I'm @PinoBatch.
But this list mentions Erris, Mactrope*, gnutoo, inTheLoo, willeyhill*, westbake*, Odder*, ibane, DeadZero, freenix, myCopyWrong, right handed, GNUChop, trimmer, and wiiiyhiii*. Or, rather, Twitter uses them. All of them. And this Twitter can post more than 140 characters.

It Remains a Journalism Scandal. Deal With It.
The cover-up didn't work.
The week-long gaming press news blackout and user comment/forum censorship didn't work.
The coordinated, ongoing smear campaign that began with the "Gamers are over" articles hasn't worked.
The doxxing and harassment of pro-GG folks hasn't worked.
The endless train of embarrassingly desperate counter-hashtags hasn't worked.
The Wikipedia and Nightline hit pieces only destroy those outlets' credibility for short-term effect.
Last week PC Gamer became the latest games journalism site to update its ethics policy in the wake of Gamergate, joining IGN, the Escapist, and of course Kotaku/Gawker (though in Gawker's case, they put up more of a fight and the Gamergate pressure to be ethical had to be routed through the FTC). And there are probably more I'm forgetting.
Gamergate also got Brad Wardell (CEO of Stardock) some long-overdue apologies for hit pieces run against him:
https://twitter.com/iamDavidWi... [twitter.com]
http://www.gamepolitics.com/20... [gamepolitics.com]
http://www.zenofdesign.com/in-... [zenofdesign.com]
Ask yourself how much of this you've seen reported in the corrupt media (which at this point, sadly, clearly includes Slashdot). The anti-GG side thrives only in an environment of propaganda and censorship, and evaporates when faced with integrity and transparency. They prove the need for Gamergate every time they write an article based on the assumption that terrorism and child porn^W^W^W^W misogyny and harassment have become the root passwords to the Constitution^W^W journalistic ethics. -

Re:Makes sense.
Google doesn't control deployment of fixes or updates, your service / hardware provider does.
Besides, Android is the very *definition* of "open", so you can always fix 4.3 yourself... right? right?
Here's the thing: Google doesn't give a SHIT about the consumer, except insofar as they continue to use Google's "free" products to provide Google with a) advertising targets; and b) personal data to allow them to fine-tune their targeted advertising. That's why Google has let the carriers control everything they way they have - Google has enabled the systemic abuse of hundreds of millions of consumers because it helps their bottom line. The carriers are perfectly happy to do this, since it also helps the carriers' bottom lines.
I can't wait for the day when Android is classified as a Trojan.
-
Re:And you believe the BS story???
The only way hydraulic fluid can be "used / lost" is if the vehicle had a major rupture in a hydraulic fluid line
True only if the hydraulic system is closed. Apparently that's not the way it's done in rocketry: "Chris (Robotbeat) (see robotbeat@ comment).
and that will affect the landing gear (only item that can potentially use hydraulic fluids)
The grid fins are hydraulically actuated.

Sure, Let's Investigate
It is
/. and the EFF who are too, uh, "lazy" (yeah that's the ticket) to investigate the actual harassment. Once again, a Slashdot article makes reference to Gamergate in the context of harassment, but all the victims mentioned just happen to be on the anti-GG side. I'm beginning to have doubts that this is an honest mistake.
Pro-GG people have been doxxed:

So was the creator of #notyourshield, and his workplace was harassed until he was fired:

A prominent anti-GGer called for the doxxing of all Gamergate supporters:

An article that claims to know all about Gamergate appears completely ignorant of the majority of relevant harassment, not to mention the Harassment Patrol. At least the pro-GG side makes an effort to detect, condemn, and report this shitty behavior, no matter which side it comes from. -

Re:That is not doxing
Do you need that? Seems very specific. I was generally referring to those groups that are opposed to the likes of 4chan and 8chan. I guess I can use google to find some harassment by anti-gamergaters if you really want it.
Milo Yiannopoulos receives a dead animal,
Threatening phone calls
One person claims to have been fired, and another had someone complain to their boss
Threats against a gamergater's family
Quite honestly I find the whole thing depressing. #Gamergate has a lot of people talking about corruption in the games industry, but way too many of its members fixated on loud, pointless people. Anti-gamergate has this bizarre conspiracy theory that somehow 4chan, 8chan, and a large number of female and ethnic minority gamers, journalists and even a few outspoken feminists are working together in the cause of "misogyny", for its own sake.
People with a political agenda have grabbed both sides of the debate and made it about unrelated political issues. -

TFA mentions Gamergate in the context of the doxxing but all the victims mentioned just happen to be on the anti-GG side (innocent mistake, I'm sure).

Re:So let's get this straight
> They'll suspend the accounts of people like Milo Yiannopoulos for holding the wrong views on things like GamerGate
Yeah, that dude is totally suspended. Comparing an automated suspension that lasted for a couple of hours until a human sorted it out to what Sony's demanding is more than a little disingenuous. Either that or it is an example of how just how poor your grasp on reality is.

