Mental Breaks in scientific and space missions
NASA and the Russian space agency are unaware of a problem discovered and solved forty years ago that will cause mental breaks and fights on long term space missions. There have been mental breaks on scientific missions for over a hundred years including a mass insanity event on the Belgian Polar Expedition of 1898. None of the leaders of these expeditions and scientific missions have been aware of Subliminal Distraction. They did not know how to provide Cubicle Level Protection or warn astronauts/expedition members about this problem. Subliminal Distraction, a normal feature of human physiology, is explained in college psychology under the physiology of sight and hearing. Acoustic SD is believed to be a fatiguing factor in business offices. The mental breaks of Visual SD are believed to be a harmless temporary episode of confusion. The Cubicle was designed to deal with the vision startle reflex to control the problem by 1968. There was a full psychotic break on a Russian space mission, Soyuz-21, and a hatchet murder in a Russian Antarctic station. Tax emails
I would favor a tax or some other method of stopping useless spam.
I have a research project and emails are almost useless because spam filters must be so high.
A fraction of a cent tax would hit massive emailers hard. Finding email addresses spam would allow blocking.

Subliminal Distraction causes violence
Passing laws to limit the sale of violent video games will not stop that violence. The problem is the location where the game is played. When you do anything requiring concentration to a level of slight dissociation while there is repeating detectable movement in peripheral vision, you risk exposure from Subliminal Distraction.
For forty years designers have used Cubicles to prevent small mental breaks for knowledge workers in crowded offices. When a home computer is in the family room or near a door to other parts of the home family members walking beside the computer user create the same design problem that caused the 1960's office problem.
Using a hand held game machine allows use in locations that create the same design problem.
This problem should be the warning on game CD's. In fact all soft ware and computers should have the same warning.
The Virginia Tech shooter was described with behaviors that would have caused exposure from Subliminal Distraction. He had increased the behavior in the month before the shooting.
What did he do? He sat in the common room studying while the other suite members walked around him. He used a laptop there. It does not matter what you do with the computer; reading the screen for comprehension creates the slight dissociation necessary to engage your peripheral vision warning system. Psychotic Break Room
Strange, I'm surprised that no one has mentioned PVPS; "Peripheral Vision Psychosis Syndrome". Evidently, when you see approaching objects in your peripheral vision, your brain perceives that as a threat and is supposed to respond in kind. Open offices conditioned workers' brains to "shut off" this instictive behavior. Suddenly - during the late 50s~60s I believe - office workers started having mental breakdowns for no apparent reason. The cube was supposed to alleviate that.
But then again, try telling that to Milton...

True cause of game violence
Violence created contemporaneously with and containing elements of computer game play is not caused by the game or game content.
There is evidence, (scattered), in the record that the problem is one of a conflict of human physiology that was discovered in the 1960's.
Designers and engineers building the first close-spaced office workstations were surprised when knowledge workers using them began having mental breaks. The problem was that Subliminal Sight and Peripheral Vision Reflexes had operated in those "special circumstances" to cause the mental breaks. The Cubicle solved that problem beginning in 1968.
Those professionals thought they had caused the problem for the first time. The episodes, nervous breakdowns, pseudo psychosis, they saw were temporary and resolved without treatment. But "Cabin Fever," 1830's, Jumping Frenchmen of Maine Disease, 1880's, and an incident aboard the Belgica on the Belgian Polar Expedition of 1998/99 demonstrate the phenomenon can cause severe psychiatric problems and violence. In those cases there were no computers but many people living together in a single-room arrangement allows the "special circumstances" to be created and maintained long enough to cause exposure to Subliminal Distraction.
The suicide death of Shawn Woolley was another example of this. I have an email from Ben Stein that reveals there was a source of repeating detectable movement beside Tommy Stein as he played Everquest. Both game players were featured on a "48Hours Investigates" broadcast in 2002.
Placing a computer workstation in a location that has repeating detectable movement in Subliminal Peripheral Vision will cause exposure. Culture Bound Syndromes, from the DSM, track violent episodes around the world. They are called Amok in Malaysia, Iich'aa among the Navajo, and Going Postal in the US. These episodes happen where single-room living and working situations can cause the special circumstances to be created.
Legislators would be better served to demand Cubicle Level Protection information be included in school curriculums.
The Redlake school shooter left a journal entry describing an activity he had that would have caused exposure to Subliminal Distraction.
