Re:Duh.
Well, they also completely missed the question (or rather dropped) the question of whether or not Obama is really even eligible to be president, or that one citizen tried to discover if he was through the courts and got thrown out for "having no standing to bring the lawsuit".
The guy published his freaking birth certificate, what more do you want? If the media covers every half-baked nut-job conspiracy theory, there wouldn't be any time left to find out which drunken celebrity was caught exposing genitalia last weekend. And you do realize that the same question was raised and subsequently not covered for McCain too, right?

Re:Looking from afar...
This is not true.

Please do a little research beforehand.
Read your own research a little more carefully. While it's true that saying Palin "tried to ban books" is an overstatement and the list in that Snopes article is a fabrication, Palin did ask the librarian about the hypothetical possibility of removing certain books from the library, not just once but three times. Each time, the librarian said she would oppose any such request, and Palin told her she would be fired. Those are the facts as confirmed by your own Snopes article.
I think it was reasonable for Palin to ask the librarian about the hypothetical possibility of removing a book from the library. Obviously, Sarah Palin is not the sharpest tool in the shed and isn't particularly well educated, and at this time she had just become Mayor of Wasilla. Asking about it on two other occasions, however, is questionable at best, and attempting to fire the librarian is where she crossed the line.
(By the way, I'm a pro-life Creationist, and I voted for Obama.)

Re:How could 63% of people be wrong?
I think it was just one time in Iowa that Obama failed to put his hand on his heart. Watch and listen to the video on the Snopes page.
Clearly Obama was getting into the singing more than the other candidates and forgot to put his hand on his heart. Honest mistake.

Self-perpetuating point of view, etc.
As a paleontology graduate student trained in both mass extinctions and the geology of climate change [...] current biodiversity crisis and the anthropogenic impact on climate are as true as the theory of evolution.
As a seminary graduate trained in Cosmology and Theology, I am telling you, that the current witchcraft crisis and the devil's impact on the fever-inducing solar eclipse are as true as the Bible. I know it is true, because my professors told me so, and they are all very respected experts in their fields.
I am confused how you have allowed yourselves to otherwise ignore modern science.
Those of us not trained in the "geology of climate change" would've been much easier to persuade, if the proponents of the "anthropogenic effect" were not universally thinly-veiled Leftists with a Che Guevara T-shirt in every closet. There are also counter-examples of the lands going arid, and species (including humans) dying out due to sudden climate changes long before anything, that's blamed for such changes today was invented. And occasional coldest seasons on record in various parts of the world need periodic augmentation of the "global warming" theories. But mostly it is the Leftism of nearly all advocates of the humans' responsibility for the climate change, that leaves me skeptical if not outright convinced in the opposite.
We just have to make our lives slightly less pleasant and be willing to say some things are hands off.
How about we start with the plastic water bottles, uhm? Popularized by fashion models (all of them "concerned about the environment", if asked), the crap is way out of hand. A New York Marathon, for another example, the famous transportation-stalling ritual gathering of professional runners and "environmentally-aware" progressive New Yorkers, consumes 63000 bottles of water, 32000 litters of Gatorade and 130 tons of trash. Not to mention the personal conduct of the most prominent figures of today's climate debate...

Re:clue ?
That's an urban legend.
Not to mention impossible with current linear accelerator tech. First of all, I believe linear accelerators work with subatomic particles as projectiles, so I suspect he was thinking of a rail gun, which requires that the projectile be largely metallic, I believe and (AFAIK) we have none that will propel a 40lb. turkey (frozen or not) at a mere 100MPH. I know the US military has been fooling around with rail guns for years: . The projectile it fires is made of tungsten and weighs about 3.5Kg IRRC, but it moves out at over Mach 7.
I've heard/read a lot of variations on the frozen turkey (often it is described as being a frozen chicken and usually the Brits are claimed to have mimicked the test from what US aircraft manufacturers use to test what happens when an airplane suffers a bird strike while not realizing that the projectile bird was not frozen.
This article about the urban legend and the snippets of truth behind it is one of the best I've seen. Note that the launcher uses compressed air to hurl the bird, much the same way that Hollyweird SFX guys use compressed air powered devices to flip cars all over the place in action movies. -

the consequences....
I'm sending it back although I'm not sure what the consequences of that are.
I can't speak for Euro/UK law but in the US, nobody is required to take a check. There simply are no legal consequences for not accepting a check for payment.
Cash, on the other hand, specifically says, "This note is legal tender for all debts, public and private", so it has to be taken if the service or product has already been provided.
In the US, companies are not required to take coins but they are required to take cash for "services rendered". ie: you've already received the benefit. If the service is not yet rendered, then they/you can negotiate the required terms of payment. But now you're getting into contract law... -

Re:Rock Band before iTunes?
Michael Jackson is still making plenty of money from the Beatles' music. Also, a music publisher has plenty of say as to who can license music that they hold the rights to. This is precisely why we're seeing more and more Beatles' music in commercials for Target, or for use in the Cirque du Soleil. It ain't cause Paul McCartney wants to, it's because Michael Jackson wants some cash.

