beats-daisy-duke-posters ???
Come on now, you can't be serious... you have truly fallen to the Dark Side of geek when you think some laptops on a wall beats this:

Pure american muscle, the classic Dodge Charger, and 100% american beauty, Jessica... I'll leave that on my wall, thanks very much, and I'm Canadian! -
Re:Wallpaper
Have you seen 'The Devil's Advocate'? I wan that moving wallpaper of naked people, sans les males. Mmm. Wallpaper of moving women.
Concept art (shows nothing of the wall but has a good explanation of the wall) -

"Processors", not "power supply"
When Morpheus said they believe the Matrix uses people as a power source for the machines, I thought "Lisa! In this house we obey the laws of thermodynamics!", but on their web site I found a more coherant explanation, written by Neil Gaiman.
Unfortunatly, they discarded the better writer's explanation and went ahead with their sillyness in the sequels. But you can still read the short story (it's on the first DVD, too). -
Re:Don't believe the naysayers ...
Here's a link to my own impressions of the game after giving it a fair amount of my time.
-
Re:It's the hardware...Well it's not a book, but there is an interesting article about sleep and how it relates to the Matrix. It's by Andy Clark...
Might you be able to recommend a good book (or journal) on sleep for a scientifically literate non-specialist?

Re:video training
Yeah, it is a tad tough not to manage a project perfectly when you've got Donald "I never employed you but I can fire you" Trump breathing down your back.
Speaking of those apprecticeses (as Ellen calls them), I'd manage Audrey's projects anytime. To quote Greg Roelofs, "yowza!"

Finally!
Now Stan Lee can spend his money to develop what he always wanted - an underground lair to fight crime from, complete with cool car, neat gadgets, and a butler to watch out for him.
Oh. Wait. Maybe that's someone else. -
Re:It's a stunt...
As you post this, those stories are on the front pages of CNN.com and MSNBC.com, and the forehead story wasn't. Just some perspective... You don't have to eat anything you're "fed"... What exactly are you complaining about?
I agree about having to look for real news. I find news on my own. As predicted though, Channel 10 here in Sacramento ran their blurb for their 10PM news with the forehead story. This is the type of news most americans see. I'm complaining about fluff being the selling point. I agree with a previous replier (is that a word?) that It's what the public asked for and it's what they're given for the most part - even when it's not what they want or even real news. The public isn't out there marking a checklist of newsworthy items to report on - that's decided for them. Remember the stories about there being so many stories about the OJ trial? I have seen "news" about "news" being on the "news" more and more often ever since. If that wasn't a symptom of something being broken... Maybe we're heading torward an age of media mainly only reporting on media. Oh wait... -

Quote from B5 on Importance of Colonizing Space
From the Babylon 5 television series, Capt. John Sheridan:
"Ask ten different scientists about the environment, population control, genetics and you'll get ten different answers, but there's one thing every scientist on the planet agrees on. Whether it happens in a hundred years or a thousand years or a million years, eventually our Sun will grow cold and go out. When that happens, it won't just take us. It'll take Marilyn Monroe and Lao-Tzu, Einstein, Morobuto, Buddy Holly, Aristophanes
.. and all of this .. all of this was for nothing unless we go to the stars." (Infection, season 1, ep. 4) -
release the Phantom!
The Phantom is innocent, I tell you! Some villain has framed the Phantom - I don't know who it was, but once he's free, the Phantom won't rest until he has uncovered the devious plot and cleared his name. You must release the Phantom!

Re:What about
What about Wile Coyote? He's always concocting something new (chemistry) or designing/building some new device (engineering). This is good science. He never gives up.

Re:Pick one.
The Matrix (set before the movies). You could play a human or an AI.
Uh, you know it's coming out this year, right?.
And it's set after the movies, which doesn't matter, since the events of the films changed NOTHING... (Incidently, the game's timeframe was announced before Matrix Revolutions came out, which was a spoiler)
Lovecraft. "Hey, let's go raid R'Lyeh and gank Cthulhu!"
Better if you play as alien monsters... manifest temporary physical forms on earth to hunt mortals, seeking to devour either flesh or mere sanity. MMORPG players like to be powerful and immortal, and to be outnumbered by slow, weak opponents. So Lovecraft entities would be perfect player classes. -

Re:They will sell them...
World of Warcraft does not have much in the way of player-vs.-player (only limited opt-in between the two different sides), while the Matrix Online promises a lot more. To quote from the respective FAQs:
(WoW) What type of PvP will you offer?
We know that the player vs. player (PvP) option is very important to many gamers. Therefore, we plan to incorporate a form of player conflict into the World of Warcraft. However, players who do not wish to be participate in PvP combat will not be required to do so. The PvP system will be incorporated in a consensual way that will be fun for those who wish to take part in this form of combat. Announcements regarding PvP options in the World of Warcraft will be announced in the months ahead.
(MXO) Is the game only for players to play against other players (PvP)?
The Matrix Online includes PvP, for players who choose to play against other players, but there are plenty of computer-controlled characters in the missions to fight against as well. Player-vs.-player is a particularly intense style of gameplay. However, unlike some games, you needn't play PVP exclusively. You can choose to alternate between fighting other players or taking missions against non-player characters.

what the hell is Qui-Gon Jinn doing in Batman??
Seriously, this is not right. I mean, that outfit looks way too much like what he wore in Episode 1, as if I need those memories to come back...

