Well that'd pretty fucking sad.
Have you considered trying something like this?
Pretty sure they couldn't technically classify that as suicide

Re:Darn and I wanted to visit Detroit!
Well there goes the big vacation I had planned for beautiful downtown Detroit..
You might be surprised to learn that lots of Detroit has been coming back strong since like 2010. Neighborhoods that were all but abandoned are showing signs of growth and there are lots of areas that are experiencing a full-scale renaissance.
Back in 2017, I visited there for 10 days to give some lectures and participate in a symposium and I got to see areas of the city where I never would have gone ten years ago. I was surprised at how nice it was and how optimistic many of the people who live there have become. There is a vibrant arts community and people really have a community feeling. Detroit will be back.
Because I love you all, here's a little something for you to groove to while you're pondering the Detroit Renaissance:

Re:Great
I watched Bill Maher interview Tristan Harris and right at the start I thought this was interesting:
BM: First of all, tell us what a design ethicist or a technological ethicist is.
TH: Well, um. So I was at Google and a design ethicist which is really: how do you study how to ethically manipulate what 2 billion people think every day? Because if you're a technology company...
BM: Ethically manipulate. Isn't that itself an oxymoron?
TH: Well, so if you think about it, if Google or Apple bumps its elbow into a billion people's minds it goes that way, or it could go that way. So no matter what we do, a billion people's minds are jacked into an environment that a handful of technology companies make. And so I got really interested in, how do you ethically steer what so many people are thinking and believing because the consequences are obviously huge in terms of, say, FaceBook and 50% of an election year...Bill Maher asks an interesting question here on ethics, and I don't think it was properly answered. How can you even be ethical when what you're doing is manipulating people?
And my question is, why is an ad company trying to steer how people think in the first place? Who is their customer paying them to steer people in a certain direction? Is the alleged election meddling just backfiring of a mind control system that was supposed to steer people a different direction? Is the effort now simply aimed at reining in this mind control system so that only authorized and approved parties can lend sway to what people think, not just any old country like, say, Russia? -
Re:I experience this problem on a 6+
Often is the same hardware fault. Traces to the BGA balls suffering fatigue, just like the iP6+ touch, iP7 lag-audio, and plenty of other baseband IC issues ( U1 and V1 pads).
Here's a video of one being fixed (started at the point where he's looking right at the U1 and V1 pads ) https://youtu.be/tdD7BSIy_u4?t...

GOP hypocrisy insignificant next to Dem hypocrisy
Many of the same Dem screaming the loudest that Trump is in Putin's back pocket just voted to give Trump vast spying powers.
- 1) This means hacks like Pelosi and Schiff gave Putin unlimited power to spy on Americans
2) They've been utterly and completely full of shit on Russiagate since day one
Either way, grandstanding from Nunes is insignificant in comparison.

Re:Complete BS
Re-greening the desert is actually one of the most effective ways to sequester CO2, and it can be done with a lot less water than most of us would assume. Both Joel Salatin and Allan Savory have stated that large scale adoption of managed intensive rotational grazing (MIRG) could re-sequester all the CO2 we've added to the atmosphere since the industrial revolution within a couple of decades.
In a nutshell, well managed herbivores help keep the soil healthy, and actually increase the topsoil layer. More soil stores more carbon, as does healthier soil, so it's a double win. A triple win if you consider the healthier livestock -- grazing outdoors instead of crammed into factory feedlot "farms". More and healthier soil also retains more water, helping to alleviate the looming water crisis.

Taps into ADS-B & open tracking of flight info
I think most aircraft already broadcast their location via ADS-B:
I don't know a lot about it but I believe people track these things for fun (& it sounds like fun too!). I would expect that they pour this info into a global database too. It would make sense for Google to tap this info and use a planes location & expected location as part of its prediction.
Actually, I think there's a scheme (possibly active) out to have LEO satellites tracking this info to mitigate the "lost aircraft" events that we had a cluster of not so long ago. It cost lots of $ trying to find planes full of people that disappear without a trace.
I wonder if SpaceX / RocketLab etc. have transponders? I would expect so but what about those military launches? Probably turned off for those...

