Manufacturers will make dirtier cars now...

It's already happening in Europe:

Re: States can get serious
You've ignored that the "sanctuary" state of California and the cities within have shown no inclination to do anything to deport illegal immigrants -- quite the opposite.
You've ignored remedial civics - immigration is a federal issues, not a state issue. States no more have to worry about immigration than the FBI needs to worry about pet or noise ordinances in L.A.
San Francisco is now allowing them to vote in school elections, and some cities even bring them into the government.
And anyone who participates can count on making their own ICE Is videos in short order, proving my point.
*snort* The Democrats have become the party of illegal immigration. Immigrants are the party's base of the future. If Democrats were really serious about immigration, they'd work with Trump and bring a sane immigration policy that put American interests first.
You need to pull your head out of the wingnutosphere. Obama deported more immigrants than all previous presidents combined, and the Clintons were for a border wall 20 years before it was cool. And remind us again who granted amnesty to millions of immigrants in the 80's?

Re: As long as the security isn't proper id...
1) IDs are free- sure.
2) National holidays- not really necessary. People working 12 hour shifts, who have the hardest time getting to the polls, will still be working those 12 hour shifts on holidays. That's how shift work works.
3) same day registration- nah. And since we're casting aspersions here, the only reason you want it is so people can vote multiple times in the same day, in multiple states, and there's no time to validate their eligibility to vote.As long as we're on the subject, black folks know how to get IDs just fine, thank you.

They paid the ransom.
Did they get their data back? Seems like it might be a "cheap" lesson to learn about backup/RESTORES and security.
I've heard about some of these guys actually having a chat-room to help victims figure out how pay them in bitcoin and make sure the files are recovered. Nothing like an honest criminal -- OTOH you're more apt to pay them if it's well known you'll actually get your data back. "Thank you for volunteering to be a customer, please come again!"
The FBI doesn't want you to pay them, because you're paying a criminal. I agree, but I can see how people do it and say, "But next time we'll do better!" Link. -
Re:Now this is the /. I remember!
Thanks for the YouTube link.
Wow! That's an VERY interesting bit of music trivia. That "Spaced" track is from 1969 too! It lasts a little longer, but dam, that THX version was _definitely_ inspired / ripped-it-off! That's pretty cool you know Paul Beaver too.
Interestingly enough Iannis Xenakis's 1953 song "Metastasis" @0:30 has a similar, but slightly different glissando. I wonder if Paul Beaver knew about it?
It is almost comical to see a phrase of music become popular 14 (or 30) years later. Shame that Beaver & Krause was never acknowledged.
> "Spaced", or rather the final movements of it now called "Deep Note", was used at the very beginning, as the House Lights were slowly brought down, and the deep Blue Stage Lights were slowly brought up, and
...You wouldn't happen to know what year that happened by chance? Before 1983 ?

Stupid Juvenile Whiners tactics Rule #4: Never take responsibility -
Re:Just to set the record straight
You joking? The mainstream media that we know for a fact was colluding with the Democrats to throw the election for Hillary? We have hard proof; Wikileaks confirms. Freedom of the Press does not imply Honesty of the Press. The media tells only the story that confirms its own view, that in the end it was incapable of seeing an alternative outcome and of making a true risk assessment of the political variables - reaffirming the Hillary Clinton camp's own political myopia. This defines the parallel realities in which liberals, in their view of themselves, represent a morally superior character.
Here's CNN getting caught red-handed planting debate questions. http://imgur.com/a/OMD6b#ed8AV...
On June 16, 2014, Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank published a column alleging that a peaceful Muslim was nearly verbally lynched by violent Islamophobes at a Heritage Foundation-hosted panel. What Milbank described was despicable. Unfortunately for Milbank and the Washington Post's credibility, someone filmed the event and posted the film on YouTube. Panel discussants, including Frank Gaffney and Brigitte Gabriel, made important points in a courteous manner. Saba Ahmed, the peaceful Muslim, is a "family friend" of a bombing plotter who expressed a specific desire to murder children. It soon became clear that Milbank was, as one blogger put it, "making stuff up."
CNN cuts off congressman when he mentions Wikileaks with Clinton.
Ex-CBS reporter's book reveals how liberal media protects Obama
Compilation of CNN & MSNBC Cutting Guests Mics to Protect Hillary Clinton
The entire media endorsed Hillary.
CBS's John Dickerson: http://www.mediaite.com/online...">Donald Trump Didn't Ruin the Press's Reputation, We Did That Ourselves.
Here's the media changing headlines to attack Trump on dozens of occasions.
Look at all these respected journalists express surprise, dismay, and a total lack of understanding that Hillary lost. They even admit it: "I genuinely do not understand America."
Journalists don't want the media to stop being partisans, they just want them to be *more effective* partisans! To be more effective at beating Trump. The assumptions and goals are the same - Trump is evil, he should be destroyed. It never occurs to the media or their "critics" that the media is not supposed to have any skin in the game...you can only "lose" if you are fighting an opponent...and THAT'S THE PROBLEM.
What bothers me the most about the media is that not only are they horribly prejudiced - they don't even seem to be able to recognize their prejudice. That's so bad.

Who uses Samsung???
I still use my iPhone 6s and reduce my monthly bill from $80 to $50. As a phone and a video camera, the iPhone 6s isn't obsolete and I use it to make my videos on youtube. As a Sprint very special customer for 20+ years, Sprint will always give me a new iPhone for free if I decide to stop using the 6s as a phone in the next several years.
I have a hearing loss in one ear, so my audio will always be suspect. I use a Zoom H2 audio recorder with a pop filter 12" away from my mouth, Audacity to clean up and normalize the audio, and sync the audio to the video and apply a "voice enhancement" eq to the audio in the video editor.
My PC has an eight-core processor and a Nvidia 1050 Ti 4GB video card. A minute of 1080p video renedered on the processor takes a minute. A minute of 1080p video rendered on the Nvidia card takes 10 seconds. I don't think an iPad has the same performance of my PC for rendering videos longer than a short clip.

