Re:That's funny...
Since you enjoy chatting with creimer so much...
Here is the story of creimy the mountain and his royalties!
This story was inspired by cdreimer, the parent poster. The story was written by a visionary on cdreimer birth date.
The story of creimy the mountain explained:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...Creimy is a typical mountain who poses for postcards, living with his wife Ethel, a tree, between the cities of Rosamund and Gorman, California. The main features on his mountainous face are two large caves, resembling eyes, and a cliff for a jaw, which moves up and down when he talks, puffing up dust and boulders.
click above link to read more, he even destroyed Edwards Air Force Base just by passing by...Listen to the audio version here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?..."Creimy The Mountain"
includes quotes from Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1 in D major (Edward Elgar), Johnny's Theme (Paul Anka), Off We Go Into The Wild Blue Yonder (Crawford), O Mein Papa (Paul Burkhard), Over The Rainbow (Harburg/Arlen), Star-Spangled Banner (Smith/Key), Suite: Judy Blue Eyes (Stephen Stills)

Postcardy mountain
Residing between lovely

With his stunning wife ETHELL, A tree! A tree!CREIMY was a mountain ETHELL was a tree Growing off of his shoulder
CREIMY was a mountain
(CREIMY was a mountain!)
ETHELL was a tree Growing off of his shoulder
(ETHELL was a tree growing off of his shoulder)
(hey, hey hey!)Creimy had two big
Caves for eyes,
With a cliff for a jaw
That would go up 'n down,
And whenever it did,
He'd puff out some dust,
And hack up a boulder (HACK!) Hack up a boulder (HACK! HACK!)
Hack up a boulder (HACK! HACK! HACK!) Up a boulderNow, one day, now I believe it was on a Tuesday, a man in a checkered double-knit suit drove up in a large El Dorado Cadillac, leased from BOB SPREEN
("Where the freeways meet in Downey!")
And he laid a HUGE, BULGING ENVELOPE right at the corner of CREIMY THE MOUNTAIN, that was right where his 'foot' was supposed to be.
Now, CREIMY THE MOUNTAIN, he couldn't believe it! All those postcards he'd posed for, for ALL OF THOSE YEARS, and finally, now, AT LAST, his Royalties!
Royalties! Royalties Royalties! Royalty check is in, honey!
Yes, CREIMY THE MOUNTAIN was RICH! Yes, and his eyeball-caves, they widened in amazement, and his jaw (which was a cliff), well it dropped thirty feet!
A bunch of dust puffed out! Rocks and boulders hacked up, (hack! hack!) crushing 'The LINCOLN'!
I gave him the money He acted real funny He hocked up a rock and It TOTALLED my car!
Oh, do you Know any trucks Might be bound for THE VALLEY?
I don't wanna stand here All night in this bar (Dear Lord)I don't wanna stand here All night in this bar (No shit!)
I don't wanna stand here All night in this bar!
By two o'clock, when the bars are already closed down, CREIMY had broken 'THE BIG NEWS' to ETHELL. And with dust and boulders everywhere, CREIMY, choked with excitement, announced
"ETHELL, we're going on a VACATION!"
Yes, and they WERE going on a vacation! (Oh, and ETHELL, ETHELL, ETHELL, like every little woman, she of course was very excited! She creaked a little bit, and some old birds flew off of her.) CREIMY told ETHELL they were going to Yes! They were going to NEW YORK!
"ETHELL, we're going to New York!"
But first they were gonna stop in LAS VEGAS
It's off to LAS VEGAS to check out the lounges Pull a few handles,
And drink a few beers, (Oh, ETHELL!)ETHELL, my darling, you know that I love you!

Re:Yes, fine, "storage"
Storage is a big part of the solution.
A gas turbine can spin when demand is high, and slow down when it is low.
Wind turbines don't work that way. They spin when the wind blows.

