Re:Not really a true argument
A show like this one? The fans tried. In the case of Farscape, they were able to convince the network to create a miniseries to wrap up loose ends. I'm not optimistic that the Enterprise attempt to do the same will perform as well.
-
Re:Rebuild it all? After a fan FREAK out (see http://www.savefarscape.com), they put some of the sets into storage instead because they were unsure if they were going to bring the show back. Also, detailed pictures of all the sets were taken before hand in case they needed to remake/rebuild anything.
Some stuff was destroyed, if memory serves me right, though.
-
Re:Oh, you had to do it....
You should check it out. Both the mini-series and the actual series (it's still playing on a few sci-fi stations, eg. Space here in Canada).
Farscape was one of the most inventive, colourful and well-produced shows in recent memory.
Speaking as a long-time fan, its main draw-back was that the storyline was often too complex for most people to simply watch a random episode and understand everything (which is why it had troubles finding new fans in the second season). However, if you took the time to actually watched three or four episodes in a row, the story was immensly involving (ie, it drew you in and glued your eyes to the screen week after week).
If you'd like more information about Farscape, be sure to check out the SaveFarscape website. (Yes, believe it or not, hundreds of thousands of fans can actually make a difference to tv-executives...)

Re:Petitions Are Pointless
"DID THINGS".. YES. Elaberate plz
Well, you can visit savefarscape.com and go into their forums to see all the things that the group has done. But I'll give you a short list from memory, some of which I chipped in to pay for (and many others made FAR more impressive donations than I did):
- sent flowers to sci-fi headquarters
- sent boatloads of letters to sci-fi headquarters, too
- purchased TV ads after the last show to promote savefarscape.com
- purchased other TV ads over the course of the last 10 months or so
- purchased ad space on the FRONT COVER of Variety magazine
- networked at sci-fi conventions to help generate new fans of the show
- sent chocolates & gifts (repeatedly) to the show creators & actors
- started an advertiser list, and began emailing any company that ran ads during Farscape, thanking them and making sure to purchase their products
- policing our own, trying to limit the hatemail and rants that typify other hardcore fan movements (you catch more flies with honey and all that)
- a few thousand people actually offered to pitch in about $1,000 US dollars each to finance a movie, but that went nowhere (I think they only accumulated about 3 or 4 million dollars, not enough for a movie, but a really good showing)

Re:reminder about shares
It's OK!!!
I'm not blind or in desperate need of an eyeball polish (mmmmm Claudia Black). On the front page of The Register it says "30 days notice for 30 years business". Thats where it cam from. Yipee!!!
Oh and Save FarScape! -
Re:What is Sci-Fi's core audience?
I'll have to say is:
SAVE FARSCAPE!
Thank you,

Re:Scapers Commercial
According to the Save Farscape Website, the commercial was aired on a city by city basis depending upon the cost and the availability of funding. It wasn't universal.

This is Really Too Bad
FarScape has been a great show and has a very dedicated fan base. You can find out more about the efforts to save it at www.savefarscape.com.
Very nicely put together site with tons of info. -
Call me an optimist
Call me an optimist, but I think the Save Farscape campaign has the ability to bring this thing back. Most likely not on Sci-Fi, but maybe something like showtime. I'd subscribe to showtime for Farscape.
One of the best quotes I can remember about Farscape was something along the lines of "Farscape is a 5-season novel, and we won't rest until we get to find out what happens at the end." That makes this more than a "we want more" campaign. We want the resolution!
I have heard rumors of a Farscape movie. Can anyone post any info on that?
For the record, I never watched farscape until a few weeks ago, now I'm watching it from the beginning, and I think it is a wonderful series. I haven't yet done anything to help the campaign, although I'm thinking about it. I did hang up one of the posters on my door. (his one) -
Re:honestly
maybe there are other reasons behind the cancellation we do not know about, maybe cast wants more money, creative team wants to move on to other projects, actors want to move on.
Maybe you should read the article, read the save farscape campaign site, go to the official farscape website.
Any of those sources will refute your speculations. -
useful info
Save Farscape was created for the explicit effort of saving Farscape. I sure hope it is saved, since it's probably one of the best sci-fi shows in existence. Pretty much all I watch for TV shows are Junkyard Wars, Farscape and Enterprise.

