Which RSS feeds? Where do you start?
First I will add a plug for https://www.bloglines.com/ â" RSS feeds where ever I can log in, via HTTPS. Great for those feeds I read whenever & everywhere; and for those I only check when waiting to board the airplane. In my bloglines collection I have around 400 feeds, which will grow after looking through these threads.
:) Some selections that hopefully no one else has mentioned:Amusement:

Re:Tivo's Series3 is a ripoff
Or, shop the sales for a TiVoHD which runs Series3 software (as it is a Series3 unit) and has an eSATA port for storage space expansion. It was at woot last week for $184.99 (which includes shipping). I've built MythTV boxes for people - even had a side business that did it. I got good at setting up the software, but even when you do get it set up just right, things outside of your control break (such as the TV listing fiasco or some other part of the software pitching a fit) and ruin the experience.
Even when building MythTV boxes, I did all of my DVRing on a TiVo. It just worked. I own it. I can hack it if I want, and my cable company doesn't get to tell me what ports will work and what ports won't. Plus it's Significant Other-friendly. -
Re:Ok, I'll bite
In Christianity, in some parts of Europe there are a few people who are a bit too much in love with Mary (for my taste), that wouldn't have happened if there were no pictures of her around.
You think Europe's bad? I can't imagine it could be any more Mary-obsessed than Mexico, or at least that part of the Mexican culture on display in Texas. The image of La Virgen de Guadalupe, borne on a cloud by a little dark-skinned angel, graces everything from cathedrals to car windows to the Bandana of Catholicism I got from Woot.
(Of course, being Protestant, I never quite understood the whole thing of praying to someone other than the Big Guy himself...) -
Re:What?
It's hard to see it [w00t] in any context but geek culture.
I don't know, I stay up most every night until 12:01 waiting for the next w00t. When there's a woot-off, forget about it - I'm up all night!
Of course, my wife has observed that I might have a w00t *problem*.

These guys will be thrilled
woot!
For those not familiar with the site, they sell one product a day, until it's gone, at a deep discount. Today (12/13/2007) it's a NavMan GPS for $149.
I hit the site every day. -
Obvious to Woot! customers
This phenomenon is well known to devotees of Woot!. iPod knockoffs comprise seemingly half the seven new products offered each week—various Roomba models comprise the other half—and a good chunk of the selection during each Woot-off.

Sorry but Woot is taken
The name Woot is already taken by http://www.woot.com/

It really is hard to keep track...
Daily:
http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ I like to start every day with the Astronomy Picture of the Day
http://www.woot.com/ and the daily Woot.
http://www.slashdot.org/ Then I'll visit Slashdot about 30 times each day,
http://www.techbargains.com/ and I'm surprised more people didn't list Techbargains. I can't stay off this site.
http://www.ytmnd.com/ Finally, I'll spend countless hours each day viewing stupid YTMNDs.
Few times a week:
http://www.apple.com/trailers Movie trailers, keeps you up to date on what's coming out.
http://www.thepbf.com/ The Perry Bible Fellowship = best.
http://www.theonion.com/ The Onion
http://www.thinkgeek.com/ and Thinkgeek, of course.
Mix in the usual bbc, npr, cnn, espn, newegg, email, etc, and that's my rotation. Really, I'm surprised I didn't see more techbargains in these replies. That should be a staple in every rotation. -

Re:Who the hell...
the reasons for Black Friday bricks-and-mortar sales just don't apply to the online world.I don't know about that. Traditional retailers aren't doing it right, that's for sure. They could probably learn something from Woot, which has the equivalent of a line of people waiting up until 1:00EST every night to be the first to see what they're selling for the day. Though, many of them are just there waiting for the next bandolier of carrots...
If Walmart or Target had such sales on their online sites, and advertised them as starting at midnight, I could see them getting the same kind of following. -

wootz is having a woot-off today!

Re:Big Companies Suck - Here's Why
"Propiertary memory hardware"
I haven't heard about this. Probably because they are not in memory card business (yet.. still many markets to grab over).
Have a look at today's woot: http://www.woot.com/ -
This card was on Woot! for $150 a while ago
A friend of mine bought this card from Woot! for $150. It got shipped in a brown box and was allegedly Dell overstock. He had to take a leap into darkness because nobody at the time was allowed to benchmark the thing, but now it looks like a pretty good purchase!

I have a SanDisk MP3 player...
For what it's worth, I have a SanDisk SDMX1 MP3/WMA player (256M version) and it's really pretty nice. The physical design is no marvel of engineering, but it worked flawlessly with Linux with no effort. It appears as a standard USB mass storage device. It's got an FM tuner and voice recorder (only records WAV format, though), too. The best part is that I paid $15 (yes, fifteen dollars) for it on Woot a couple weeks ago. Hell of a deal. I bought one for my girlfriend, too (and only paid $5 shipping for the whole order).

