Re:one side only
It's also a somewhat open secret that 911 in the US doesn't work all that well when calling from a cell phone. People assume that when they dial 911, the call will go through and the 911 dispatcher will know where they are. This is generally true if you use a land line.
If you're using a cell phone, on the other hand, it often isn't. 911 frequently suffers outages where calls from certain carriers will fail to get forwarded properly, and it's very likely that your location will never make it to the dispatcher. The current goal as set by the FCC is for carriers to accurately forward location information 80% of the time by 2021.
The other issue with the above is that it's not unusual for a 911 call from a cell phone to get forwarded to the wrong 911 call center.
An FCC study estimated that improving location accuracy could save 10,000 lives a year but it still hasn't happened yet, to the point that John Oliver did a segment on it.

Re: this is why Tesla is going to be HUGE quickly
Indeed, it's one of the most modern car production factories on Earth. Including using some of the largest robots on Earth. All of Tesla's car production is done at the same place, using the same systems. Model S and X share a common platform; 3 and Y will also share a common platform.
Tesla has really pushed the boundaries on automation on car production. They show the robot that installs the seats on the Wired video, and how it has to contort to get the seats into position. The Model 3 allows even more internal work by robots by having the big glass window, which gets installed last, so there's a giant gap for robots to reach inside. Model Y is taking automation to the point that robots will even be installing the entire wiring harness. Normally that's unthinkable because it's a complicated tangle that winds its way through every corner of the car, but Tesla has been putting a huge effort into simplifying it.

Re:More censorship
try to find it via google if you don't know the domain name.
marchongoogle.com has only existed since the 8th of August. Did they even submit the site for indexing?
As it is, searching for march on google without quotes on Google returns a YouTube video talking about it as the first result. The same search doesn't return anything related to marchongoogle.com in the first page of Bing or DuckDuckGo results (although if you switch to the video tab in DuckDuckGo it shows the same video as the first video result).
But searching for "march on google" with quotes returns the marchongoogle.com site as the first result in Bing and DuckDuckGo and the site is listed in the second page of results on Google.
So I'd suggest this is less about some kind of conspiracy and more about the newness of the March On Google website.

Re:But you shouldn't worry.
Considering deceptive adds for pr0n and diet pills probably makes up 40-50% of all of them, i'd say it's a pretty good start. If they would have added in male enhancement pills, russian bride sites, and payday lenders.... that'd probably get rid of 75% or more of all of the crap. Then again, that'd probably cause the internet advertising revenue to catastrophically collapse.
Don't worry though, you'll always be able to get your ENGORGE!!! pills. https://www.youtube.com/watch?... -
Re:What if they put their name on it?
I think that they're damaged just by the accusation.
Assume for the sake of argument that Monsanto is completely innocent of any wrongdoing or impropriety for which they're being accused of in this specific case. It's essentially impossible to prove that you didn't do something (which is why the burden of proof must lie with the claimant) but there will always be some number of people that will only view a lack of evidence of guilt as proof of a wider-ranging cover up.
Once they've made up their mind, it's practically impossible to change. Even if Monsanto started donating a lot of money to environmental causes, it would still be viewed suspiciously. People will twist the explanation to fit their beliefs, i.e., this is just Monsanto trying to mislead people into believing they're good.
I'm inclined to believe that Monsanto had no need to be dishonest because almost all of the studies related to glyphosate haven't found a link to increased rates of cancer. I recall there was one study that did find a positive link, but it was quite controversial. It may have also been retracted by the journal that published it over claims of impropriety or serious methodological errors by the research team that conducted the study. Additionally, I previously watched a video that was skeptical of the claims made by the IARC report and the creators came to the conclusion that the language used by authors of the report was disingenuous and that they had misrepresented some of the studies referenced in that report. I haven't read all of the papers myself, so it's possible I'm being led astray, but it was from a skeptic channel that does a lot of videos on various topics so I'll give them a bit of trust. -
Re:So much wrong!!!
This. Also, his concerns were *not* concerns about anything public. There are apparently internal practices within Google that bothered him, and that-- in his opinion-- were themselves discriminatory and possibly illegal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Re:I find myself split on this
Look, Damore points out that there are seminars and other resources made available to certain "groups" based on gender and race, to the exclusion of others. This is discrimination based on race and gender. To deny that is intellectually dishonest. Also, his certainty is based on well-researched subject matter. That the scientific conclusions reached are typically ignored as much as possible by the SJW culture, and when they come to light are labeled "hate facts," is disturbing.
You are very much oversimplifying his assertions. Have a look at the interview with Damore, which I'm guessing won't see the light of day in the legacy media: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

