Re:What the hell is Wayland?
Well. I think the quote on Wookieepedia sums it up best:
"Wayland is where Emperor Palpatine's secret toy-box was. All kinds of nasty dark side things on Wayland."

Vilcabamba
Vilcabamba by Harry Turtledove.
It's a short, good read. Made me think for days. It's analogous to the Europeans finishing the conquest over South American Indians.
"The story is set sometime in the 21st century, 50 years after an alien race called the Krolp conquered and occupied much of planet Earth. The story is told from the perspective of President of the United States, Harris Moffatt III, who rules a rump United States and Canada that runs along the Rocky Mountains. Moffat's father and grandfather were also presidents."

Re:This seems to be based on the principle
This seems to be based on the principle that if you want the strength of a tank, the performance of a sports car, and the economy of a hybrid you just lash a tank, a Ferrari and a Prius together and driving it will get you all three. I somehow doubt that the reality will live up to the promise.
You are apparently unfamiliar with the awesome power of the triple changers. Astrotrain FTW!

Re:Rules
Looking at the examples in the lawsuit PDF shows that they're not copies, but at worst reimaginings.
... which in every prior case has been found to be an infringement of copyright.
But really by all means go make a game called Munchkin. It can look like Pacman with absolutely no copying of the original code or graphics. Change the name of the characters and change the gameplay slightly. Pacman can be called Munchkin, the ghosts can be called Munchers, and Artari won't be able to sue you and win.
Hard to call it hyperbole when it's based on many actual court decisions isn't it.

Just bring back the Trackball Explorer!
The single most perfect input device ever created was made by Microsoft: the Trackball Explorer. With a futuristic, ergonomic shape (it's the navigation control for Moya) that's comfortable to use all day, I can't believe they still stopped producing them.
All they need to do is bring this back with Bluetooth a few other touch-sensitive features, and I would be estatic. Not having to pay $400 for a replacement when my current one eventually dies would be nice, too.

Re:No one cares!
You can't buy an IPv4 only device pretty much, as almost anything that has Net capabilities has at least a dual stack.
IPv6 in LWIP is still experimental. Every byte counts - I don't have a 1 GB DDR3 connected to a microcontroller. I may have only 64 kB of on-chip RAM for all the networking, on a good day. I already have to count TCBs and active connections. How do you suggest I add IPv6 support to existing and new devices?

Well, don't complain when they come and get you because you choose to do nothing. And they will come to get you. No one is safe.
False dichotomy. You're not stuck between fighting the system and doing nothing.

Re:Get a car that lasts 50+ Years
Unless somebody comes up with an electric with an on-board generator (screw hybrid drive trains, engines are *much* more efficient if they're running at fixed RPM... hook it up to an alternator or dynamo and generate electricity to power the purely electric drive train), my next car will be a turbodiesel. Diesel requires much less energy to produce than gasoline, it's ubiquitously available, and it allows much better efficiency than most gasoline cars on the market (and some hybrids).
There are two automobiles that currently have a generator that is not mechanically connected to the wheels the Hammerhead Eagle I-Thrust and the Fisker Karma. The chevy volt has a clutch between the engine and wheels that it can use so it wouldn't fall into your criteria.

Re:MAH-DI!!
"Mahdi" is also used in Dune, along with "Lisan al Gaib" and other terms. "Mahdi" is, as someone else pointed out, a real term in Islam, upon which the Fremen mythology was based (Zensunni Wanderers).

How is explaining a Star Wars reference on slashdot considered informative? That's like explaining what a bullet is on a gun forum.

Re:Wikipedia Founder
England never listens to Wales.
How could they? Everyone knows that Welsh is a made-up language, right up there with Sindarin and Klingon. No one actually speaks it, they just string some good sounding syllables together when they need it. Welsh has the added burden of actually being a cryptographic cypher, allowing plaintext to be transcribed into an unbreakable code.

Re:BS Legal Response
It seems to me that since you're now admitting that other solutions rather than litigation might be preferable, in other words, that it's not an "open and shut case" as you previously asserted, then we're done. But, regarding the statutory issue you raised, I'd suggest taking a look at this article, where it points out that the provision of the Lanham Act which you cited, S 43(a)(1)(B) contains the requirement
that the challenged description or representation be made “in commercial advertising
or promotion.” That provision was added to address First
Amendment concerns by excluding from the reach of
Section 43(a)(1)(B) “political promotion” and “‘consumer or
editorial content, parodies, satires, or other constitutionally
protected material.’”...Perhaps for this reason, the courts—to the extent they
consider the statutory language at all—frequently focus on
whether a defendant is engaged in advertising or promotion,
rather than on whether the challenged description or
representation is commercial speech. In other words, there's only a violation under sub(B) of this statute when "advertising or promotion" is taking place. MS Forefront Threat Management Gateway isn't for the purpose of advertising or promotion; it's arguably a type of editorial service. And sub(A) doesn't really apply here, it's more concerning a situation where say hypothetically Microsoft had started referring to itself as the "Fun Software Foundation" so they could start saying "Richard Stallman loves us. We're the FSF, after all."
As well, see here. I still contend that none of this stuff has anything to do with making a mistake in rating a website.

This is news?
Okay so he's got Laryngitis or something similar. Why the hell are people thinking this is news? I get Laryngitis from acid reflux from time to time, a couple of weeks Zantec usually clears it up, and I'm good for like the rest of the year.
I hate making Steve Jobs references, but I think news media is still hung up on mysterious health issues equaling pancreatic cancer or some similar terminal disease. Dude is unable to talk, and the company reports that it is not serious like most other health issues. For all we know the inability to speak is due to some contagious pathogen and he just wants to lay low so no one gets it, while he gets over it. I'm sure when Page was contemplating taking a leave of absence for a little spell, he didn't realize that he needed a press release to go along with it.
Of course there is the alternative theory could be that Page just had his meditation chamber installed and he's taking it for a spin. You know, if you're in that camp where Google is evil and all. -

Re:Next Gen Q
The Next Generation Q episodes are the most demented fun. From Picard waking up in bed after a sexual encounter only to be greeted by Q to my favorite exchange in the final "All Good Things" episode:
The Next Generation My Little Pony episodes are the most demented fun. From Pinkie Pie saying "Eternal chaos comes with chocolate rain, you guys. Chocolate rain!" to the introduction of a villain named Discord voiced by John de Lancie, reprising his role as an animated version of "Q".
Picard/Celestia: This doesn't make sense!
Discord/Q: Making sense? Oh, what fun is there in making sense?Of course then you have to explain to your girlfriend that you're a Trekker and a Brony, which probably leaves you worse off than you were when you started, but eventually, when wintertime rolls around, the gorillas simply freeze to death.

Where is our Baal when you need him?
Imagine if he turned that virus in to something as destructive as the Avenger program was in the Stargate series.
They'd have hell to pay if something that bad happened.
In fact, I'd not be surprised if war broke out.SG-1 - Avenger for those who missed it.
It was a risky move indeed.
Regardless, people also have the program now. They opened up a potential horrible future already. Hold on to your butts. -

Agreed. Considering the default state of a cat, which is a cold hatred for all human life, dead is infinitely preferable to the third alternative: bloody furious.
