Re:Bull
There are youtube channels that show you how to build a plane capable of carrying a few kg for of $3 of parts purchased from the dollar store. It only takes a few minutes and $100 of electronics.
First up, nothing is 100% perfect, so lets' skip that red herring.
That said, your "drones r cheap" is half the point of forcing registration. For now a painted serial number is a easily quick web lookup away. How to pay for it? A $500 fine for an unregistered drone will cover it pretty fast. Cop sees you with a drone, inquires about registry and tickets you if yours is not registered. That's high enough that they have a $$$ incentive to enforce it (not that quotas exist, nooo). If it is registered? No big deal.
This will mainly be selectively enforced against terr'ah looking people I'm sure, but that's life. The $500 means lil Jimmy will get scanned once in a while too.
So the benefit is that if someone shows up and practices drone flight in the USA, we'll know who they are. If they are sketchy seeming, they'll be watched closer sooner, rather than spying on the HomeLand Artist guys who wrote "Homeland is Watermelon" all day equally.
If someone trains in IDontCaristan and comes here with a fully loaded explosive device, great planning and execution for them - we're no worse off in that corner case. That guy is probably using a much cheaper and more effective mortar anyway. But bumbling self inspired idiots? They'll get flagged in the first dozen times or so they takes it out to practice. That's the guy we CAN and should TRY to stop. Not crazy waste o time TSA crap. Give everyone a rubber truncheon, lock the door and we're good to go as far as that stuff is concerned. We'll beat half to death to death any brown people that can't wait to pee, much less actual terrorists...

http://nypost.com/2011/11/17/pilot-locked-in-lavatory-causes-unnecessary-terror-scare/
http://www.vice.com/en_ca/read/someone-did-a-shit-so-bad-a-british-airways-flight-had-to-turn-around-and-land-475Obviously I'd prefer the cops to have a binoculars to read the drone registration rather than forcing the pilot to recall/land mid flight and voice verify, maybe spend five minutes to let the guy demo his legit skill and use his charge normally, but I'd also like them not to shoot people over routine matters just because they don't lie down on the ground and play dead instantly.

No, I think that would be a bit higher on the scale.

Re:Anti-Governent Racist's Chemical Stockpile
Cool beans, I'll look it up and watch it. I was only joking when I'd read your post - I was like, "Hey, that'd be a great song potentially."
I went and found it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
I could not find the specific version mentioned but it was still a nice listen - thanks. I was pleased. I know the area, well. I've been all over that area - often, I've gone and sat in a bit with various groups or open mic nights at the blue grass fests. I enjoy that whole area - the people are people.
Anyhow, much appreciated.

You never talk to the police. I mean never. Be smart enough to realize that you're dumber than you think.

Even the old Ronco "Pocket Fisherman", an old staple of late night television advertising, could do an effective task against most drones at moderate range.

Re:Yknow what else is male dominated?
You remember gamergate, where a small handful of fake accounts that managed to be screenshot by feminist seconds after posting apparently meant a whole movement of men and women where misogynistic.
Here is a nice list of leading and major feminists saying batshit crazy things, right up to the level of Hillary Clinton.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?..."Why on earth do people like you keep bringing this up like it's some great revelation. It's trivially obvious."
Yes its trivially obvious, yet almost all of DV protection efforts are only aimed at men as aggressors, with DV most often shown to be a cycle learned from the parents you might then see why a one sided approach of telling men to man up and take a beating wont fix anything. -
Re:Yknow what else is male dominated?
Plenty of MRA work hard at education and trying to get support for these things, but then feminists come along and bomb threat them or try and push the organisations out of existence. KSU Men for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
Feminists have known since the *very* first shelter for battered women opened that those women in violent relationships were basically split 25/50/25 in the ranges of Genuine Abused victims/Co abusives as bad as their partners/True aggressive females.
And what did the feminists do the their own feminists who build the first shelter, the one who started to talk about how bad domestic violence is? They issued death threats against her because she wanted to open homes for men, they killed her pet dog and they drove her out of the country in fear for her life.
Erin Pizzey speaking about it all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
When men account for one third of the deaths due to domestic violence, but only about 100th of the media coverage, when mothers murder there own children at the same rate that fathers do, but fathers are treated as murderers and mothers as victims then it gets really hard to push for funding, when State level government departments say that men accounting for at least 1/3rd of victims is "an insignificant statics that does not need to be addressed" you start to understand how biased the "patriarchy" is against men.
Women are as bad as men, and a hell of a lot better at organising mobs to do their dirty work.

