Think of the Cormack!
I agree, but let's not forget about Cormack and the Doom series that uses OpenGL!
Q: Is the Doom 3 engine OpenGL or DirectX?
A: The Doom 3 engine is Open GL.
Source
I'm not a "mac-head" but here's a flash from the past. The poorer the support in Windows for OpenGL the more likely Microsoft will lose out to Doom Legacy and equivalent ports of OpenGL software. Does Microsoft want to be a victim today, in future or never? (that might make a good slogan for anti-MS company). -

Re:They're only video games!
First of all, DOOM takes place on Phobos, one of the moons of Mars. http://www.planetdoom.com/doom/overview/
Secondly, the blockbuster version of DOOM will lose the setting and the demons. Amazingly, Hollywood found a way to make the plot worse. http://www.nightly.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb= get_topic;f=56;t=008003;p=0 -
Minor CorrectionYou do know, 'The rock' will play 'Sarge' (Master Sergeant Thomas Kelly), while 'Karl Urban' will play 'John Grimm' (our Hero - the UAC marine)... Right?!

... more 'what are we (rather, THEY) going to do about it?' (THEIR kinda infamous story screening process)btw, I've pasted my coverage of the story below - and I'd like to get opinions if I did a to sloppy job, or not. (IMHO, I didn't - but that's me

PS. Reservation of minor TypeError - and no I didn't have anything else to do an a friday night then re-type the Flash announcement ( *geeks* - do have prioritise too, just not 'the usuals'

BTW
I was looking at planetdoom and found this page.

Re:Time to update...
I read about Doom 3's release date on Planet Doom before the story was posted on slashdot. Also, I wonder if the WAD file format is going to change.

Two PointsI have two things to contribute:
1. DOOM3 is using an extremely advanced (and impressive) audio system. There is an excellent write-up of it here. For an atmospheric game like DOOM3, that sounds absolutely perfect.
2. Beware the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum if you are a gamer. It sounds fantastic, but the live drive (or whatever the Augidy 2 generation 5.25" sized input access is called), consistantly crashed games in my system (3000+, 9800 Pro, 1 GB RAM). To my surprise, when I disconnected the live drive and left the PCI card in, everything ran beautifully again. I always thought it was my viedo card acting up, but when Quake3 started crashing consistantly I had to do some investigation and to my surprise the Audigy was the guilty party.

Currently UnspecifiedIt will also be released for Linux and MacOS X as well.
Not that I'd be surprised if they'd made a mistake, but enough big mistakes probably would have been corrected.
Last one (no real new info in any of these). -
New requirements for DooM III ?Q&A with John Carmack
"
The german magazine PCGames Hardware has a quick Q&A with John Carmack in their latest issue. It's very short, but there are a lot of new and unbelievable information.
A video card with at least 128MB RAM and Pixel Shader 1.1 support is required for DOOM 3.
A 2.5GHz CPU should be enough for the stencil shadows and physics calculations.
The testing phase might last till summer or even later this year.
DOOM 3 will be released on 4 CDs.
Last time we heard about the target system for DOOM 3 it was just a PC with a GeForce 3 class video card, but according to that Q&A it will be the minimum. Maybe we will find out more during the upcoming GDC.
"
Looks like *I* won't buy buying/playing this game.
Fuck Id if they think I'm going to toss my Athon XP 2100+ and my Verto GF4 (64MB) just for their sorry asses -