Re:Ok...
You might be interesting to watch the review of an old Intel prototype GPU card, and the history of it from Linux Tech Tips. It truly is interesting and a review of history done justice. I know my PC hardware, but wow, this was very interesting and a bit of trivia I wasn't aware of. Highly recommend watching it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
What I got out of that review was that Intel's card was less ASIC and more programmable. It was more of a cross between a CPU and GPU, but with lots of cores. Unfortunately, it never performed as well as a DirectX specific card, and was very power hungry. It was however far more flexible and adaptable to whatever you can program it to do. For it's time, it probably would have been the Bit Coin miner to have at the time.

Don't take these queef's money
They pool their money together to get the first dumbass to sell out, so Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Jack Ma, Mukesh Ambani, and Richard Branson can enslave humanity even more.
Whenever you see billionares pooling their resources together, it's a huge red flag for:
1. enslaving yourself more
2. doing to exact opposite of what their stated goal is. -

Re:Going cashless would fight crime
When I hear law enforcement officials from a plurality of countries state this, instead of central bankers and economic pundits, I'll be more inclined to believe it's a significant factor.
Here is the actual reality: central bankers crave a cashless society so they can impose negative interest rates. That's literally it.
If you want a pretty good overview of the big topics in monetary policy (and everyone should be interested because monetary policy involves the redistribution of purchasing power - it's interested in you regardless of whether you're interested in it), here's a very good overview of the current state of the art, at an established Washington DC think tank, with the former head of the central bank, and several established high level policy makers and pundits.

Re:Not the government
I know you tend to see us Europeans as communi-lefties that want to throw an evil-tyrannical-overreaching government to legislate the shit out of everything
I'm Dutch and don't see a significant difference between the US and Europe. The US became more and more socialist from 1924 until Reagan. But Republicans love big government too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...but at no point in my post did I invoke it.
That's why I said "You seem to", so you don't want government to meddle with this stuff?
With the negative side : users are usually on the losing side
And I explained why you're wrong.
I understand why people want government. Obedience to authority started probably started early in evolution and is certainly the way life on earth became successful. So we have an instinctive desire to organize society based on hierarchy. The problem comes in when people are forced to obey authority. With our means of communication this is no longer necessary. The Irish proved this and developed an entirely voluntary system to organize society:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...You know there's this thing called "direct democracy".
It works. You should try it sometimes.
I have, living in The Netherlands, we have referendums. But when the people vote against what serves the ruling class, they ignore the result. Or in case of rejecting the Lissabon treaty they changed some irrelevant aspect that nobody cared about and claimed they'd "taken opposing concerns seriously", or some bullshit like that. We recently got a system where the people could request a referendum. When it didn't do what they hoped it would, they abolished. They even explicitely admitted it was only created to justify their power. In the UK the government is just pretending to implement what the people voted for and are more and more in favor of.
Is it okay to demand money and threaten people with violence if they don't? Of course not that's extortion, but that's what governments do all the time. everything they do is necessarily based on this principle. Using some sort of ritual called Democracy doesn't make it okay.
https://i.imgsafe.org/fa/fa15e...
Only evil ends can be achieved through the evil means of government. The whole idea is that you vote what you want to force your government to do (= direct democracy),
instead of voting for some random idiot making empty promises on the TV, and hoping that he'll somehow keep his promises once in power (= representative democracy).
I agree direct democracy is better, but it doesn't deal with the fundamental problems. It's still immoral to extort money from the productive and give it to the unproductive. This motivates people to remain unproductive. People often choose this because it makes them feel better, regardless of the horrible reality this produces. This means you are corrupt, how can you then expect the rulers to not be corrupt?
Actually, part of my rant went the opposite way
:
- Facebook *is starting to provide less and less* value to new generations of customer who know it and eventually decide to go somewhere else (nothing new, same thing happened with any other predecessors in the "social media" category - e.g.: MySpace mostly died out).
- Mark Zuckerberg knows this phenomenon perfectly well.
- That's why he's been buying upcoming startup: He's not actually shutting down competitors and "aqui-hiring" new talent (like most giants), he does indeed buy startups with the purpose of keeping them because he tries to find out the most likely new comer that will eventually succeed to Facebook.

