I've been wondering why it is
that I see tech almost completely dominated by people here on work visas, to the point where companies have completely shut down their training departments because they don't have to train anymore. There's not enough H1-Bs to fill that many positions. The program is big and corrupt but not that big and corrupt.
Thing is, I don't see anything changing. Folks voted for Trump because he said he'd stop all this crap, and now he supports TPP, DACA, and literally told his supporters he wanted workers to come in and do your jobs. Meanwhile Bernie Sanders, the one politician who could have put the brakes on this crap, couldn't even get enough support to overcome a little back stabbing from his party (which let's remember Trump easily did).
What we need is folks to stop giving a crap about pointless shit (Guns, Abortion, Gay Marriage, you know, wedge issues) and pay attention to the economy. But good luck with that. -
Re:not in N.C.
I applaud you sir! You have, in your mind, defined the problem so narrowly that you are only willing to see evidence that cannot possibly exist. You must've been paying attention in Gaslighting 101.
I assure you that only diehard fanatics like yourself obsess over whatever activity you specifically define as "voter fraud". Most of us humans, however, are gravely concerned about honest and fair elections, and the threats are many, including voter fraud, election fraud, and whatever other forms of fraud could possibly interfere.
Florida (Note that the response to this was to send out 173,000 more blank ballots.
Anyone that cares to spend a little time searching can probably find similar stories from nearly any state. Oh, and of course the Project Veritas Action videos show people discussing the mechanics of successful fraud, clearly from a position of personal knowledge.
Keep in mind that a lot of this fraud is very hard to prove. In nearly every story, the people involved protest their innocence. Bank robbers caught in the act tend to do that too, of course, as do innocent people. A year from now, we'll know the extent of the fraud that was caught and prosecuted, and maybe have an idea of the fraud that was caught, but not prosecuted, and absolutely no idea how much fraud was not caught.

Re:Freedom to discriminate == no protection ...
You clearly didn't read the law, or have no clue about law. Actually, it doesn't. It allows you to claim 1st amendment. Not that you'd win.
I'm a white guy. I was refused service, in Maryland just last weekend. I simply moved to another shop. What's the big deal? Gays don't get to shove their homosexuality down someone else's throat? Make someone else do something they don't want to? How would you like it if someone used the force of government to make you do something you didn't want to? Why are you arguing for them to be able to do that?
You have no clue what you're talking about, that's why. Here's the law, not that you'll read it: http://www.indystar.com/story/...
I happen to live in Indianapolis, and not only have I read (and understand) the article you mention (and many more), but I have read the excellent follow up article in the Star, which has an analysis of the differences between the Federal RFRA and the Indiana RFRA that not only proves everything I am saying, bug is also backed up with the opinion of experts on both sides of the issue more schooled in the law than either of us. Not to mention things like the letter to Gov. Pence signed by FIVE former Governors of Indiana, and another one signed by the CEOs of nine major Corporations admonishing him to stop ruining the State for some political coin.
And when the original sponsor of the Federal RFRA says that the Indiana Law is different in important (and dangerous) ways than the one he championed (and which he and Obama both supported), then you best listen. -

Isn't Saudi Arabia an ally of the US?
Also, have a look at some of the things happening in your own country:
Passengers Cheer as Trans Woman is Stripped and Beaten on Atlanta Train (with video) (May 31, 2014)
Abortion Clinic Escort Opens Up About 'Disgusting, Degrading And Racist' Attacks On Patients (February 21, 2014)
Sikh (mistaken for a Muslim) attacked by racist mob, thanks Good Samaritans who got between him and his hate-filled attackers (after getting his jaw was surgically re-wired) (September 23, 2013) Transgender Woman Dies After Beating in Front of NYPD Precinct (August 26, 2013)
Police: Man damaged Bloomington Planned Parenthood building, cited religious beliefs (April 11 2013)
Please note that I don't support any repressive regimes or groups that enforce FGM or promote sexist behaviours, I am just pointing out that the US is not a shining example of tolerance and social liberties...it would be best if the US focused on sorting out her own problems before pointing fingers at others. Also, thanks for liberating Afghanistan, freeing the Afghans of the nasty Soviet puppet government and delivering them into the hands of the Al-Quaeda and the Taliban is highly appreciated by the entire world! -
Re:It's been tried
Screening by airline personnel was the standard prior to 9/11. It wasn't clearly better.
I know the Internet helps to spread stories around a lot more today than they would've been pre-9/11, but I don't remember horror stories about airport screening being the everyday sort of thing that they are today. I never remember hearing a story about rape victims being sent to the ER after going through airport screening or security agents helping to disperse the ashes of dead relatives all over the security checkpoint. I find it utterly sad that I am in no way surprised that there are currently over 9000 (humor not intended) results in Google for "colostomy bag tsa", with a good number of them reporting on unique incidents spread out across a number of years. In fact, if anything, I'm surprised there are only that many.
And yet you think that the old screening wasn't clearly better than what we have today? I'll take a little more risk if it means getting my dignity back.

Re:Due Process
If they were B&M stores, at minimum the suspected counterfeit merchandise would have been confiscated. Earlier this year such a thing happened around the Super Bowl here with counterfeit jerseys and other NFL apparel. If the entire store was counterfeit, the store would be effectively shut down.
In essence, due process is being followed the same way for the domain as it does with a B&M store. It's taken a wile previously, but domains that were mistakenly taken were eventually returned. I know that isn't any consolation to a business that was shut down for days/weeks/months/years. But could a independent B&M store survive all their inventory being confiscated indefinitely either?

