Re:Facebook gives me the creeps, I don't use it.
AC said: "Bullshit, they have never required a mobile number."
uh... sure you don't want to read the examples going back as far as 2010 and retract that statement?
Facebook has required mobile numbers many times. Not of all users. But facebook has experimented on subsets of it's users without their consent regularly. It's a skeevy, scummy company whose founder has openly mocked people who trusted him.
2014
https://www.theguardian.com/te...Facebook says the huge psychological experiment it secretly conducted on its users should have been âoedone differentlyâ and announced a new set of guidelines for how it will approach future research studies.
In a blogpost on Thursday, Mike Schroepfer, chief technology officer, said the company had been âoeunpreparedâ for the negative reactions it received when it published the results of an experiment in June.
Facebook published the results of a 2012 study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Unbeknown to users, Facebook had tampered with the news feeds of nearly 700,000 people, showing them an abnormally low number of either positive or negative posts. The experiment aimed to determine whether the company could alter the emotional state of its users.

" Facebook now requires your mobile phone number
I just went to Agar.io to pass some time and just as I tried to log in via my Facebook account I was told I wasn't allowed to log in until I fixed some things on Facebook. So off I went to Facebook and I'm told they want my mobile phone number in order to continue using my account!!
So I click the question "Why do I need to verify my identity by providing my phone number?" and it says this:
We want to make sure that this is really you and that youâ(TM)re connecting to Facebook with just one account.
To verify your identity, you'll need to log into Facebook and follow the on-site instructions to add your mobile number. Your phone number will be added to your profile, but you can choose who can see it there.
Note: Maintaining more than one account is a violation of the Facebook Terms.

Why do you keep asking for phone numbers?

Phone number is needed to provide extra layer of security for your account. Also to ensure Facebook that your account is real, reducing possibility of marked as suspicious. You can always hide the phone number from others via about section. This all, of course optional

Re:Steam?
It's not that different from Steam though. With Steam you can still lose access to all your games at any time that Valve decides, so you are renting the games not buying them. If they change the TOS in any way in the future that you do not agree with, then you can also lose access.

Re:This is ridiculous
You don't need a phone to run the mobile app. The fact that you can run android apps on a SDK on the computer has been known for a while now. See: http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/713865-How-to-get-Battle-net-Mobile-Authenticator-COMPLETELY-free

WoW player, and loving it
As a player that as been there since the days of Vanilla and playing almost non-stop in a semi-casual guild (and now as Guild Leader) I feel blizzard have been testing the waters for quite a while and have finally got it right. They have been experimenting with different ways of balancing PvP and PvE, as well as the difficulties of Raids and at which level they should be aimed at. In WotLK Naxx and TotC were complete and utter failures while Ulduar and ICC is rated as some of the best content to brace WoW since Vanilla. Come Cataclym, expectations where high, and though the first 3 Raid Dungeons were okay, they weren't great (besides Nef).. Because of peoples experience of WotlK (which I think was blizzards worst so far) people had already stopped playing and then when Firelands came out they didn't even bother levelling up to 85 ( http://www.mmo-champion.com/content/2413-Character-Activity-Stats-Poll-Trip-to-Blizzcon-Contest-MMO-Report ) But for those of us who have stuck it out, have finally been rewarded with Firelands... In my humble opinion, Blizzard has gotten Firelands 100% correct. It is hard, fun and epic. Firelands is about bringing the player, not the class It is about movement and tactics, not just standing still and smashing buttons.. Yes.. this has made organising raid nights harder as you can no longer carry players, but once you have weeded out those who are just not up to it.. It is definitely worth it.. The problem Blizzard are facing now is that because Firelands is so awesome, and hard casual players just aren't buying into it anymore, and so they are starting to pull the plug on subscriptions which looks bad, but it is probably the best thing that can happen.. This way blizzard won't have to cater for the n00bs who can't even play arcane mage
:( I for once is finally enjoying WoW again (as I did back in Vanilla and TBC) and I can definitely recommend Firelands to any WoW player who has ended their subscription and has been thinking of trying it out again. -
Loss of noise AND loss of signal.
Several posts on the WoW general forums and MMO-Champion's article on the subject raise a valid and somewhat chilling point: while forum trolls are likely to be driven away, removing some of the noise from actual discussions, actual contributing posters are going to be shying away from the new forum system as well. People who would otherwise be helpful, share knowledge about class and game mechanics or even info about interface-modding are going to disappear entirely from the forums because they do not want to be compelled to show their real name to all.
I'm not sure if the loss of signal will be worth the loss of noise here. -
Re:I call BS
Server Firsts are Feats of Strength. From the MMO-Chamption article (linked from TFA):
"The achievement count obviously doesn't take Feats of Strength into account because it's technically impossible to get all of them. (Well I guess you could race change to compete for the first level 80 undead/tauren/troll/orc/blood elf on the same character but I don't think you'll get all of them)"