Re:Amazing
Literally in the same video: the MacBook Pro is the slowest i9 of a group of laptops seemingly because they chose to be very conservative on their fan spinning up and the thermal solution is simply no better than the other laptops. That sounds amazingly like a "by design". Either that or it's gross incompetence running at 67% the speed of the top laptop.
Now, admittedly three of the laptops are rather thin and they all run closer to the 2.9Ghz base clock; but that just seems to further double down the "by design" aspect of it. So now it's thermal throttling, just not below base clock. For a lot of people, that may well be acceptable. But to me it still demonstrates insufficient cooling.
PS - Seriously, they tout up to 4.8GHz* for the i9 model. So, either way they're wrong. You can see another video on throttling that does a fan override with relatively little effect. And then an update with the fix is underwhelming. The fix the bug that makes it go below base clock. Wooo..
* Yes, that's only on one core but as the other video shows as long as they're not being throttled cores can average up to 4.3GHz.

I find AmazonTM the gretest thing since sliced bread and helps taking care of my health at retirement with the Amazon long tail revenue streams!
All you need to do is find a website with a permissive TOS, say, Slashdot, create a Python script to scrape your own comments, sprinkle Amazon affiliate links in various posts, and then re-post past links whenever possible. You can even make video of yourself going to pick up AmazonTM parcel at the convenience store and post it on your youtube channel for more redundant revenue streams.
They also have a wide supply, the best of latte and clif/power bars at the best cost, espicially if you make a friend buy them for you with your own affiliate link!

I suspect most of my 1K+ followers are bots. Very few are real people. I just use my ten-year-old Twitter account to pimp my YouTube videos to comic con crowds over the weekends. I had 25.3K impressions and an average engagement rate of ~3% (that's great by traditional advertising standards) in the last 28 days.
Three reasons why Stan Lee had to be at Silicon Valley Comic Con 2018: 1) Steve Wozniak was schedueld to be M.I.A. from his own show while traveling back from Russia; 2) Jeff Goldblum cancelled his Sunday-only appearance to spend all three days at the Dallas Fan Expo 2018; and 3) Stan Lee's management team needed him to make them money by signing 400 comic books from comic book dealers for $50K.

Ah, so you were confused by that, the same as the other people who started screaming "SJWs are calling Cuphead racist!!!". This is a very common mistake that the outrage industry makes, presumably deliberately since it's repeatedly pointed out to them.

If they don't want to fit in to the Trek universe, they would be better off developing a new universe of their own.
Making new universes is really expensive. First you have to make a big bang. It's a whole ordeal. So I can see why the want to hitch their wagon train to the stars.
PS - Yea, obviously it's a money-grab. The sad part is there's plenty of examples where people have used a recognized brand and just went a different direction, like the GP eluded to. Clearly those who own the brand sold out , and they believe they can just print money. Admittedly, Roddenberry was guilty of that as well--Merchandising! Merchandising!--as well as not giving due credit. I'd say it's sickening, but it's shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations. It's why shorter copyrights are a good thing so new content has to be created instead of exploiting consumers weakness to sequalitis.

Re: It's a trick. Get an axe.
What about the Kona is a good value? It's the same size as a Leaf or a Bolt, only a marginally larger battery (and no better streamlining) than the Bolt or Leaf (aka, no Supercharging), no access to any better charging network than the Bolt, and is built around an ICE econobox that has a MSRP of $19500 - but for the electric version they want you to pay £24995 for one that has a battery only marginally larger than a Leaf's and does 0-100 kph in 9,7 seconds (not a typo), or £33995 if you want the slightly-larger-than-Bolt-sized battery and a 7,6 second 0-100. And even things like nav are an added option on the base version.
The WLTP ranges are 186 and 292 miles, respectively, which correspond to an EPA range (using the Leaf's 177:151 WLTP:EPA ratio) of 159 and 249mi, respectively. Charge times are 54 minutes to 80% from a CCS 100kW, and should be around 1 hour 20 minutes to 80% from the much more common 50kW CCS chargers. The former - that's the highest power charger they can take, a type that's not all that common, paired with the largest battery - corresponds to about 220mph charge rate. Model 3 hits nearly 500mph at low SoCs (most commonly up to ~50% on the LR), on a charge network that's almost everywhere, well spaced and well maintained.
Also, Hyundai has been famous for the Ioniq having only limited availability. I expect the same thing from the Kona. I see no evidence that Hyundai is putting in the resources to produce it in significant volumes.
Lastly: have you seen how they did the battery pack on this thing? My god, if you ever see road debris, swerve.
On the upside, Hyundai's battery tech is leaps and bounds beyond Leaf's, and more comparable to Bolt's. There should be no #Rapidgate here.

Anyway, it would be nice if they build an Hyperloop transit system in San Jose. I would then have more time for my personal ventures!
I take public transit. A local bus take me down the street to pick up the express bus, the express bus drops me off in Palo Alto, and a local bus take me down the street to my job. An hour each way. Driving through Palo Alto during rush hour is insane. Since I work in government I.T., I start work at 7:00AM.
Also, I have a hearing loss in one ear, so my audio will always be suspect. I use a Zoom H2 audio recorder with a pop filter 12" away from my mouth, Audacity to clean up and normalize the audio, and sync the audio to the video and apply a "voice enhancement" eq to the audio in the video editor.