Re:Fair's fair.
Uhh, Amazon is operating one or more facilities in Indiana now: http://www.theindychannel.com/money/27824383/detail.html
..so good on Indiana for holding them to the same rules to which they hold other mail-order operations.Amazon tried and got away with this shit in South Carolina - they scored a sales tax exemption despite setting up operations in the state:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/12/09/amazon-warehouse-spartanburg-county_n_1140145.htmlNow, why does Amazon get sales tax exemption with their nexus in the state, yet other mail order operations do not get sales tax exemptions? This is pure and simple government-corporate corruption, and only the small guy loses.

Re:Incoming bitchy comments... 3.. 2.. 1
Name a SINGLE THING I said that was in ANY way false. Do you know who Grover Norquist is? If not you better learn, because he is the guy famous for saying "Get the government small enough you can drown it in the bathtub and he is currently the darling of the teabagger crowd.
You see he is going through the halls of Washington carrying this "No new taxes evar!" pledge and over 60% of the teabaggers have already signed up. Now since we all saw what happened to Bush SR when he did his "read my lips" and flip flopped those that sign his pledge will NEVER vote to raise a cent, it would be suicide.
Now considering the fact that Netflix DVD by mail business depends on a functioning postal service and that the USPS is closing hundreds of facilities just to survive another year YOU TELL ME, how is Netflix supposed to keep DVD by mail afloat? Are they gonna send them by carrier pigeon? Are they gonna hike their rates AGAIN to pay for the increases?
Because as I just told you and gave you a link for the ultra right is signing a "no new taxes evar!" pledge which means the USPS is fucked. So lets hear it, you tell me, how is Netflix supposed to work with their rates for deliveries increased and many post offices just gone all together?

Another Indy Linkhttp://www.theindychannel.com/news/27056084/detail.html
"You want to know who is responsible? JEFF MILLER. He is the most greedy man I've ever known," a commenter identified as Indeed posted on the IBJ's site.
"If you accuse somebody of committing a crime of thievery, that is defamation, and we believe that is what they are saying," said Miller's attorney, Kevin Betz. "The Internet is not a license to defame people and treat them in a mean-spirited way that harms them psychologically and economically."[BR]
If the CEO is maintaining he is not responsible for the funds not being used right; then, I think he needs to be sued for being very stupid. The person at the top is always responsible for the acts of undertaken by people employed by the company. The rest (" most greedy") is an opinion and can NOT be grounds for lawsuits in nearly all cases.

Re:I feel anger.
You're right about most of what you wrote, although it's generally just not done to fly transplant candidates on commercial flights because of the possible exposure to germs and their weakened immune systems. Commercial lines do sometimes fly people with other conditions as corporate charity and certainly have no problem with putting people with those other conditions on a standby list and then watching for any opportunity to squeeze them in.
We're actually getting to the point where charity medical transportation isn't a problem even outside the Continental US. (But we're not completely there yet - see the bottom link for more on something that could set things back).
I'm on my church's outreach committee. We regularly donate to two different charities, both specifically about flying medically needy people to the right hospitals and surgical centers. We know several of the pilots, we know what sort of equipment they need, and we see their corporate books enough to be highly confident the money we donate is actually working. The reason we're supporting two different charities is one is focused on the continental US, the other on Haiti and the surrounding area.
All this argument before someone pointed out that you don't have to be rich to get a priority medical flight got me curious, just how many people got their flights this year and how many didn't. Turns out our donations so far (as of June), have been equivalent to 14 average flights, with a total of about 19 patients. While the CONUS based group has a bit higher success rate for the patients once delivered, both of them can boast that the surgical success rate for these patients once delivered is over 70% (remember, they are dealing with transplant cases, advanced cancers, and such, where there are going to be rejection issues, or the doctors discover an inoperable tumor after they open the patient, or other such events put a definite cap on absolute success rates). Both groups think they are meeting the needs of at least 6 cases out of 10 on the first try. (Remember transplant cases may be very time critical, but for some other situations, such as wanting to go while a particular surgical team is available, there often IS some leeway to reschedule). It would still be nice to get that up to 80% or more.
I'm not going to give a link to either of the charities I mentioned, because I want to highlight a bigger problem.
"Fees Could Ground Charity Medical Flights"
"FAA Proposes More Fees For Pilots"Here's a link to how one Indiana based medical rescue flight charity views newly proposed charges for calls to the local towers about runway conditions, weather and other such information. This bunch seems to be using more really small planes and doing relatively short haul flights, and they see these proposed changes as critical. I suspect the charities we sponsor will muddle through, maybe with some degradation of service, but it's likely to hit some local scale services harder, as the article shows.

Tinfoil Hat Time!
I live in the US State of Indiana, and on Friday morning, in amongst the rah-rah DTV ads, was ONE lonely ad that noted that if you lived in a list of about a dozen Indiana counties, you could expect NO SIGNAL AT ALL when the switchover occurred. here's an article listing at least 7 Indiana counties affected. Curiously, some of the Counties are in Northern Indiana, which is FLAT AS A PANCAKE, so what's with the "terrain" excuse?
I find it highly suspicious that that ad was:
1. Not aired until the DAY OF the transition
2. Not aired until AFTER President Obama publicly stated "There will be no more delays."
3. Was only aired ONCE (that I saw at least, watching for about 5 hours on the same channel that aired it) (meeting the legal requirements for "notice", but obviously intended to provide "notice" to as FEW people as possible).
I'm sorry, but a large chunk of American Taxpayers were instantly relegated to TV purgatory on Saturday, WITH NO SOLUTION OR EVEN A BACKUP PLAN IN SIGHT. -