Re:Ok...No, that's not true. Look at the official site, and you'll notice a DC Comics logo on the bottom of the screen.
C'mon, how many normal people know (much less care) that Catwoman's real name is Selena Kyle? This isn't Bruce Wayne or Clark Kent. The *point* of Catwoman is that she's a hot chick who goes around in a dominatrix outfit. The movie was faithful to the heart of the comics.

Liam NeesonHe's back, and he's once again the dashing Jedi Knight ready to kick some serious sith ass.
I fear Mr. Neeson has now been permanently typecast, or maybe they couldn't afford a new wardrobe so they asked him to bring his Jedi robe. Just grow a beard, Liam you old fruit. You'll be fine, lad. Just fine. No one will recognize you. What? No, no lightsaber. Put the ghastly thing away. Thanks.

Re:what
So does batman drive in the city or crunch over cars like a monster truck???
Pshaw, Batman wouldn't drive a monster truck. It is clearly a formula 1 car with oversized wheels being swallowed by a squashed tank.

As long as they wear......AS long as they wear tight fitting clothes, have whips, and basically look like Catwoman or Sandra Bullock all will be well.
Maybe I'll misbehave a little to get some "punishment"

Be careful
Avoid frauds and unrealistic expectations.
Understand the risks, ans assume much worse odds than you are told. If you're still up for it, go on. If you aren't sure, wait. It keeps getting better and safer, you know.
Good luck! -
Trivia about the sequels: "The Burly Man"
Actually, "The Burly Man" was the name the Reloaded+Revolutions production had while they were filming it. The reasons for this fact are beyond me, since the sequels had already been announced and everyone [who cared about it] knew where it was going on. And it's not as if you could keep a secret on a movie with 10 mins of credits anyway.
Want proof? It's mentioned in this article from Wired, appears on this crew-exclusive T-shirt and you can see it in a surprising amount of footage on all those behind-the-stages documentaries this boxset seems to be so prolific on.
Ew, I feel like a geek. In the bad sense of the word. -

Deadline Render Queue (beta)At Frantic Films we have over the past year developed our own network rendering solution: Deadline. Our solution has just recently entered a beta testing period thus if people are so inclined one can have a look at the current product (screenshots) and possibly download a trial version (download page). We used Deadline on a number of recent feature films including Scooby Doo 2 and Paycheck.
We did this because we primarily use Discreet's 3dsmax (with Brazil and V-Ray) and Eyeon's Digital Fusion. We have found that most existing render farm solutions do not support these two packages very well -- thus we decided to develop our own custom solution. We also support After Effects, Alias|Maya, AIR and other RenderMan compliant rendering packages.
Of interest to the general Slashdot crowd may be that this Deadline Render Management Solution is based on the open source (BSD License) Exocortex C# library originally released with this C# 3D Engine. Deadline is built with C# in the hopes that using Mono we will be able to start supporting Linux with minimal extra effort.
I'll be reading all the posts on this Slashdot thread but I would also appreciate any direct feedback on our current beta product. We also found solutions such as Rush and Smedge to be less than user friendly in many respects. Thus we have tried as best as we could to increase a 3D package that is not well supported by most render farm management solutions -- except for Discreet's Backburner (which we found not that that scalable.)

What? No celeb pr0n?
I was lured here by RSS bait, that smelled like Lisa Kudrow pr0n.
And the only facial I get is George Washington. -
Vega Launcher?
Does this mean they've found the primer?

Re:Interesting Observation
Reminds me of this movie.

Also on the threat matrix...
I also heard that there was a lot of talk about an upcoming Revolution November of last year. But it turned out that there was absolutely no story, and it was nothing but a bunch of special effects.

Re:This may be a good thing for Linux.
Dude, you've been trolled. I've gotten my karma up to excellent in a few days, with meaningless, stupid, groupthink drivel.
Thank you for playing.

I'm with the twins
Just on the surface, you gotta side with the hot twins. Acclaim could've easily made half decent games and plopped the MK&A brand on it. Olsen Twins Bedazzled, Olsen Twins Music Trivia, Olsen Twins Pictionary. No one was looking for Halflife level Olsen Twins games, but Acclaim, as usual, screwed it up by releasing drek. In thier defense though, Acclaim has released nothing but crap since 1998 so maybe the twins should've seen it coming.