Re:Can voters change that?
Simply not true but who cares any more, no one is listening and it has all become rather boring. Russia is now a technocracy at federal level and that is now spreading down to state and local level at quite the pace.
Licensing all bloggers as censorship system only really works in countries with a specific genetic characteristic, has to do with a certain scoring system where the average is 100 (I am humouring myself with empty political correctness). In those countries there are a very limited number of people can can produce blogs and forums, most can not, more along the line of an ignorant mob consuming and absorbing what ever belief is the flavour of the moment, from albino witches to having sex with a virgin as a cure for aids.
So how will it affect democracy in those countries. Honestly, truly honestly, democracy only really works above a certain intellect, below that and you are too subject to the vagaries of empty beliefs to make sound decisions about a whole range of subject, including who to vote for (you know the crud, I voted for them because of the way they talked, I voted for them because of their religion, I voted for them because they looked good, I voted for them because I was told to or the inevitable I voted for them because they are going to make us 'ALL' rich, even when that is factually impossible, you can not have minority rich with majority poor).
Tanzania does something weird with the internet this week, meh, I sure they'll do something weird with chickens or witches next week https://www.youtube.com/watch?.... Perhaps they have just confused blogging with witch craft, must be that idiot Pompeo's fault https://www.rt.com/usa/384667-..., they thought the internet must be full of demons and witches, the US government said so.

There is a very fascinating explanation of why Microsoft did it in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6n3pFFPSlW4. As much as I want to hate Microsoft, I tend to agree.

Re:Sure seems like it.
Assuming that you are simply naive and clueless, here is a lecture from an actual lawyer (Prof. J. Duane, Regent University Law School), explaining why you should never, ever talk to the police, especially if you are innocent and telling the truth .
TLDR: even a completely innocent man, telling complete truth can/will still be convicted of lying under a variety of circumstances, if the FBI/police are not 1000% clear-headed, honest, unbiased, and don't make mistakes. You should only talk to them through a lawyer.
He gives concrete examples in the video of how completely innocent people (later acquitted by the DNA evidence) ended up on the death row, just by talking to the police/FBI.

Re: Just to be clear
I also fully expect Trump to walk out but because he has no clue what he's doing. He's batting a 0 on the international stage at the moment.
Trump has accomplished exactly as much as Obama did on the "international stage" when he won the Nobel Peace Prize - no word yet if Trump has used drones to kill US citizens without benefit of due process...
he views negotiations as something that can be won when a good negotiation would be where everyone wins.
That is the logic that rendered previous negotiations with North Korean leaders pointless and expensive - we trade shallow promises for US aid, giving North Korea much-needed aid and the President got to hold a press conference saying they've "resolved" the North Korea "issue". By your thinking this is a "win-win" and did little more but tee up the next administration to repeat the process in a few years for another "win-win" agreement.
When dealing with a brutal dictator, only Neville Churchill thinks handing them something is necessary - "Peace in our time!"

Chris, my team has just updated me with your new contact info. It is nice to hear from you again and to see that you have managed to get a new Slashdot account.
*** Chris, contact me ASAP please. I have AI click bots that don't get detected by youtube algorythm!
:) -2 subscribers and 10 views a day for you is sad.. -love granny XX ***Dear Team Creimer,
I just noticed that the Humpty-Dumpty video has 435+ millions views, that should make you salivate!
I have plenty of ideas to make the views on your own youtube channel skyrocket but you didn't contact me yet. Is it because I am a lady? Ethell says that you are sexist but I hope it isn't true.
Anyway, I will give you a free hint anyway: Dress-up as Humpty in your videos, you shouldn't need that much makeup making this a money saving situation in your own case.
My YouTube channel has 222K subscribers and many videos with hundreds of thousands of views:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
Now, with some slight adjustments, I think that together, we could make the view count skyrocket on your very own Team Creimer youtube channel
:)Please feel confident to contact me if you want me to coach you, we aren't living so far away from each other so we could even easily meet.

