Re:Rats. They found me.
So much for my Fortress of Solitude.
I'm glad you hired a maid to say you're "no here." That gave you the time to escape. For those who didn't catch it, here's exclusive video of the raid on his fortress.

Go look up Beau of the Fifth Column
on YouTube.
Long story short it's a symptom of Tough on Crime Laws and police militarization that's created an "Us vs Them" mentality. The Drug War hurts a lot too since a large percentage of folks smoke pot or know someone who does and that means you're always scared shitless when a cops around since they can arrest you and take your stuff.
The solution's easy: Stop Voting for Tough on Crime politicians, end the Drug war and stop civil asset forfeiture (which was created for the Drug War anyway). There's a few other odds and ends we can do (California has an anti-speed trap law, and properly funding your police so they're not dependent on civil asset forfeiture is a good start) too. -

Re:The two sides have stopped talking to eachother
Your sentiment is probably indicative of what is happening here. You don't want to talk to "Trumpers" and they almost certainly don't want to talk to you either.
The problem is most people are not qualified to be political, you can't have a politics that literally rejects the laws that govern the unvierse and is anti-science, and that is the entire republican party. Most americans would never accept that science shows they are not authorities on what they do and don't know about the world. AKA human perception is much more direly flawed then we've imagined. There is no sound politics that rejects reason and evidence, you can't have a functional world where people can't accept that science shows people are not very good at seeing the world clearly and building accurate political perspectives from the data.
Science on reasoning...

Re:Updates lately have been great
The iMac Pro was great. The new Mac mini was fantastic.
They're overpriced and underwhelming, way more than before. I had one of the first intel xeon Mac Pros, and at the time if you tried to build or buy something similar it would be about the same price for the components. Now you're touting the new mac mini as being fantastic?
You can build one for about half the price that's smaller and faster: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
FWIW, the Mac Mini was always overpriced, from the first day that the Intel version shipped. Competing on cost was never Apple's strong point, though they were usually within a few percent on high-end models in their base configuration (with no extra RAM or HD upgrades). Their upgrades have almost always historically been more expensive than buying the machine in the base configuration, buying the upgrade outright, and throwing away the parts you took out.

Re:Nobody knows what generates the magnetism
I can PROVE you are wrong:
Nougat is made with honey and egg whites. Lizards love honey and eggs. Thus, if there was a nougat center, the lizard people who live in the hollow Earth would have eaten it all, instead of coming up and mutilating our cattle.
Thus, it is complete proof - the presence of the lizard people inside the hollow Earth demands that it is not a nougat center. And referenced for you as well. QED.

Re:Pole reversal?
I suspect pole reversals are a consequence of the rotational axis of the Earth's core not being perfectly aligned with the minimum or maximum moments of inertia. When you spin an object around a different axis that the minimum or maximum moments of inertia, it tumbles - the rotational axis is not fixed, and drifts almost chaotically. Occasionally it will suddenly flip.
If correct, pole reversals are going to be unpredictable unless you can exactly measure the inertia tensor of the Earth's core and its rotation axis and rate. Good luck with that since it's under thousands of miles of rock and magma. -
Re:Nobody knows what generates the magnetism
The truth is, there is NOTHING at the center of the Earth, because the Earth is hollow. I mean, I saw about it on the Internet and if it's on the Internet, it has to be true!

But the "web" is crap by its very definition!
It's just shitty limited and slow apps on a shitty limited and slow platform.
You could literally give VirtualBox a URL bar, tabs, and a pre-loaded OS snapshot that gets copy-on-write cloned for every new tab, and you’d have the exact same thing but a thousand times better, and with no idiotic bad re-implementations of existing technology on top of itself. (OpenGL->WebGL; sockets->WebSockets; etc)

Re:population decline will not exist everywhere
There's good evidence that female education is the dominant factor affecting fertility rate.
A polite-company euphemism for saying "women can have it all" was a lie to get more of them in the workforce, increasing supply thus decreasing payroll costs.

If you look who sponsored that. Then find out that coca-cola sponsored that non profit. Then find out the 'indian' was an italian guy from new york.
We have been sold recycling as our problem. All so CC can save a few cents per bottle and externalize its garbage problem to us. Then make us feel guilty about it.
The power of advertising at work. So now I have to worry about which bin to toss my stuff in. When I used to just return it and get a 'deposit' back.

Progressive != Liberal
It's the leftist bias in tech/media that's the problem.

#t2sde can theoreically do this for a decade, too
Always when I read "major news" like this I feel a bit sad not having polished and pusedh this more in our T2 SDE Linux cross compile emebdded scripting source meta distribution thing: https://t2sde.org/ I compiled to macOS a decade ago to "emerge" Subversion from source and such, 2005/2006 time frame. I even used it to compile some MinGW runtime thing, to cross compile some of my code and test programs to Windows executables. Guess now w/ my new YouTube ad funded effort I could polish this more up again for just build more again – https://youtube.com/ReneRebe

Re:bullshit
Adverse effects (usually around one in a million for most vaccines for severe adverse reactions, one in ten for most mild ones). Correlation here is risk calculation and game theory, not "stupid parents".
It's as stupid at risk assessment as a guy who rides a motorcycle without a helmet, but refuses to get on an airplane because he's afraid of a crash.

Re:SC2 is bad.
You think that beating a pro in Starcraft is just a matter of clicking fast ?
Did you watch the games? In this case, it was more like precision than speed. All you need to do is program some basic strategies, then give the computer really good micro, and it will win.
To see examples of what computers can do, check this out. Here is another one (the stalker micro at 0:11 is very similar to what Deep Mind was doing). -

Maybe some player analysis?
We don't know exactly why Komincz won this game after losing the previous five.
Well you could start with MaNa's explanation:
We noticed that the agent sticks to the basic units a lot.
... It doesn't really transition out of it, like, it does make some upgrades but it constantly makes the basic units.... Our thought process is...the way that we should exploit agent play is...I should just make an immortal army, basically, but do not do anything besides that.... I can probably, most likely, defeat AlphaStar with simply better unit composition rather than unit control. He and TLO discussed how AlphaStar liked to make a lot of stalkers and rely on excellent control of them, so they used a strategy to counter that.
(The AI did run into some odd behavior as well, with all of its stalkers huddled against the edge of the map trying to get at MaNa's warp prism.)
