It might interest some of you that CCP actually started out publishing the Icelandic board game "Hættuspilið" (en: Risky game) witch was notorious for getting its players so involved it would cause hefty arguments and even breakups or end friendships.

  5. Using encyclopedias as source on Long-Term Wikipedia Vandalism Exposed · · Score: 1

IMHO using an encyclopedia article as your only source for research is simply not a good idea, be it Wikipedia or Britannica or any other. Encyclopedias are meant to give an overview about topics and to cite original research, witch is what you should be reading and citing in your own research, not the encyclopedia article. There are of course exceptions to this, for instance if your are citing something fairly trivial and not fundamental to your research. But in general using an encyclopedia as your main source is just wrong.

  6. Re:Responses from a Firefox developer on Nine Reasons To Skip Firefox 2.0 · · Score: 1

Name the "important features" being hidden and I suspect the list will consist of features that are very important to a tiny fraction of our userbase.

I personally prefer using separate windows for each page, not tabs. This behaviour is no longer customizable in the Options and it took quite a while finding the about:config option for this. Frankly why this was left out of the tabs tab in the Options is beyond me since that tab is half empty anyway.

I'd like to add that this is just about the only thing that annoyed me about Firefox 2.0 (sorry, just bumped into the second one, Firefox is marked red by the spell checker!).

  8. None! on How Much Virtual Memory is Enough? · · Score: 1

My windows box has 2G RAM and turning of the swap file works very well. Windows swaps to disk weather or not it neads to, unless you turn swapping of completely (System Properties -> Advanced -> Performance Settings -> Advanced -> Virtual memory Change -> (o) No paging file -> Set).

The computer is a lot more responsive without virtual memory, and I get no thrashing, ever!

Using this sort of setup I recomend MemInfo from http://www.carthagosoft.net/ to be able to monitor memory usage (hitting the 2G max can be painfull).