Re:Maybe not...
paleoclimate record is much lower resolution, and actually shows us that CO2 levels *lag* temperature changes, rather than lead them. This is contra to the hypothesis of AGW.
Climate scientists were not surprised when it was confirmed that CO2 lagged temperature - AFAIK it was predicted in advance based on the expectation that orbital forcing / milankovich cycles drove the 100,000-year past warming/cooling cycles. I believe the lag was first observed in this paper by Neftel et al. (1988). This video explains how orbital forcing alone is insufficient to explain the magnitude of the observed warming/cooling and thus a CO2 cycle, thought to be driven largely by CO2 solubility in oceans, was posited to explain the rest of the warming/cooling.
But no doubt someone has explained all this to you before. (aside: CO2 leading temperature change has been observed in the northern hemisphere - Shakun et al. 2012.)The difficulty is when you assume that CO2's further interactions with say, water vapor, create a tripling effect of heat retention
Again, it's not an "assumption", it was predicted based on the laws of physics.
when you assume that all other sources and sinks of CO2 do not react to perturbations (say, like plant growth)
Wrong. We know for a fact that other sources and sinks of CO2 will react to perturbations, and scientists have been hard at work producing studies to quantify those effects. Plant growth is one effect, soil erosion is another, there's lower solubility of CO2 in the ocean as it warms up... the list goes on.
small differences in the input criteria may yield wildly varying results, making the predictive utility of even a perfectly written physical model essentially zero.
A perfect example of how climate science denial is built around grains of truth which themselves have always been openly acknowledged. Initial conditions can indeed change the outcome and there are significant differences between climate models, but it doesn't follow that their predictive power is zero. Best estimates of ECS from experts and models range from 1.5 to 4.5 Celcius - a wide range, yet we can predict with high confidence that observed ECS will be somewhere in that range.
The funny thing is that deniers imply that high levels of uncertainty mean there is nothing to fear, as if the climate system's instability somehow guarantees we won't experience a high ECS like 4.5. That just doesn't make sense. -

Re:how unfortunate.
I hate having to choose between rupuklicans and deomancrates when it comes to our general election.
CGP Grey did a great video about that, it's a fun thought experiment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
He did another video called rules for rulers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...Seeing those helped me understand our elected officials and their decisions much better. Which has caused me to be less frustrated and angry about it. It's not simple and even those with the best of intentions can only do so much.

Re: UK's security minister
The biggest danger is that after Brexit we might be able to leave the European Convention on Human Rights, which among other things guarantees freedom of expression.
Even though the government already curtails freedom of expression, the ECHR limits how far they can go. Once it's gone they will be unrestrained.
What has the ECHR ever done for us?

Re:Why is /. reporting on this idiocy?
I recently had my first AC comment deleted. It was: "rare footage of BeauHD sperging out." I've noticed almost all of BeauHD's sperg comments have now been deleted. I think this site is trying HARD to push an SJW agenda and got caught. Like most honorless leftists (not that all leftists are honorless, but I speak of the honorless kind, which seem to be in large supply), they are hiding the evidence of their fuckery. This site is swirling the drain if you ask me. It's one last bastion of real, honest moderate dialog (without devolving into leftist censorship or edge white nationalists yelling the N-word). The left wants to destroy it. They seem to be doing a decent job at that.

Bang on.
The United States of God is now slowly converging towards some sort of The Handmaid’s Tale-esque end of days. Science is not needed. Just as shit-tonne of guns and bibles.