Re:Why not to vote for Obama:"Contrary to Internet folklore, Dr. Kamerschen is NOT the author of "Tax Cuts: A Simple Lesson in Economics." Additionally, he does NOT know who wrote it."
http://www.snopes.com/business/taxes/howtaxes.asp
Besides, this "barstool" economics lesson grossly oversimplifies our tax system and economy (I doubt the guy at the top is using a 1080EZ to calc his taxes. Deductions, anyone?). Also, it has nothing to do with the war.

Re:Clock can run in reverse.
Just to point out, David R. Kamerschen did not author the essay you quoted, and has no idea who did write it. There's an excellent article on Snopes about this essay and its history.
It's a humorous essay, though I'm sure some real economists might take issue with how it portrays taxation. Regardless, it would be better to not repost something that has been making the Internet rounds and may have landed in your inbox at some point. Although it was pretty damn funny.

Re:Thanks from the reminder
I think Bush Sr. said it best:
Trying to eliminate Saddam, extending the ground war into an occupation of Iraq, would have violated our guideline about not changing objectives in midstream, engaging in "mission creep," and would have incurred incalculable human and political costs. Apprehending him was probably impossible. We had been unable to find Noriega in Panama, which we knew intimately. We would have been forced to occupy Baghdad and, in effect, rule Iraq. The coalition would instantly have collapsed, the Arabs deserting it in anger and other allies pulling out as well. Under the circumstances, there was no viable "exit strategy" we could see, violating another of our principles. Furthermore, we had been self-consciously trying to set a pattern for handling aggression in the post-Cold War world. Going in and occupying Iraq, thus unilaterally exceeding the United Nations' mandate, would have destroyed the precedent of international response to aggression that we hoped to establish. Had we gone the invasion route, the United States could conceivably still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land. It would have been a dramatically different -- and perhaps barren -- outcome.

Re:Thanks from the reminder
...first a draft dodger (Clinton)...
You do realize that Clinton got deferments to attend College, just as Dick Cheney got four deferments to attend College then a hardship exemption when his wife got pregnant. From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Cheney#Vietnam_War_draft
When Cheney became eligible for the draft, he was a supporter of the Vietnam War but did not serve in the military. Instead, he applied for and received five draft deferments. In 1989, The Washington Post writer, George C. Wilson, interviewed Cheney as the next Secretary of Defense; when asked about his deferments, Cheney reportedly said, "I had other priorities in the '60s than military service."[15] Cheney testified during his confirmation hearings in 1989 that he received deferments to finish a college career that lasted six years rather than four, owing to sub par academic performance and the need to work to pay for his education. Initially, he was not called up because the Selective Service System was only taking older men. When he became eligible for the draft, he applied for four deferments in sequence. He applied for his fifth exemption on January 19, 1966, when his wife was about 10 weeks pregnant. He was granted 3-A status, the "hardship" exemption, which excluded men with children or dependent parents. In January 1967, Cheney turned 26 and was no longer eligible for the draft.
What's good for the Goose is good for the Gander...
From: http://www.snopes.com/politics/clintons/felon.aspThat Bill Clinton went to great lengths to avoid the Vietnam-era draft, that he used political connections to obtain special favors, and that he made promises and commitments which he later failed to honor, are all beyond dispute. However, the timeline quoted above jumps the tracks when it labels Clinton a "felon," because none of his actions, no matter how unethical or morally reprehensible, were illegal.

Re:Lets prove this topic once and for all
Every one of the absolute facts cited here, admittedly cited in such a way to make Mr. Obama look very bad, is a real fact you can look up for yourself.
I certainly can't verify most your so-called facts. Many of them actually have been debunked:
http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp
More importantly, even if your allegations were true, they tell you nothing about Obama. Who cares what political or religious persuasion his parents had? What difference does that make to his own beliefs? My parents were Christians, I went to a Christian school with Christian practice, but I was never a "practicing Christian". And I certainly don't share the political beliefs of my parents.
Even if? You still doubt that he was a practicing Muslim? Considering the evidence, including his own damned autobiography, being unwilling to believe it shows you perfectly fit into today's topic.
Actually, you fit in very well into a long history of anti-democratic right wing populists: you try to character-assassinate your opponents with fabrications, lies, and half-truths.
McCain and Palin both have long records of specific actions in their personal and professional lives that are unethical or contradict their stated political philosophies. Obama, on the other hand, reallly embodies what America is all about: he worked hard in order to achieve success, and he cares about his community and gives back.

The obvious answer...
Google got those spam emails back in the early nineties too. Whereas we all just deleted the emails and chewed out our friends for sending them, google took the idea and ran with it. We now have our Beta Email Tracking Application. Does this mean Bill Gates will send Google $1000?