GO READ THE ACTUAL MEMO
The point the guy made is actually summed up like this. Statistics show that hiring based on quotas don't produce diversity or results. Stop focusing on hiring people just because of their sex, ethnicity, or age. Instead, statistics show that hiring people based on their accomplishments or skills, increases diversity and creates an inspiring work place.

Re:Why are you lot so paranoid?
Lets be blunt, you do not go to an insane asylum to establish normal relations. The NK government is nuts, you simply contain it under threat of extreme retaliation and leave it alone. In fact use it as a model for permanent, well at least until the change, isolation. Rather than expending resources and lives on destroying resources and lives, it is far smarter to invest limited resources of containing the situation. Right now North Korea is pretty much China's problem and China after a fashion is dealing with it. The latest kerfuffle would not even have occurred if the US had not tried to lock down China with a fake problem after the Chinese built a military base next to a major US base, in Djibouti. Especially when it is received like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?.... So the US played silly buggers and purposefully created a crisis to try to lock down China and prevent them from occupying that base. Complete utter crap by the US deep state and a total failure, even worse, many countries in the region are now reaching out for support and help from China, specifically in defence against US warmongering incursions. The US deep state are just a bunch of psychopathic, moronic, self serving fuckwits that are bringing the US undone, all over the place, at home and abroad, just insanity.

I'm glad someone here sees this...+1! There have been others, and while we all want justice against people like Assad and Kim, it might be best to offer them an all expenses paid tropical island in order for them to just go peacefully. Re:It goes both way
Inequalities tend to hit women more than men. How many well paid and/or prestigious fields you know, which are dominated by women? How many such fields dominated by men? Personally, when I say that nursing and teaching is dominated by women, I see it as a symptom that something has gone wrong. Solution usually is to increase pay and/or prestige of the profession, not by somehow forcing people in. Sure, it is possible that biological predispositions would play a role, like in firefighting, but somehow the conversation tend to look like reenactment of Yes, minister. Vast majority of gender imbalance cases can't be explained away with biology, yet for some reason computer science and engineering folks love to speculate on biological aspects. All the biologists I have talks to about these things don't buy the “inherit predisposition” argument either.
Why should people care? Because if “the system” is such that women get less prestigious and less paying jobs, it puts them at disadvantage. They become more dependent on husbands, thus are more likely to stay in abusive relationships, higher risk of poverty etc. If for some reason the day would come where women would disproportionally get prestigious and well paying jobs, then that would be an indicator that something has gone wrong, but we are not in that position, and I write this knowing full well, that it is very unlikely that either of us live in the country, or even a continent.
social penalty is your claim, demonstrate it does exists rather than simply being a choice, and there are certainly enough counter example of people wanting to do such job
People can choose to defy social expectations and bare the consequences. Just because some do, doesn't mean that there is no pressure. Ask your male colleagues what they think their friends would think if they chose to be stay-at-home dads and let their wives become the sole breadwinner. Ask the same to your female colleagues. Ask how it would impact their self worth.

Re:Disney has a lot of video assets
Entirely my point. While Disney has a large vault, a lot of the older content wouldn't be PC enough. Black centaurs serving white centaurs in Fantasia. Jim Crow, the 'blackvoice' inner-city crows in Dumbo, etc. Old Disney was rather 'eurocentric stereotypes of other cultures'....can you just imagine if they aired Cannibal Capers during kiddie hours?

Re:Flash?
So how do we go back in time and convince Mike and Matt Chapman to use a product other than Flash to make Homestar Runner?
I saw a documentary which explained how.
Or how do we track down the author of every SWF vector animation
Or maybe just build a Flash runtime in WebAssembly. It's more productive than bemoaning the demise of Flash. The proprietor of Flash doesn't care about their proprietary platform anymore. So if you do care for some reason, then you're the one who's going to have to build it.