Slashdot Mods No Better than Trump
See recent Slashdot submission titled Petroglyph Explanation Remains Ignored After 15 Years. This situation with Trump lacking a science advisor is not especially different in that the person making these petroglyph claims, Anthony Peratt, is a government scientist specializing in high-energy density plasmas and nuclear physics, and has even advised the US government on the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
The Submission
...A government researcher in plasma and nuclear physics demonstrated in a 2003 paper that 40% of all petroglyph types could be correlated to unique forms witnessed for the first time just two years prior in classified government laboratories. A recent Joe Rogan Experience episode viewed by a million people and featuring Robert Schoch, a Ph.D. in Geology and Geophysics from Yale, briefly mentions the discovery. But petroglyph experts and the larger scientific community continue to completely ignore the findings and implications. What does it mean that the public must learn about this groundbreaking discovery from a comedian? Why have science journalists ignored the discovery for almost 15 years?
The Slashdot community does not itself seem especially concerned about warnings from nuclear scientists, as the submission has had plenty of time by now to make it to the homepage.

Agile is Dead -- Dave Thomas -- GOTO 2015
For his current thinking: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
After outlining the history of the creation of the Agile Manifesto, Dave Thomas outlines some basic problems with the Agile industry (including selling fear and also pushing complex IT systems to organize work that they can charge lots of money for). He says "the values have been totally lost behind the implementation". He says we need to distinguish between the implementation (Agile/Scrum/Lean/Kanban/etc) and the specification (Agility). He says "No rules are universal (except for this one)" and that "all rules are contextual". He espouses holding close to the value of "Agility" involving figuring out where you are, taking a small step towards your goal, re-evaluating and adjusting your understanding based on what you learned, and then iterating. He suggests choosing between alternatives delivering similar short-term value based on which keeps more options open to make future change easier -- outlining Dave's Rule of Design: "A good design is easier to change than a bad design." He calls for courage at the individual, team, and company levels to know you are going to make mistakes in order to find out what needs to be done -- and to work hard to make sure those mistakes small and correctable.
A shorter summary text version:
"Agile Is Dead (Long Live Agility)"
https://web.archive.org/web/20...
"The word "agile" has been subverted to the point where it is effectively meaningless, and what passes for an agile community seems to be largely an arena for consultants and vendors to hawk services and products. So I think it is time to retire the word "Agile."I've collected more related ideas on this High Performance Organizations Reading List:

More like torture prison...
Actual influenza, not common cold which most people confuse for flu, is deadly. 500k to million people die from it every year, globally.
Even if it doesn't kill you, the toll on your immune system is enormous.
You are very likely to end up with secondary infections, pneumonia and various inflammations including but not limited to heart and brain.
It really does a number on your immune system, and unless you're taking NSAIDs like ibuprofen, you can also expect joint and muscle pain during AND after you're virus-free.
On top of that, the effect on your immune system lingers for weeks and even months - you are more prone to infections cause your body is too busy fixing all that tissue damage the virus caused.Oh and... maybe you remember that movie Awakenings?
Well... all those people ended up in a comatose-like state most probably as a consequence of the 1918 influenza epidemic.
No penicillin or ibuprofen back then to fight all those secondary infections and inflammations. Not to mention actual antiviral drugs. -

OK, one more time. Agile is an adjective.

Of course.
famous artists and wealthy corporations will benefit greatly while the public will get absolutely nothing in return
They're the ones who buy your "elected" officials, so of COURSE they're the ones who benefit, and you who have been DUPED into voting these corrupt, bought-and-paid-for assholes into office, you of course get nothing, which is what you deserve, for voting these Republicrats into office, despite the obvious fact that BOTH halves of the "two" part"ies" are owned by the same group of people. Let me quote Willie Wonka:
"It's all there, in black and white, clear as crystal. You get NOTHING. You LOSE! Good DAY, sir." Or watch here...
Next time, instead of voting for a phony "Democrat" or a corrupt "Republican," consider voting for a REAL candidate for office, not one of these puppets of the super-rich and corporations.
