I block malscript sources
I block malscript sources via hosts files (which do so faster vs. NoScript parsing HTML scriptsrc tags & before a browser OR a script engine even BEGINS to operate in slower usermode by blocking access to said malscript sources albeit in FASTER kernelmode).

Consider this popular story from 2001: https://slashdot.org/story/01/...
The only nerdy part of it is the update that they're having server problems. So slashdot has been posting completely un-nerdy stories for at least 18 years now.

Re:If this hurts Apple's bottom line, it should.
I sympathize with you, but once your current iPhone develops a fatal problem, you won't have much choice. Compared to 20-or-so years ago, only superficial repairs can be done on modern electronics.

Re:We have to expand our networks
Like in vacant land within the city limits
LOL! That land is vacant because the city won't let anything but a small building and a large parking lot be located there!
Nice try though.
Are you also in favor of increasing public transit fares similarly to fully cover the cost of development, operation and maintenance?
Sure, but it's not reasonable to expect that to happen as long as it has to compete with socialism for cars!
Who is forcing anyone to do anything?
I already explained that here.

Re:We have to expand our networks
Suburban sprawl happens because Americans have been conditioned to exercise their "freedom" to spend countless hours of their lives trapped in little wheeled boxes travelling at the breakneck speed of 5 MPH down long strips of asphalt.
Or because I don't care much to live in the noisy city when a large country property is available a 20 minute drive from work. Also the freeway here might slow down to 55 a few times when congested. If I wanted an hour long commute, there is a job 50 miles away that I used to contract for. I wouldn't want to live somewhere that took an hour to drive just ten or twenty miles.
I grew up in the suburbs and went to college in the city. The more time I spent in the city the more I grew to hate it and commuted in on the train rather than live there and ultimately got my own home in the suburbs after graduation. If by "conditioned" you mean "already spoiled by not being forced to grow up in a crowded, noisy place smelling of piss" then I'm happy to be "conditioned".

Re:Before and After
You have that backwards. Trump was the one who made China the boogyman.
Wrong on its face. You're posting on a site that has existed long before Trump. This site was talking about the dark side of dealing with China (and India and a few others) for quite a while.
The whole H1B thing? Started way before Trump
Google's fun with China's censorship laws? Way before Trump
The rise of Uber and its effect on jobs and the economy? Way before TrumpDitto a lot of things people blame Trump for. Trump didn't start those things. Trump just popularized what people have been talking about for a long time.
Take the whole bit about SJWs and anti-SJWs. YOU of all people have been around here arguing about these things before Trump came around.
Here's a comment form you arguing about sexual harassment in 2013.
https://slashdot.org/comments....2013. That's way before Trump, and even before GamerGate that got the anti-SJWs really riled up.

Untrue, not same (I used both extensively)... apk
OS/2 was different & didn't have a 'registry' (well, kind of but not same in ".ini" files BUT NOT TEXT like Windows ones, these were BINARY format iirc (Faster reads that way, & smart but not simple to work with like text)) & configured via config.sys (like DOS) & though NT had a DOS 'subsystem', OS/2 was the one that had a "better DOS than DOS" (both could run multiple instances but iirc, NT has to have a reg setting for SEPARATING Win16 instances into diff. memspace - OS/2 did that off the bat for Win16 subsystem BUILT-INTO it (literally Windows 3.1)). The Workplace Shell OS/2 desktop was a TRUE OOP type desktop - IF I had to describe Win9x or NT? I'd call theirs an "Object Request Broker" @ most/best.
REXX was a scripting language I felt was a LOT MORE POWERFUL than NT had in DOS batchfiles too.
HPFS was the 'default filesystem' (or FAT) on OS/2 - NTFS was on NT (the latter is better though).
I used OS/2 2.0 - 2.1 & Warp 3 (still have the boxes for them all here, staring @ them now) as last ones I used though - things changed since then? Some, in "internetability" (for lack of a better expression)
* I don't mean to "bust your balls" - BUT they were QUITE different (& a lot of what you stated is "right on" though).
(It's been literally 24++ yrs. since I used it last but I should be FAIRLY ACCURATE above (if not, anyone can feel free to correct me/re-enlighten me/refresh me)).
I liked OS/2 a LOT - never got to develop on it though (I was mainly only a rookie programmer back then & didn't have the 'chops' to use Watcom C++ or Borland C++ for OS/2 then (I was still learning & doing character mode/tty term/DOS programs ONLY then, GUI came a year later or so circa 1992-1994 iirc for me (@ least to the point I could say I was 'fairly proficient' @ it)).

