho , who just turned 43. (ie. slightly lying about age for the sake of posterity?"
2. She performed in Texas, dunno if she lives there.
3. That's her stage name, her birth name was "Moran Cho".
4. And she has no good movies, http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0158632/ . So maybe she considers doing all B movies "up and coming". Her pics try to make her look like a hot 20 year old. Ah, the joys of Photoshop and lawyers.

Re:Give me a large personal break!
Clearly you have no idea what you're talking about. Betty has worked almost non-stop since 1945. Starting when she was a pretty young thing. All you had to do was go to Imdb and check out Betty White's filmography. There are a few women who started in movies at middle age, and they were either character actors or comediennes like Phylis Diller. They're also obviously the exception that proves the rule.
If you're a woman and you aren't young and lovely, you're going to have a very hard time getting ahead in Movies or Television. Hollywood is vitually synonymous with agism and sexism (haven't you ever heard of the casting couch?)
Why do you think shows like the X-Factor are now taking 12 and 13 year olds? Because they want to rob Disney Productions of the next potential mega-star, and still squeeze 20 years of profit out of them before they're washed up at 30. Look at the number of actors who were popular in their 20s and gone by the time they hit 40 (and you'll find 90% are women.) Sex sells, and face it, we are a society that not only worships youth, but have seriously begun to sexualize children. At a time when 150 year life spans are totally possible, Making people second class citizens by the time they reach 40 is dark karma, and as a culture we should maybe be looking at valuing our elders for something more than fetish porn.

Re:Has she been outed yet?
There was speculation it might be Nicole Bilderback. Lives in Texas, has an American sounding name via adoption, born in South Korea so DOB might be harder to normally locate.

I found her!

Someone else suggested this on another site. (i.e. don't try to sue Slashdot / me just because I did a Google search)

It's Nicole Bilderback, born June 10, 1975
Obvious publicity stunt. -
Shoulder-mounted projector?
The UI is completely multitouch and worn on the shoulder, which will turn any surface you are pointing at into a usable workspace by the combination of a projector and a 3D modeling device similar to the Kinect.
Please let me set the default cursor to three little red dots.

Re:How is this censorship?
Exactly. I forget who said it, and I don't remember the exact wording, but I once read a very wise quote: "Evaluate any government proposal based not on the supposed benefit that will be imparted if administered properly, but by the harm inflicted if administered improperly."
And besides that, we're talking about a system where one group of people are making decisions about "appropriateness" for a huge mass of people. The notion of what is "adult" or "inappropriate" content varies from individual to individual, as does the notion of "mental preparedness". As with any system of censorship or ratings, those who disagree are left by the wayside (see: "This Film Is Not Yet Rated" for an excellent example using the MPAA). -
Re:Shatner died for me when...
Besides the fact that you're singling him out for a joke skit decades ago which was written by someone else, I guess you've missed the part where, in the years since, Shatner wrote a book also called Get a Life! where he explains the skit and comes to grip with Star Trek culture. Or the dozens of things he's done since then including create a documentary about Star Trek captains.
People hate to be typecast. Hell, look at Leonard Nimoy who published a book called I Am Not Spock and then years later another book called I Am Spock .
I don't think it's humanly possible to miss the point and not get the joke any harder than you have in this instance. -
Re:Easy
So, with the political climate as it is, I can see a prison being built the size of one of the US's smaller states by a private firm and contracted out with local laws (and a paid for DA) to add crimes and hand out max sentences to prisoners while there.
John Carpenter called that 30 years ago http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082340/ As a plus you get to have all the OWS protestors and all the Wall Street criminals contained at once... Another bonus is if we start building the wall around Manhattan, there's some shovel ready jobs to help the economy.

Re:What Does This Mean?
Well, one notion I've had is that every number sequence can be represented within the definition of pi, somewhere. A computer file can also be represented as a series of numbers. Therefore, defining an offset in pi that corresponds to this "file" would be an excellent form of file compression (so long as the offset was smaller than the file itself).
There is also a belief that math is the language of the universe, and that pi is the name of God. -
Re:And for good reasons...
I've recently met Vilmos Zsigmond ( http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005936/ ) recently when he came to town for a screening of Close Encounters and did a lighting demo with Q&A. He went on at length about film vs digital. He essentially said with digital his job really don't change. It's as simple as working with another film stock. However he does prefer film because he felt digital was actually TOO sharp.

Re:Why not a British actor?

