No love for the poor people though :D
No love for the poor people though as Microsoft rolls out the Avoid The Ghetto App! Now it'll be interesting to see what ruffles more feathers... supporting gay marriage or the "racist" avoid the ghetto app

Evolution is far more proven than global warming.
Climate change need not be taught until it is as well established as Evolution. Period! Speaking of evolution... You gotta love The Simpsons take on it. But seriously, the real issue is whether or not global warming is more of a natural vs a man-made process.

Re:$.99 Textbooks? Doubtful but...
Let's hope this will loosen the grip of the major publishing companies. Paying $150 for a textbook (at least in the US) because you HAVE to get the newest revision to correct a few spelling mistakes is bullshit!

While I had no love for the whole textbook scam back in college either, nor am I all that comfortable with Apple (or anyone else) "destroying" print textbooks.

Re:Intel brand fading?
Disagree! From their 3rd quarter financials...
"Intel managed to exceed analyst predictions, posting record revenue of $14.3 billion -- up $3.2 billion, or 29 percent year-over-year. The company also set new records for microprocessor units shipped, and expects further growth over the next quarter, with notebook computer sales driving $14.7 billion in predicted Q4 revenue."

Waste of money
Why on Earth do grade school students need to be issued a laptop? Early education should be about learning the basics. I remember not being able to use a calculator even in college Calculus classes as the professor thought it made people lazy and dependent on them. I do agree that schools should have computers, but every student?!?! Computer labs work just fine and cost a lot less than issuing every kid a computer.

Secure like HDDVD?
Hacked in 3....2....1
gasmonso http://religiousfreaks.com/ -
Only in America
We already spend a shit load of money on education and the results are poor at best. So what do we do? Spend more money of course! I think the US needs to look at other cultures to see how its done. We're obviously missing something and it definitely isn't money.

I got a better idea
Just do away with all this crap and stop bothering paying customers. Hackers will always find a way around whatever scheme MS or any other company devises. It's just a fact of life. If humans make it, humans can break it. Vista is already hacked and it will always continue. HDDVD has met the same fate.

Re:Gimme a break
This story freaks the hell out of me. I understand that there are necessary vaccines like polio and the like, but this appears to be solely driven by big business for the sole purpose of profiting. This is a step in the wrong direction to say the least and I hope you guys really drive that point home in Texas to send a message that we won't stand for this shit.

Just another nail in the coffin
Lately it seems that Microsoft has been spiraling downward at a good pace. From the uneventful launch of Vista to lawsuits like this, I think MS is spending more time on litigation and PR than developing good products.

Here's a great idea that uses no electricity!
Why doesn't the Australian government mandate the use of candles? They use no electricity and have little impact on the environment. Brilliant!

buttsexwithfishsquirrels tag`
For those unenlightened individuals wondering about the "buttsexwithfishsquirrels" tag, you may want to refer to the South Park episode dealing with evolution. You can watch the clip right here.

Pffft, MS mastered that years ago!
About time Mac catches up to Microsoft. I've been working with Windows NT and XP embedded for years and can appreciate the small images sizes of 250MB
;) Eat your heart out Mac... and Linux for that matter. http://religiousfreaks.com/ -
What's the difference?
It's all just a series of tubes...right?
http://religiousfreaks.com/ -
This is news???
Why does crap like this appear on Slashdot? Next time a bug is found in FF, I'm going to contact the media and scream bloody murder. What a waste.

YouTube Is Not Censoring Dumb @ss!
It's not YouTube per say, it's people flagging the video as inappropriate. That causes the restriction to be put on. Once YouTube became aware of that, they immediately removed the warning. I just watched the video on YouTube.
http://religiousfreaks.com/ -
Just ask the private sector how to fix this.
Well instead of monitoring this issue, why don't they get some proxy servers and firewalls running to stop them. Corporations have been doing this since the series of tubes was invented.
http://religiousfreaks.com/ -
No contest!
The Internets and it's vast network of tubes is far superior to email. Porn is on the net, not in email.

Still Depressing
While I applaud these lawyers (that hurt me to say) I get the feeling that they are just as powerless as we. Everyone knows these cases should be thrown out, but they aren't. That's the real issue, not just successfully defending people. The entire practice of suing people over music needs to die a horrible death. I hope you can hear us Superman!
http://religiousfreaks.com/ -
Easier said than done?
I agree that they need to do something, but that is a fantastic challenge. Look at your major encyclopedias, they have a team of several thousand to do fact checking on a paid basis. I'm not saying people wouldn't fact check, but its a great challenge. How would you know that people aren't just saying its legit or not just for fun?

Just finish the job...
Circuit City already has one foot in the grave, so why not take a chance. They've been losing their @ss to Best Buy for years. I wish them the best of luck though!