Re:did they DMCA any non-business emails
The emails mentioned in TFA appear to be business emails from Sony people. Did they send a DMCA notice about any personal emails? Did I miss that somewhere?
"Other e-mails that Broeksmit published, and Sony objects to, include ones that describe Brad Pitt's reaction to certain movie cuts". If you read the email (God forbid), it seems the content is somewhere in-between personal and private and 80% of it is summarizing an email/text/conversation/whatever that, if anything, would be copyrighted by Brad Pitt (as another post notes, third parties emailing them would be the third party's copyright).
Regarding perjury, the DMCA doesn't say that any erroneous or improper notice is perjury. The perjury clause refers to identifying yourself. If I were to send a DMCA notice about content owned by Dice, claiming to be a representative of Dice, that claim that I am Dice's representative would be under penalty of perjury. I'd be in trouble because I'm not actually a representative of Dice.
Which is precisely my point. Sony Pictures is going to have a hard time claiming the copyright on some or all of the content. Even cherry picking emails, it'll be difficult. I mean, if someone issued a takedown notice on this comment, would you have a say in it because I'm quoting your words in part or whole? It seems that, especially if the takedown is meant to blot out what a third person said then that's fishy at best and at worst does fall into the realm of misrepresentation, as I don't think Sony Pictures can be said to represent Brad Pitt--his agent could.
Any other deficiency in a DMCA notice is likely to be grounds for a civil suit, only, based on damages. It might be tortiuous interference, for example. It wouldn't be perjury.
Right, which is why I mentioned about being sued anyways. It just wouldn't be something risking jail time.

Gamergate is Worthier, and the Editors Know It
Nah, Sarkeesian was a hack before the whole gamer gate thing even started.
Gamergate itself has clearly done more good than Sarkeesian ever hoped to.
It exposed nepotism and collusion in games journalism.
It got Brad Wardell (CEO of Stardock) some long-overdue apologies for hit pieces run against him.
https://twitter.com/iamDavidWi...
http://www.gamepolitics.com/20...
http://www.zenofdesign.com/in-...
Oh, you didn't hear about that? Well, I guess the same corrupt media (and the mainstream media, in turn) didn't report it, so, like whoever's in charge of Slashdot, we should pretend it never happened. You know, the same way we pretend that Snowden did no good because the corrupt NSA (and the Executive and Congress in turn) never acknowledged it.
And it's forcing Gawker to revise its policies to comply with updated FTC guidelines, which the FTC acknowledges came about because of Gamergate's OperationUV.
Damn, look at all these journalists, forced to be ethical against their will. If the media ever covers it, they'll probably invent some new term for the headlines, like "Ethics Rape." -

Re:For fuck's sake people...
He's not even really an outspoken liberal or anything.
Well, I do remember this:
In Walmart, America's largest gun seller, you can buy an assault rifle. But company policy bans pop music with curse words. - Neil DeGrasse Tyson
For someone who makes a living communicating science to the public (and doing an excellent job of it, imho), it does seem a bit wrong to wade into the gun-law debate with a technically-inaccurate tweet. (Assault rifles are illegal for private ownership in the US, and Walmart doesn't sell them.) And I'm saying this as someone living in a country with stricter gun legislation than the US, and happy about it.

I get the geek/gamer stereotype, but have you seen any of the big esport teams? Sure, there are a few heavy-set gamers; but for the most part they are pretty skinny or at least average looking at the professional level. Check out the team portrait for Na'Vi (one of the top DOTA2 teams), the several LCS teams, or Bajheera (one of the most viewed WoW streamers). Geek shaming should be a thing of the past.

Re:My sister's books are part of this part of this
I met Elizabeth in the UK at a book conference just before the London Book Fair. She was super enthusiastic about the idea of bundling she literally marched me over to the Granta booth at the book fair and sat me down with her publisher and explained the idea and said (to her publisher) "do this now". Honestly it was a totally amazing experience to see an author so excited about what we're doing.
The only other author who's ever been so excited about doing this has been Joe Hill (Stephan King's son). Joe found out about what we were doing on twitter after he mentioned that he thought you should get the ebook free if you buy the hardcover. Somebody tweeted back at him and he download the app on the spot and used it on Ellen Datlow's Fearful Symetries which he happened to have in his pocket (at the time the odds of a randomly selected book working in BitLit were about 1 in 10,000... so we got lucky). He got pretty excited about the idea and twisted HarperCollins' arm into letting us give away a free ebook copy of Heart-Shaped Box to everybody who owned the print version. He also went on to say some nice things about what we're doing. -

Re:Shocking!
24 supports fascism?
Of course, 24 doesn't suport fascism. Actually, I don't think that the producers know what facism is at all, judging from the story.
It's only an outrageus plot that wants to demonstrate that the USA has no problem in torturing and killing people who's innocence is not quite clear. Or, where it's known. But, there -- according to the series plot, the hero is the hero because he's not hindered by those pesky human rights. Let's kill those bastards!! Actually, 24 is the perfect serieis to demonstrate what's wrong with the current US society. That people think this series is cool is an abonimation. They should go to an hospital to be treated for mental illness.
24 is, clearly, a movie-series / Hollywood fiction, with no backing in the real world.
Oh, wait, no. Bush/CIA/Cheney has something do to with current revelations.
That you don't see the connection of the current revelations to your country's slow sliding into fascism is a sad singular report on the state of affairs. The rest of the world watches; the USA and other similar-minded terrorist states act and show their colors.