Eclipse is what is interesting ...
From an astronomy point of view, it was the eclipse that was interesting.
The blue moon is nothing but a calendar thing, and has no scientific meaning.
The super moon is indeed larger, but not to the naked eye.
The blood moon is just an atmospheric phenomenon, and happens regularly.
It is the eclipse that was significant for an astronomy fan, rather than pop culture or astrology.
Anyways, if you were clouded out, or did not wake up early, here is where you can watch the eclipse as it was streamed.

Nice time lapse video
Here is a nice time lapse video of the "super moon" eclipse of 2015 in case you are interested: https://youtu.be/2HHz7CVMPx4 . It was not a "blue moon" but that term does not refer to a physical difference, just that there are two full moons in the month.

Re:Chinese neo-colonial behavior?
Doing some research with google and bing translators this quote still doesn't seem to be a true Serbian saying.
It really is a Serbian saying. It became well-known among Serbs during the 1990s, when the US (NATO) was bombing the hell out of Belgrade, destroying the Academy of Science, some 14th century churches, and the TV station, among other things. Of course, it could have been strictly a Beograd thing, since the rest of the country has their own reasons for hating Americans.
However, if you ask any Serb about u pichku materinu ("you're mother's pussy"), you will find that it's probably the most popular colloquial phrase in Serbian. And "crawling back into your mother's pussy" is an extremely common formulation. It's added to practically everything. Serbs are very creative at cussing. The one that really kind of took me aback the first time I visited there (I've been there quite a lot) is "fuck your God". I had to double check with someone because my Serbian was not very good at the time and I wasn't sure what I'd heard. It's a curse that is very common in former Soviet satellite or client states.
If you want an example of just how over the top Serbians can be when they curse, check out this post-game interview with Serbian basketball star Darko Milii. He felt he had been wronged by the referree, and describes in great detail what he's going to do to the ref's mother, daughter, grandmother and dog. Milii would later be drafted 2nd overall in the 2003 NBA (after Lebron James and ahead of Carmelo, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh) and would play for the Detroit Pistons.

Re:OK...and...
Hitler and the Nazi party used gas chambers on what they considered sub-human primates. VW circa 2014 at least does the same. That's quite a correlation.
Actually the Nazis developed the gas chambers because pumping truck exhaust into a packed room was deemed too inefficient.
The Nazis developed the gas chambers and Zyklon-B at the urging of Fabian Socialist like George Bernard Shaw who today would fit under Progressivism.

Re:Actually . . .
This seems kinda cool to me. I get texts that let me know when the ISS will be overhead (usually 1 or 2 days in advance), and they tell me where to look, what time, and give me a rough elevation where the ISS will be visible and where it will disappear. Maybe the Humanity Star gang could take some notes.
The ISS is part of an international space program.
Communication satellites are for communication.
Spy satellites are for... a different kind of communication.
The "Humanity Star" is a cross between an Ad campaign and a self-indulgent art project.
Maybe the next one can blink a secret message in Morse code or something.

Re: Well... was the driver lying?
It does try to stop as soon as obstacle is detected. The detection distance is most likely less than the stopping distance. In any case in sudden cases braking happens faster with brake assist than without one, so end result is better. Anticipation and seeing past the detection distance is left to the driver.
One comparison: https://youtu.be/UK7JqCR7w-g

Re: Finally!

Re:Intended use
What benefit does it add?
Its benefit is if the driver's treats it like an extra set of eyes, and is able to take corrective action when the driver fraks up. If the driver thinks it'll drive for him, you're right, it's a bad idea. (If you know anything about an aircraft's autopilot, you know it does not mean the flight crew is playing "I spy" while the plane does all the work).
* Blind Spots. You wanna change lanes or merge into traffic. So you check your blind spot, and glance away from the road in front for a fraction of a second. Problem is, somebody else just cut you off and stomped on the brakes. (Or somebody cut off the guy in front of you, and he stomped on the brakes.) In either case, the car starts braking before you know there's a problem.
* Blind Spots part II: We aren't paying as much attention as we think we are. The reality is humans suck at paying attention, we have mountains of data to prove it, and that's why we pay big bucks to watch "Magicians" and "Illusionists" perform.
* Blind Spots, part III: We're effectively blind for the fraction of a second while our eyes move from one focus point to another. That matters more than you'd think. The "I didn't see it coming" excuse doesn't even require a distraction... just glance at the road sign for a second.
* Distractions: A Pennsylvania insurance company found that 62% of accidents were caused by somebody being "lost in thought". Humans suck at paying attention.
* Another one I didn't appreciate until I got a car with a similar system: The car handles the gas pedal, and I cover the brake pedal with my foot. Wild animals (deer, moose), pets, children, and even adults jump in front of cars all the time. My car (not a Tesla) won't react until something is in my lane, so there's a chance I'll react first.

