Re:Space Quest?
yup, this one. I'd really like to see it finished as SQ was my favorite series but I think there were some different circumstances.
There have been a couple other fan made games linked over at spacequest.net and a remake of SQ2 in the works at IA -
Sierra to launch patent infringement lawsuit?
Clearly this is ripped off from Space Quest: "use vaporizer on bin":

SQ4 ref? There was a gag software ad way back in "Space Quest IV" with the same idea.. (imagine the following read aloud in that awesome Gary Owens narrator voice)
Narrator: It's here at last! With a combination of SAI--Simulated Artificial Intelligence--and VRAI--Virtually-Real Artificial Intelligence--we at MaxThis! Software have created a simulated simulator experience that's unlike anything you've ever simulated playing before. With SimSim, you can create a simulated environment in which you can create any simulated environment you want!

A sad state of affairs. While I have to salute the KQ9 team for their graceful acceptance of the end of their project I can't help but think this is just another nail in VU's coffin of respect. First of let me point out that while VU does own the rights to KQ shutting down non profit organizations that operate purley for the enjoyment of gamers is just another way of saying 'we don't care about our gamers unless they pay us for the priviledge'. Even this to some degree is disproved by the lack of patches many of their games need yet never seem to get. Assuming for the moment their reason behind the shutdown is because they may have a sequel coming, there is no reason that one must cancel the other, since i'm sure both could be enjoyed equally.
In addition to KQ9, SQ7 may also be next to come under the axe, although they are apparently in talks with VU and Phoenix Online Studios about this new turn of events. All this being said I hope that VU will come up with a slightly better reason than 'because we said so' since it only encourages people to see VU as another namless corporation that is more concerned with grinding out endless titles for the sake of money. At the end of the day however VU is, as VU does, and it seems it will continue to follow the Microsoft creed of 'if its original, buy it up and make more money'.

Making sure I see my role in this...
Ok.. Let me make sure I understand this correctly..
I maintain a few domains, such as a Sq7.org, from which I send e-mail.. I send it from home, from my girlfriends house, from wherever I happen to be.. But I send it by connecting through the sq7.org server, and forwarding mail through there.
The way I understand SPF, I just need to publish that the IP sq7.org runs on is authorized to send Sq7.org's mail, and NOT the IP for my home, office, etc, since I don't send directly from the local computer.
If I did send directly from the local computer, without going through the external server, I'd need to add my local IP to the SQ7.org DNS records.
As it is, though, I'll need to avoid using my ISP's SMTP servers if mine go down, or add them to the domain.
Am I understanding this right?

Open Source games, and Gathering Artists
In my opinion, the hardest part is getting good Artists. I run the open source SQ7.org game project, and we're doing some exciting stuff. We're doing fully voice acted, 3d rendered, interactivty, or a large scale.
While we've always have plenty of programming help (not that we couldn't use more..), I've found that getting 3d graphic artists is amazingly difficult..
Programmers tend to discover the site on their own, or read my sig in Slashdot, and help to volunteer to bring together a project like that. Programming types Rock.
But Graphical Artists tend not to do that, and I'm not sure how to attract them.. I've tried posting to 3d forums, Offering to pay the few bucks I can each month.. But I've never really gotten as much as I need. The people I have are Great, and we're doing some pretty damn cool artwork, but we need more help.
How do other people solve this problem? Can anyone give any advice on how to get their attention? Adwords on Google?

I wonder...
How long before this project gets shutdown because of copyright or trademark violations?
Same applies to the Fan-Made Sequel. -
Remaking old, cool adventure games
I really wish they would start (re)making some cool adventure games
While not a 3D remake, some people are remaking classics using the freeware Adventure Game Studio (AGS). King's Quest I and II have been redone (very well I might add) by Tierra Entertainment (and they're working on Quest for Glory II), and there's a fan-made Space Quest 7 in the works as well as a fan-made Quest for Glory 6.
The Adventure Genre LIVES!

Concerns re: Trusted Computing
One of the most interesting posts I've seen regarding this subject was found at Microsoft.com
I'd love to hear how you'd address some of the points he brings up in the article.
In case the site goes down, or is changed, I've mirrored it at sq7.org/media/ms.html

An Independant SQ7?
Looks as though some fans are also intending to release a version of Space Quest VII
http://www.sq7.org/about.php
It also gives a good bit of detail about why there haven't been any recent games in the series.