Old News
This was news last week (11/27). The link below is the original link.... "There isn't a lot of official news to report this week because of Thanksgiving but hopefully I should have enough things to keep you entertained for a while. Also, 3.3 menu should appear on the site tomorrow, you can stop mailing me about that. Player "beats the game" on Taiwanese Servers There was a few posts about it on the forums during the past week and I'll assume it's worth a front page news. On taiwanese servers, from the guild (TW-Wrathbringer) succesfully completed all achievements in the game and is the first player to reach 986/986 achievements completed on the armory. Technically he's still missing BB King (added with Patch 3.2.2) and his World Events achievements are down to 138/139 because of that, luckily a bug with an old PvP achievement gives him 165/164, that's how he got 986/986. The achievement count obviously doesn't take Feats of Strength into account because it's technically impossible to get all of them. (Well I guess you could race change to compete for the first level 80 undead/tauren/troll/orc/blood elf on the same character but I don't think you'll get all of them)" http://www.mmo-champion.com/news-2/player-gets-all-achievements-shadowed-unit-frames/

Class Balance in WOW
If you enjoy reading about class balance, you can see a lot of insight from the WOW game designers (especially Ghostcrawler, lately) at the following sites:
The latter is a compilation of every Blizzard post in the WOW forums, while the former is just the highlights of meaningful class changes and discussion.
The Blizzard devs used to be much quieter, but coming into the latest expansion Ghostcrawler started exposing a lot of detailed reasons behind their design and balance decision. Of course everyone still QQs massively when their class gets nerfed.
But anyone willing to take a step back and think about game balance has all the design reasons there in the forums to explain why they make the changes they do. Blizzard even had a "Class Q&A" recently that covered a lot of questions about the design goals and directions for each class.
Unfortunately the blizzard devs get a ton of trolls and QQ in response to anything they do (no matter how kind or innocent). So be sure to watch this peephole into the design process while you can, before the whiners get Blizzard to revert to silence about their design reasons and goals.

Re:One glaring inadequacy.
It would depend on the mob and the rest of your build really. Assuming you DW two weapons with defense, AC, and stamina, I think the extra mitigation and avoidance would offset the extra swings. Take for instance two Infantry assault blades. About 1.1% less chance to be parried to begin with, 66 defense and 98 stamina. That defense helps achieve uncritable if you aren't quite there, and increases you avoidance roughly 1.5%. I think this thread makes a more persuasive argument.

AskSlashdot
Any word on when we'll get answers to some of the questions asked in THIS thread?
People attending Blizzcon got a StarCraft II Beta Key. Lucky bastards. Anyway, a lot of Blizzcon news will reported on MMO-Champion so check there. -
Re:PvE:raiding::PvP:arena ?
There is an interesting blue post explaining the new arena point costs associated with all PvP gear:
PvP Itemization, Battlegrounds, Blue posts
In a nutshell, this is an attempt to combat the "welfare epic" problem where a few weeks spent losing battlegrounds "earns" you a full set of high-end gear. Anyone who's spent any time trying to actually enjoy the PvP aspect of WoW will tell you how much they hate the "AFK'ers" and "let them win" whiners who have figured out that honor and tokens come faster by losing games than by attempting to win them, and to hell with everyone else.
I want to scream every time I see someone in (low-end) green gear and several pieces of (high-end) epic PvP gear queueing for battlegrounds. In what universe does it make sense to ruin everyone else's enjoyment of PvP because you're too damn lazy to run the dungeons and/or grind the reputation to get decent enough gear to be useful in a battleground?
Forcing people to do arenas in order to purchase PvP gear means that purchases must be spread out (only so many arena points can be earned each week, versus battleground honor points which have no weekly limit). Plus, if you suck at arenas then you get fewer points. People who want to gear quickly will be forced to seek it from other aspects of the game.

Emerald Dream as well?
There's some speculation that the Emerald Dream will make it in this expansion as well.
There's a ton of other good info at that site too.