Re:Yep, burn in dooms plasma
It is possible to create thing panel DLP. Here's an example of a thin panel DLP. They quit making them because DLP is too expensive to compete in that market.

I guess you have not tried very hard.
Even Woot can get you drunk -

Re:Maybe this ain't so bad
Hence the great success of woot.com. The writing that accompanies each product they sell is entertaining and enlightening, and it adds to the site's draw, which in turn of course adds to its objective measure of worth - revenue.

Re:MS Seeks Entrance Fee to Xbox Accessory Market?
Yes. It works with wireless USB keyboards like these. There is no "lockout" for keyboards or mice. I imagine my el-cheapo USB gamepad I bought 5 years ago wouldn't work with the Xbox 360, though.

Re:Apple
Yeah, like that...only not fugly.
But if that's your cup of tea, looks like Woot's selling them for $50 today.

Re:Another BoingBoing story...
Hope they don't see today's woot:
http://www.woot.com/ -
Sometimes, I wish they would
I've been on both sides. I ran the message board for a (small-signal) radio station for a while, and fought with management over posts about competing stations. Hint: don't admin a board unless you and the management are completely clear on such issues! Especially if you have something of an emotional investment in the subject.
But sometimes it just gets out of hand. The message boards for Woot.com are full of spam postings, whining, and just plain crap. But they pride themselves on their free-wheeling tolerance for criticism, so they tend to not censor *anything*. It makes the board nearly useless for its intended purpose of reading the kudos and flames about a product.
The best compromise would be have a clear policy about what will be deleted, and stick to it. That way, you can field complaints from management for letting opposing viewpoints through, and you can also get flamed by whiners wanting to crapflood. If you're catching hell from both sides, you know you're doing something right. -

W00t!
If you haven't already, you must experience the W00t! Basically it's one deal a day, good until sold out. I bought my robomower there, and almost bought a 3ghz HP PC (yuk! HP) this past weekend. Keep any eye on the product photos, they often inject some humorous twist...
From the site:
What is woot and who's behind it?
woot.com is an online store and community run by the employees of a 10 year old consumer electronics distributor that focuses on close-outs and generally buying stuff cheap. Since the distributor doesn't sell to end users, Woot, Inc provides us with an employee-store slash market-testing type of place. Hopefully the boss won't take notice. We anticipate profitability by 2043 -- by then we should be retired; someone smarter might take over and jack up the prices.
I see only 1 item, do you sell anything else?
No. We sell 1 item per day until it is sold out or until 11:59pm central time when it is replaced (see next entry for details). However, each item we sell is in stock and typically ships within 2-3 business days.
What is the schedule for new items?
OK - this is simpler than it sounds: A new product is released at 12am central time Monday through Friday mornings (if you are not a morning person, this can be described as Sunday - Thursday at midnight. better?) Friday's product will last through the weekend unless we sell out. If a product sells out during it's run, a new item will not appear until the next release time. You will know if a product is sold out, because the main page says "SOLD OUT" instead of "I want one". (clever, eh?) -

(My bad, it's the RL500!)
(Image)
Friendly Robotics Robomower RL500
The Rise of the Machines (into Landscaping Professions)
$179.99 + $5 Shipping and Handling
Herald of the Terminators, the Robomower RL500 crawls over your lawn like a worker ant, paring back the living grass, making our world more suitable for the robot masters that will ultimately enslave us.
Yard by verdant yard, that which was once free, organic and wild is brought to heel under the RL500's durable, rust-free mowing deck. After your formerly luxuriant lawn is tamed, how long will it be before the Robomower turns its quintuple horsepower equivalent cutting system on you?
(If the Robmower RL500 rises up against you or any member of your puny human community in less than 90 days, subdue it and return it--it's still under warranty.) -

d00dz, don't miss w00t, the website (deal site)
There are a number of sites I check daily, some are 'deal sites' such as SlickDeals..., but one of the more interesting has to be w00t !
They have a new deal every day (except weekends), once they run out, that's it ! Don't miss their famous "Bag 'o Crap" specials, and always read the details and the photo (they have some of the most entertaining descriptions evar), and keep and eye out for bravewoman.
I actually bought and actively use the RoboMower RL850 I saw there one day (love it, by the way).

Not Compulsive.
There is a website http://woot.com/ that is compulsive. Everynight @ 12 AM CST, they list a new item. Some sell out in 5 minutes, others don't sell out

Woot!
but it had better be at a $200 price tag
So? Even if it's expensive, http://woot.com/Woot will get it cheap somehow.... -
Isn't this already available
Seems to me that this concept is already available...and only for $80 from http://woot.com/ today

Re:Bad for CS students
This isn't true. Kerry wants to lower taxes on the middle class and raise them on the upper class.
Last I checked, I wasn't making 200,000 plus a year, so I'll actually save money with Kerry's plan... :) And so will all these CS undergrads!
So, take your own advice and stop making up news.