Re:I believe in Evolution and God
You're right! I need something awesome like JETRIS!!! That's a killers site man... seriously. Go commercial with that one! Or better yet, mind your own damn business

CrazyJim, Genesis will never change because it's just a fairy tale. Come get yourself educated my friend.

Let's try to avoid a catastrophe too.
I think a good effort should be made to avoid disaster in the first place. Tracking asteroids, studying diseases, and just getting along so we don't nuke ourselves would be a good start.

Re:Who the hell is buying this crap?
This is different because these are two competing technologies. Not buying CDs because something better will come out is just ignorant because there is no alternative. CDs were clearly the go ahead platform, whereas blu-ray and hddvd is undecided. One will eventually go away leaving the other the winner... thus the VHS/Betamax analogy.
http://religiousfreaks.com/ -
Who the hell is buying this crap?
Seriously, untill there's a winner, why buy something that may be the next betamax? I guess it could be a piece of history

AOL Is On Its Last Leg
It's over AOL, the days of dialup are gone and people will eventually be using DSL or Cable provided by their locality. I for one am impressed that AOL even exists. I mean seriously, who uses AOL?

Google Earth From User Photos?
This basically looks like Google Earth based on user photos and not satellite photos. I find it quite interesting, but a little too much of a gimmick right now. Pixel zooming into a picture is NOT the same as diving into the scene and looking around like its a virtual world.

Ethanol is NOT the silver bullet!
Ethanol does not give you better gas mileage... thus you have to burn more. Also, the price is not going to be cheaper with out federal subsidies to artificially lower it. And lastly, most ethanol is produced by corn in an extremely wasteful process that requires an enormous amount of energy which cuts in on its overall efficiency.

More for business?
Not sure if I follow this. Harddrives are well under $1/GB. If you buy several 400 GB drives and just connect them in an old PC thats on the network, aren't you accomplishing the same thing? I have a terraserver at home and it cost http://religiousfreaks.com/

Does that translate to customer savings?
Thats all good so long as this translates to customer savings.... does it?
http://religiousfreaks.com/ -
Just more overhead
As with System Restore, Windows Firewall, Remote Assistance, etc... just disable, delete and install better applications to provide the same functionality. MS should just focus on security, stability, and releasing the damn thing.

Old Ballistic missile was used...
Makes you wonder how much of the aging Soviet and US nuclear missile arsenal actually works
http://religiousfreaks.com/ :) I have this picture of WWIII breaking out and both the US and Russia push the button only to be incinerated by their own missiles as they fall from the sky 20 yards from the launch site :) -
Just relax
Chances are the install is going to work. I think people should focus their attention on the OS after it is installed. That's a lot more important if you ask me. I can guarantee that it will be friendly towards OEMs because thats their bread and butter. It's a non-issue.

Those were the days...
I remember making "awesome" games in the 40x40 graphics mode. Not too easy to make a game in a couple hours anymore
http://religiousfreaks.com/ ;) -
Here's what I've done...
First and foremost don't believe you have to accept it. Contact the company and keep asking for a supervisor. If he doesn't help, ask for his and keep it up. That works most of the time because they just can't stand dealing with you. If that doesn't work, then write a letter... no email... a real letter. That usually gets a good response. When all else fails, take it to the Net, a lawyer, local media, etc. The key is to not take no for an answer.

All new 3D Shooters are missing one thing...
What ever happened to Co-op mode? That available back in the days of Quake and DN3 and was hugely popular. It was fun battling the computer with a buddy. Then for some reason it just vanished from most titles. I say bring back co-op mode and breathe a little life back in this tired genre.

Just follow a few basic steps...
1. Firefox with popup blocker
2. Firewall software
3. Sit behind router
4. Use AV software
5. Don't click on anything that pops up without read it!

A bit expensive for a Linux laptop?
Not trolling here, but the price does seem high... almost as if the MS tax in in there somewhere. Is there such thing as a Linux tax? Consider the Dell XPS M1210 for $1200.

In other news...
A contract software developer for the CIA was kidnapped and tortured by the CIA. Details to follow.

Doesn't anyone think of the pedaphiles!

Re:Who has the time to watch crappy movies?
Let me edit that for you.
Seriously, with all the crappy movies out there and so little time, why bother. People feel obligated to rent movie from Netflix because they are paying regardless every month. That to me is just stupid unless you're an avid movie watcher. Most people find themselves out of time between reading, surfing the net, etc.

Yea but...
What if the hospital forgets to put the RFID chip in the instrument in the first place. It all comes down to accountability. Just count the damn tools before and after surgery. Seems simple to me. If there was a pliers before you started, then there should probably be one after you're done.