Took me awhile, & many times trying Linux (1994 Slackware 1.02, was WAY "rough/crude" & I had no X desktop/gui (no hardware support for my then Diamond Stealth 24 "Windows Accelerator" card - THEN Redhat in 1999 (still rough but BETTER, shitty apps held me back) & like I said 2010 was KUbuntu 10.10 but the "near latest/greatest" in 18.04 HAS ME NOW & I have a feeling that I'll do my BEST WORKS EVER on both Linux & MacOS from now on... *NIX!)

Re:No surprises here
Firefox lost its way long ago.
Really? Then why do I have such a strong preference for it vs Chrome, and why is Firefox my primary browser?
Firefox is still my main browser. It has been since the Mozilla suite 0.8 beta days nearly 20 years ago. I feel like we're just choosing the least worst of the browsers.
Introducing an ad(s) in your browser (even if it was just and experiment) is not cool.
Not being able to turn off annoying update prompts in version 63 was annoying. So was introducing prompts in version 64 to try out extensions and features.
It feels like Firefox has been slowly losing their way. The user should be in control of the browser. Mozilla seems to be slowly taking that ability away little by little.
Also "not cool" are hiding "forced update bombs" inside of Firefox ESR. That crossed a major RED LINE with me regarding Firefox. Firefox no more I say.

Re:Fukushima and fisheries
I note that your attempt to deflect attention from the subject, which is bio-accumulation of radionuclides.
I note your attempt to deflect attention from the subject: Safety of the food chain.
Bio-accumulation of radionuclides in the food chain is real no matter how much Japan suppresses information. That's where we started.
Safety of the foodchain cannot be assured anymore and this problem will continue to get worse until the Fukushima reactors are bought under control.
Good work though. You moved the goal posts so far your original post doesn't make sense anymore. I mean since you only seem to care about bio-accumulation rather than the final safety of what you catch I assume all that stuff about being a rich harvest for Japan is irrelevant, poisoning is irrelevant, and somehow...
There is no "final safety of what you catch". Now you take your chances that Japanese Fisheries and US Agriculture is poisoned with radionuclides from the Fukushima reactor. That is why we need to get proper information and have an international effort to control this ongoing disaster.
Both radioactivity and radionuclides are referenced in the standard that Japan put out.
Do share.
you mentioned your concerns about the food chain several times yet seem to not care about the standards that govern it.
As you have refused to supply a link, when asked, to what you are talking about I can only presume these standards are in your imagination.
Your thought process is truly strange. Have you considered donating your brain to science?
The ad hominem attack is the retort of someone without an argument or capacity to reason. However to answer your question sincerely the brain is only the hardware upon which the mind resides. The reason it is strange to you is because you have been deceived out of your ability to think for yourself so when you see someone able to think for themselves it is a strange and uncomfortable experience for you.
Your "arguments", indeed your entire method of arguing relies on pre-digested ideas that you have picked up from the abundance of propaganda that the Nuclear Industry's PR machine produce to make it easy for useful idiots to waste the time of people who actually can think. Only you can decide if this condition is permanent for you.
I don't blame you for utilizing these conceptual packages however it is a sign that you are easily manipulated out of the pre-conditions for original and critical thought.

Re:No, it's psychological
Most proposals for UBI would fund it by dramatically reducing current entitlements. So someone getting a $1500 social security check, would see it reduced to the "universal" $500 or so. That chance of this being politically feasible: 0%.
An interesting problem indeed. I'll note that as it is an earned entitlement, I don't consider social security to be "welfare". So my default thought is that those on social security would get both payments. Same with disability(though that should maybe be private insurance).
Now, given that SS is heading for insolvency anyways, it needs fixing. So here's my general thoughts, even if they're nasty.
1. Social security payments would need to be reduced. This is to maintain solvency. No more, no less, and is independent of a UBI, it is for the protection of the program itself.
2. SS payments would be taxable under my system. So if you're getting massive income from it, the UBI would be taxed back, as with a regular earner. If you're getting the minimum SS payments, the UBI will help out. -