Re:horses
Some people will complain. But they'll be middle aged when autonomous cars start arriving.
By then you'll have younger people discovering their dad's Fiat 500 Abarth or 15 year old 2015 Dodge Challenger R/T.
You'd really tell me that there are Americans who would rather have a self-driving golf cart than one of these babies?

Re: Which billionaire is funding this one?
So if you ignore the astronomical cost of housing in California, the remaining expenses are comparable. You're shameless.
The place we sold in Chicago to buy the place in Houston which we sold to buy a place in California were all about the same price.
The place here in Cali has about 15% less floor space than the place in Houston, but the yard is about three times bigger. Considering the weather here is absolutely perfect compared to the shittiest weather you can imagine in Houston, having the outdoors is preferable. People who don't live on the California coast have no idea how beautiful it really is. There's mountains, an ocean, clear weather, clean air. Houston air always smells like creosote.
There's a reason California gets more tourists than any other state in the US.

Re:Nope
So what does "cooperation" mean?
If you don't understand the meaning of words, why should we expect you to believe any evidence?
As Donald Trump himself famously said,
I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters.
Believe me, people who believe the words of someone who starts sentences with "believe me" will never believe evidence.

Re:Poor thinking
No Facebook is the worst. Apple provides a useful, tangible product at inflated price, Google provides useful search and other services. Facebook just steals your time and confuses people about what is true and what is fake. An ex-Facebook executive explains it here https://youtu.be/MakEIlvlyfE
-
Re:Don't kill the goose laying the golden eggs?
Actually the E.U. is pretty aggressive about enforcing their laws, it's the member countries who try to swindle and cheat (c.f. Ireland on the Apple tax issue or German authorities turning blind on Dieselgate at home)
In my personal opinion GDPR will hugely backfire on European companies. Why? For Facebook, Google, LinkedIn etc. their core business is collecting and trading data on consumers. People are addicted to their services and will consent to any and all personal data collection, just like they do today. These companies have enough resources to make their services GDPR compliant, I'm sure they will be 99.9% compliant because they know they will be watched. Smaller companies whose core business is producing and selling stuff are facing comparatively huge costs in implementing GDPR. They are already now struggling for people to sign up for their newsletters and whatnot.
I agree something needs to be done, but one need to be careful not to over-generalize. It's obvious that we don't want political elections be manipulated by external agents through facebook, so they need to be regulated much more than now.
It's crazy that you don't pay sales tax in the US when buying online. In Europe we have loopholes exploited (mostly) by Chinese sellers through Amazon to avoid VAT.
There are various tax-avoidance schemes that need to be closed - can't really blame the companies to exploit legal ones. Many of these companies provide valuable services and products but they need to pay their fair share of taxes like other companies: https://youtu.be/xRL2vVAa47I?t...

Re:Are they sure they don't mean
Yes, I prefer my airplanes to be filled with nice safe hydrocarbons. They never burn.
EVs have a lower per-km rate of fires than gasoline cars (various figures suggest around 1/5th the rate). Why would it be any different with aircraft? Furthermore, it's much easier to make components redundant with EVs. Electric motors are light, batteries packs are easy to isolate from each other with no extra weight penalty, etc. In one design NASA has been working on there's a huge number of small props on the wing; they're only run at full power at takeoff, but beyond redundancy, they provide a huge amount of extra lift, greatly reducing takeoff distance. So far, though, they've only built a wing testbed
;)