Re:Insert #Farscape.h
One word: Boxy.
Hee hee. Can you picture that thing without laughing? They probably had to dub over laughter from the set. I kept hoping the little boy would get vaporized. Remember that one woman, a radar operator or something, who's only job appeared to be counting down to their doom? And then Adama always looked like he needed some Metamucil.
A friend and I were just yesterday discussing BG euphemism swear words -- I can't remember BG's signature one now, something like frebcolm? Farscape has a much richer pretend vocabulary -- at least, the oaths cut much closer to what the characters really mean!
BG is campy fun, but it's hard to make money off of that. SciFi just wants to draw attention to themselves, get thirty-something loser like me (with disposable income!) to switch over, etc. But the *real* scifi fans have already come, and soon will be gone. Two words: John Edward.
Oh yeah, and they f*cked up cancelling Farscape. So there. Let's make it the SciForgotten network.
Star Trek: The Motionless Picture -- hadn't heard that one, thanks. :) -
No, networks unwilling to take risks
That SciFi would be spinning out a 25 y.o. retread when they have fresh, creative series like Farscape is pathetic. They're wary of anything new, perhaps because one flop can end an executive's career. It is a system designed to smother creativity. Remember that the original Star Trek was almost a 2-season job, then limped to 3.
A friend and I were just discussing BG as a golden example of old hokey TV. What's next, a Fantasy Island remake?
Anyway, I wouldn't blame the production companies that pitch new ideas and are shot down, but the lumbering networks that choose the same formula over and over. Perhaps too one should look at the advertisers. So many acclaimed series are coming out of a private network I don't subscribe to (HBO) that something is going on here. (Sopranos, Band of Brothers, Six Feet Under, Sex In The City, etc. Quick, name equivalent ad-driven TV creations.)
And then, there's always the audience. ST:DS9 was the only one of the modern series to attempt a serious departure from formula, and was not widely accepted by audiences looking for, I suppose, the comfort food of the old style. (It looks like Enterprise is twitching for something new; we'll see if it works; but I'd rather flesh out a whole new universe in the uneven but ingenious Farscape.)
Did I mention I'm pissed at SciFi for dropping Farscape? :) I'm seriously considering boycotting the whole damn network for promoting crap like "Crossing Over With John Edward" in preference to new, innovative series, Stargate being the exception. But should be blame them for reaching for the easy buck? I don't know. -
Brilliant but ... the Internet
I note that "Brilliant but Canceled" was cancelled. (kidding)
The difference here may be the internet. The fan campaign would not be 1% as coordinated, or powerful in recruitment, without I can't even believe I find myself considering writinga letter or giving money to this cause. (See savefarscape.com.)
It's a long shot, but such are often the best shots. And the past may not be prologue. :) -

Re:possibly
Because there is no latest Farscape news there, and the cancellation FAQ is out of date and, for the most part, PR propoganda. For some real up to date news and facts, try savefarscape.com.

Best show ever? IT SUCKEDI even said so when it first aired.
http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=40356&cid=430
1 310My prediction came true too.
:)It just sucked on so many levels I don't know where to start. Oh, wait. The audience was supposed to immediatly get all the tounge and cheek humor etc etc right off the back. I mean after years of watching Buffy it shouldn't be a problem.
Though that was exactly it! It was Buffy in space! Same style of humor, different setting. Why the hell should I waste my time watching this??? I'd rather watch re-runs of the 5th Wheel.
I could write more about this piece of trash but instead I'll write another letter to SCIFI begging them to keep farscape. I'll be sure to mention to them that what's was firefly posing as their competition has decided to take a uh... vacation.

Current Information about Farscape
Currently, there is a massive online campaign going on to save Farscape. You can view it here at Save Farscape and sometimes here due to DNS problems, Save Farscape.
Essentially the current working theory on why Farscape was canceled boils down to this. In Part, Michael Jackson (not the singer obviously) and the head of USA Networks don't like Space shows. The other part, Stargate SG1 only costs around $500,000 per episode to make, where-as Farscape costs around $1,200,000 to make (yes, 1.2 million) per episode. This is why they moved Farscape to 10pm on Friday nights from their original 9pm slot, and put Farscape into the 9pm slot. They ended up losing a good part of their younger audience due to bedtimes. Why? They wanted to get the Farscape fanbase interested in Stargate while intentionally dropping ratings for Farscape. This way they could issue a statement that they are cancelling Farscape due to a slip in ratings, and actually keep the overall ratings with Stargate, all while saving $700,000.
From a business standpoint sure it looks good. But people watch the network, not robots. They get upset and angry when favorite shows of theirs are canceled, especially when there was an announcement they were picking up season 5 and it was in a contract, little be knowns to the public there was a huge out loophole in the contract. So anyhow, if you are a fan of Farscape, head over to those links and see what you can do. -
Farscape
I'm definitely looking forward to Firefly, but that doesn't mean I want to lose Farscape.
Currently, Farscape is still cancelled but is being considered by other networks. Help save the show!