HBO "Superheroes" documentary on these guys
For those wondering about these new "superheroes," it's actually a movement of sorts. There was an excellent HBO documentary on them a while back. They're even forming groups now. When I heard about the documentary, I just expected to laugh at these guys. But it's actually a very interesting portrait of some well-meaning, though often a little deluded, guys who really do want to make the world a better place. I ended up feeling both sorry for them and a little envious of them at the same time.
One of the best points they made was that they are "patrolling" areas where the cops really don't give a shit. For example, at one point in the documentary a homeless guy gets run over by a car during one of the superhero group patrols. It's the "superheroes" who stop to help him. But when they call the cops to report it, they don't even show up. Even when they try to flag down a cop car as the guy is still laying on the ground bleeding, the cops just keep driving. It's the "superheroes" who take him to the hospital and then even track down the car that hit him (driven by an obviously intoxicated driver). But, again, when they call the cops on the drunk driver, they're basically told to fuck off.
As crazy as these guys are, I can't say that I don't understand why they do what they do. It's not just a bunch of losers wanting to be the comic book heroes of their fantasies. Some of them really do look around and say that the world NEEDS superheroes, especially the neighborhoods where no one else (including the cops) seems to give a shit. Part of me wishes I could have their faith in humanity. They may be deluded, but they're certainly not do-nothing cynics.

Accuracy and difficulty
To what accuracy is the thrust nozzle lathed? In the rocketry movie October Sky http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0132477/ I recall that the nozzle/motor was the most important build. Which component required the most math/sweat/swearing?

Re:The 1% are insulated
to quote:
"It's mostly a problem of identification. The real power-brokers love to be behind the scenes. They aren't the ones who are out there, on TV, participating in campaigns, issuing press releases, etc. That's all a puppet show for public consumption, to put it simply. The real aristocracy does everything by proxy, by funding, by corporations, and by front organizations. The single most effective thing they ever did was to replace real state-issued money with bank-issued monetized debt. That's how you grab a nation by the balls without ever using physical force."
dear lord, this reminds me so much of this brilliant mini-series called "a very british coup" ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094576/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Very_British_Coup), where... this unseen, unelected establishment decides to take out the democratically elected prime minister of england because he was not acting like he was supposed to. when one of "them" met with Harry Perkins (the labour pm in this series), he basically said "they" preferred to stay behind the curtains, out of the limelight... that they were the real power going way back... hence the subsequent speech by perkins on the telly, ending with:
"You the people must decide wether you prefer to ruled by an elected government or by people you've never heard of, people you've never voted for, people who remain quiet, behind the scenes, generaton after generation, yeah even unto the middle ages."
like '1984', this story is still very relevant.
do yourself a favour, go and watch it. -
These Protesters are Targetting the Right People
Wall St. is strangling the economy. Not the president, not congress, not even the lobbyists.
Outsourcing, H1Bs, downsizing, hostile takeovers, monopolies, mergers, automation, corruption, bribes, slave labor...you name it...it's all in the name of putting profits before human beings without exception. We used to have decent protections against these things, but since Reagan they have been systematically dismantled by both parties.
Shareholders & Boards of Directors are paying Lobbyists, and Lobbyists own Congress. If you believe otherwise...you are simply wrong.
Corporations are Sociopaths with shareholders profitting from the blood and suffering of those who get trampled in the process.

Re:1 million downloads @ 99c is still 990,000 doll
Please read the book, "Why Are Artists Poor" from Amazon. I read this book nearly 7 years ago because I wanted to understand the economics of open source by using a basis case of the arts.
Any book written over 7 years ago is likely far out of date with respect to the economics of the Internet.
Historically, gatekeepers like book publishers, record companies, and movie studios were the only way to get content widely distributed. This meant that if you did not fit the mold of what those gatekeepers were looking for, your content would never be consumed by more than a few people.
Today, those gatekeepers are becoming less and less meaningful, as "self-publishing" on the Internet can allow someone to reach a large enough audience to have their content be found by enough people who like it to make even small amounts of money per consumer add up to a reasonable paycheck. Yes, you are still going to have the "Angry Birds"/Beatles effect, where there are huge hits that skew the average, and you will have content that will be ignored. But, you no longer need to be able to convince some big company executive that your content will appeal to millions of people just to get it produced and available for 99% of people to reject (because all but the biggest "hits" are still only consumed by a tiny fraction of the population). With 7 billion people in the world, having 5% of people in the world consume your content means that you are more popular than Avatar, which only had about 3% or so people consume it, and that gave it over $2 billion in box office. On the other hand, having 100,000 fans (meaning 99.9986% of the world doesn't care about your content) can give you a nice solid living.

Re:Wow. -- Reminds me of a Movie
I would not rule out the chance to preserve a nucleus of human specimens. It would be quite easy at the bottom of some of our deeper mine shafts.
.This sounds a little like the concept for the movie "City of Ember". It is about a colony of humans sealed away under a mountain for hundreds of years until the surface became better again for human habitation. Unfortunately, the secret of the outside world was lost and as everything started to fall apart and they ran out of food... well it is is not a bad movie and worth watching it for yourself.
Obviously, the parent was describing a completely self sufficient colony where they could sustain the population indefinitely. The comment just made me think about the movie and you can call it off topic!
