Re:And the sheriff doesn't understand?
The police report described it as a 'gold DE' which probably meant 'gold plated', which probably meant 'gold coloured', which probably meant "a chinked-out brass-plated knock-off that he picked up on the cheap from one of the many gun-reselling pawn shops which dot the mouth-breathing American heartland"
If it was a brass plated knock off, it probably would have detonated in the girls' hand, rather than doing anything meaningful. No, Magnum Research happily caters to idiots with poor taste, and too much money in their pocket. So, it probably was the The 24k gold plated Deagle(tm) brand Desert Eagle or the Titanium Nitride plated Deagle(tm) brand Desert Eagle or for those with the most refined taste ($$$$) in over the top, audacious firearms, the Titanium nitride - tiger stripped Deagle(tm) brand Desert Eagle

"This colossal revolver"
Armatix will eventually offer higher caliber guns, like this colossal revolver, as well as rifles and shotguns.
"This colossal revolver" Looks about S&W K-frame size to me.
Wired goes to SHOT show. They should play to their strengths. Don't they have a hoplophile on staff?
Magnum Research's BFR (official parsing is "Biggest Finest Revolver") might qualify.
And no, an electronically disable-able gun is not a good idea.

Re:My two suggestions:
If you're suggesting a 9mm why not just throw rocks at your assailent? Crickey. Instead of being a puss get one of these http://www.magnumresearch.com/CustomFinishes.asp. When you're done working your legs all day on your bike, you can use the thing as weight for an upper body workout...

Re:Note to Journalists: say what the numbers mean
".357 magnum, the most powerful handgun in the whole world"
A .357 is a powerful handgun, but there are several others more powerful. The current champ* appears to be the 500 S&W, which from the article generates 2600+ ft. lbs. with a 440 grain bullet. A .357 magnum generates 583 ft. lbs. with a 125 grain bullet according to Chuck Hawks' site. The same chart also lists the .357 as having the highest (in that list of cartridges) rate of lethality in street shootings, but what exactly that is a measure of isn't stated.
* pistol-only cartridge. Magnum research makes a .444 Marlin (a rifle cartridge!) revolver, and some manufacturers of single-shot pistols (Remington XP-100 and Thompson/Center, among others) also take different rifle cartridges, some of which generate more ft lbs than the 500 S&W, although you've got to wonder at the practicality. I use a wussie pad for my .30-06 rifle, I can't imagine a .30-06 T/C Contender pistol being at all manageable. -
Re:It cant be any more dangerous
Nice that we can agree to disagree. My G17 has had 2000 rounds through it since I bought it privately a couple of months ago. My GF/SO is planning on (former Navy medic / NATO sailor) buying a Jericho 941 in the Baby Eagle (9x19, full steel reciever) TCN-coated edition. Since it is a good target gun. And pink. She has been a gunclub member for nearly 6 months and is thereby allowed to buy the gun and store it in my gun vault.

However, the most *fun* way to forever put your data beyond the reach of cops and courts can be found here. -
Re:Need sign if getting one of these...Indeed. Although in this day and age of super-magnum guns, the real reigning handgun champ is the
.500 S&W Magnum.I had the oppurtunity to try one of these out from a 4" S&W a couple weeks ago. Yowza. I have a touch of recoil junky in me, but that thing is just a little too overwhelming to be a "fun" shooter.
Magnum Research (makers of the Desert Eagle) also make a revolver called the "BFR" which is even more ridiculous - it's basically chambered for various large rifle rounds, like
.45-70 govt, .480 ruger and .444 Marlin (it blows my mind that anyone would even consider touching one of those off :) ). -
Re:Advertisement?
a rifle is not a good choice for personal defense.
Assume you're out in the midwest USA on a hunting trip. You're just waking up after sleeping under the stars in a sleeping bag, and a fucking grizzly bear is about to fucking eat you!!! Now, this certainly qualifies as a self defense situation. Luckily, you have both a cast iron frying pan and your 7mm Magnum rifle laying next to you, already loaded and with one in the chamber (you stashed it pointing in a safe direction with the safety on). Now, are you going to use the frying pan, or the deer rifle to kill the bear with?
You're not completely wrong with your statement, but that's only if I take it out of your anti-American, anti-gun context. A long ass deer rifle is not a good self defense weapon, but versus a bear out in the woods, it's better than a frying pan. Under the same situation, it's supposedly not as good as pepper spray, but I wouldn't want to face a bear with pepper spray alone. A BFR in .45/70 Gov't seems more appropriate, and while it could kill a deer too, it's not good for the ranges you'd face in the Midwest. It's also not good for living in an apartment building in a city. The bullet is far too powerful for thin walls. A Glock 21 (fires .45ACP) with frangible bullets is more appropriate.
Anyway, perhaps you can see how your ignorant, invective-filled comment is useless when you consider how complex the world actually is. You always use the best tool available, whether you're trying to factor RSA-2048, trying to down a deer for food, trying to stave off a grizzly bear, or trying to survive a drunken boyfriend. If you can't see that, then you have no business making comments on the matter. -
yer both pussies
Real Men(TM) use the fine handguns put out by Magnum Research.
They make the legendary Desert Eagle automatics, .357 Mag up to .50AE; their BFR [Biggest Finest Revolver] line goes all the way up to .450 Marlin, packing an insane 3500ft-lbs at the muzzle...now THAT'S protection! -
ditch the PDA
in favor of a sporty looking sidekick. Nobody runs away fast with an ass full of lead.

Re:virtually unstoppable?From the website:
"... the 912 was designed from the start to be cut, drilled, painted, accessorized, and modded!"
Desert Eagle mod should make it truly unstoppable! -
Re:Hmmm.
Nope. Magnum Research makes a Desert Eagle
.357 Magnum. You may have seen a similar gun chambered for .50 Mag in the Matrix (the agents used them, and fired them one-handed, which will break your arm if you tried it). -
Nah
Just give us some real life models to play with. With a reload action though. The Navy Seals Quake mod did it right. Once you see how well an AK47 works, you'll want one for all your assault rifle needs! Or the Desert Eagle
.50 Caliber. Oh yeah. I know where my next tax refund is going :-) -
Re:You'd better not try and import floppy disks
Your thought is very interesting. Not particularly new, you have to admit, tho. But still, one has got to keep it in mind that things can't be banned if they have multiple uses.
A knife can kill. A knife can also harm unintentionaly. But its primary use is preparing food. Now, if you see a 15" knife, in the hands of a frothing racist, that's a different thing. but 99.999% of the time, it is in our hands (implied: we are not frothing racists), preparing food.
Same with guns. Personaly, i like target practice (paper. not ducks. why kill ducks?). More than that, target practice is much more enjoyable with real weapons. I'd be an unhappy if i either had to pay thru the nose to get a gun and licence or if i wasn't able at all.
pretty much like if you ban violent videogames crime rates won't drop, banning cables won't stop pirates. It just gives then more fuel.
Anyway, just some thoughts... -
anti-spammer utility URL update
Sorry, put in a trailing slash. Here is the correct link.

Wrong Approach...
This will never work! Once again we are trying to use the wrong tool for the job. The problem with this approach is it focuses on the SPAM itself and not the SPAMMER. Killing SPAM will not stop SPAMMER from SPAMMING again. However, there is an excellent research group that has developed tools specifically designed to eliminate the root cause of the SPAM problem. That's why I am proposing using Magnum Research excellent anti-spammer utility. If every sysadmin would update their security tools with Magnum Research's hardware and used them daily against SPAMMERS, SPAM would be gone in a matter of months, if not weeks.