Because I've been fine tuning a low-carb diet and exercise program for the last five years.
You are so deluded with defense mechanisms it's bizarre...5 years of fine tuning, and you weight 350+? Your fine tuning doesn't work. And fundamentally, weight loss is simple, there's nothing to fine-tune.
OK don't pay attention to ACs, people giving you valid advice are all trolls, but you should definitely talk to a doctor.

Alternative: Fact checking skill
proves exactly how much value we should attribute to these so-called 'fact-checking organizations'.
The alternative would be to equip the people with the (intellectual) tools, so they can make up their mind of their own.
There are french teachers currently organising such classes in schools (media awareness).
One of them has a youtube channel (sorry, everything in french currently), where he makes presentations about such media-critic methods, and also documents a colleague doing such a lesson in a classroom. -
Re:And it still sucks at gaming
Gaming on intel vs AMD is a quite bizarre complex case.
If you check this digitalfoundry video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
You will see that intel or AMD victory depends a lot on not only the game, but what the game is doing.
Crysis 3 for example gets the best performance on the intel chips while only displaying some characters on close up, but as soon the camera pans to action with grass, helicopters, explosions etc, the AMD part starts to win and hard. Also you only get a significant difference IF you're not getting bottlenecked by the GPU, which is the case even with a geforce 1060.

Re:Luggage and cargo
Absolutely, I much prefer humans to turn the planes into lawn darts.
New commercial pilots do cargo. Experienced pilots do passenger long-haul. When the AI outperforms the newbies, I'd reckon it's fair game. Given that we've been doing autonomous flights w/carrier landings and mid-air refueling I'd say we're probably there.

54% refuse to board?
Then 54% are ignorant about the operations of a modern commercial airliner.
The onboard computer systems already control the mechanical operation of the flaps, the rudder, ailerons, the stabalizers, the landing gear, the ventilation, hell, pretty much everything. A pilot's primary responsibility is managing and executing the decision-making. Yes, they can take manual control, but why, when the computer is much faster, more accurate, and more efficient? Just watch this video and hear a commercial pilot talk about how autopilot alone works. All the pilot does is input all the data into the autopilot, setting the course heading, the speed, and the altitude, and autopilot does the rest.
Pilot operations of commercial aircraft are very procedural, and it can very easily be converted into an algorithm managed by a computer. At the very least, it would not surprise me if, in the next 20 years, the FAA determines it's safe for computer automation to reduce the number of required pilots in an airplane from two to one.

Re: men more driven by status, etc.
Diversity by Meritocracy is simply not popular with Silicon Valley. Rather than let the best people get the jobs, regardless of sex, gender, preferences, religion, ideology, or some other attribute, they are intent on equality of outcome regardless of talent and skills, which is discriminatory. The Left has turned full circle into the ideological KKK, and shortly, they'll be sending around death threats, doxxing people, or making up lies to get them fired.
We can fully expect to see McCarthyist Blacklists and political purity tests next.

Re:Remember kids...
A couple of things... First, Neil de Grasse Tyson mentioned this telescope, and its prospects for drawing talent, in a recent interview. (Might be this one, I don't have time to check.) Basically, he was talking about how the US was losing its leadership in science, citing the cancellation of the Superconducting Super-Collider back in the 90's. He mentioned this radio-telescope project in China as being a major draw for "talent" from the scientific community.
The second thing is about China itself. Culturally, they have a strong bias in favor of 'credentials' and 'certifications' as well as experience. They also put a lot of importance on 'face' or prestige. They want to attract some heavy hitters to bring attention and status to their program. The Party Leaders didn't allocate funds for this telescope because they give a shit about astronomy, they did it to establish their country as a central player in that field, just as Switzerland and Italy did by hosting the LHC. If you want to work with the largest radio-telescope in the world nowadays, you have to go to China.

Re:The essay's critics are missing the point.
The Gender Equality Paradox already debunked your nature vs. nurture argument on this. Children too young to be socialized show interest (we're talking "I've been able to use my eyes to see things for almost zero time at all" babies) in different "gendered" things in line with their biological gender. A lot of it is nature and there will be no progress until you ditch your social justice religion on this subject and acknowledge reality.