ACTUAL reason
They're doing this because they're worried about the dangers - not from commercial aviation - but from drones being used as assassination tools.
Slap some explosives and shrapnel on a drone, fly it into a press conference, like: This and this. Maybe use a gun, like this.
Why make it easy and effectively untraceable for someone to do this when you can regulate it?
Won't stop someone dedicated, who can learn and make their own drone - but it sure as hell raises the bar on them if they want to stay anonymous.I think there's a lot of politicians and bigwigs scared shitless over the possibility of citizens circumventing their massive security apparatus with such a simple device. They certainly know damned well just how unpopular they and their policies are, and their existing security just doesn't have any good way of stopping these things - though they're certainly working on it.

Re:Nintendo doesn't want to become history
Nintendo for years was like Apple - above reproach and doing it their own way, but now it's having to play everyone else's game for the sole reason that not enough people were playing their games.
Nintendo still very much is that way in the sense that they're control freaks when it comes to their own IP. In fact a lot of Japanese game developers are. If you peruse youtube a bit, you can find a lot of the people who upload their plays always complain about how Japanese companies are so hostile towards the gaming community, whereas game developers located basically anywhere outside of Japan aren't.
Example: (pardon the voice)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...Compare that to every other game developer in the world, who actively encourages gamers to upload play videos, etc. It's no wonder Japanese games have really fallen out of favor in every place in the world that isn't Japan. Oh, and this doesn't help either:

"I'm disappointed that those brilliant minds would waste them violating the laws of their own country and attacking their own people."
You're under the dangerous illusion the government worked for you. The rich want to keep control over the masses, their politics and public opinion. They do that via control of information.
In his 1970 book Between Two Ages: America's Role in the Technetronic Era, Brzezinski wrote the following.
"The technetronic era involves the gradual appearance of a more controlled society. Such a society would be dominated by an elite, unrestrained by traditional values. Soon it will be possible to assert almost continuous surveillance over every citizen and maintain up-to-date complete files containing even the most personal information about the citizen. These files will be subject to instantaneous retrieval by the authorities."

The internet is a threat to all institutions of power (aka the rich and their corporations). The free flow of information is detrimental to their goals and aims (profits and control over us).
The (mass surveillance) by the NSA/others and abuse by law enforcement is just more part and parcel of state suppression of dissent against corporate interests. They're worried that the more people are going to wake up and corporate centers like the US and canada may be among those who also awaken. Re:Koran 9:29
I have butted your post. It is you that does not understand Islam. You know a little, but miss more. I hope you will actually be a "nerd" and read and understand my post. You will then understand that you know far less about Islam that you suppose, and are in-fact providing cover for Islamic Supremacism (although unwittingly, it would seem). Remember, some people on the web know a lot more than you do - and humility and an open mind is the path to wisdom.
If you really do want to get up to speed with actual Islamic doctrine and how it pertains to the World today then I strongly recommend the following for you:
"Catastrophic Failure: Blindfolding America in the face of jihad"
http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ...
Or you can watch any of Stephen Coughlin's, or the Center for Security Policy's videos - they are condensed from briefings that he used to give to Flag Officers at the Pentagon. You cannot get a better source than that.Sorry to be so abrasive, but you make the mistake of so many Slashdotters in that because you are smart in one area you think that any point of view that is different from your own is "inaccurate", and use the snarky "please don't let facts or logic guide you. They are just minor inconveniences.". It never occurs to you that your own position might be based on correct but partial information and your interlocutor could know more than you do. If you use the Scientific Method you will stop making these errors and become a geek (skilled) rather than a nerd (wannabe).
Islam is the greatest totalitarian threat to Free Society that were have ever faced. It mixes the racism and supremacism of National Socialism with the totalitarianism of Soviet Socialism. And now that Islamism is allied with increasingly totalitarian Cultural Marxism of Progressive Socialism the Free People of the World are in for a hell of rough ride.
Fortunately Islam will be completely defeated because it is false and man-made (just like Scientology and Christianity - although Islam is far more deceptive and dangerous than either of those). To understand some of the evidence of how Islam's narrative is completely defeated by satellite imagery you can look at videos such as these (the Christians seem to be the only ones paying attention to this stuff - we atheists are too busy patting ourselves on the back to actually listen to Islamists or understand what is going on):
"An Historical Critique of Islams Beginnings - Jay Smith"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...Stop defending Sharia until you actually understand ALL the Islamic doctrines, please.

Re:Or put another way...
I doubt too many people had a problem with this one, or if they did, I can't remember.
I think if more advertisers focused on either being respectful to viewers, or tried to engage them in a creative, entertaining fashion, we probably wouldn't be having this discussion now. Consider the Super Bowl, and how one of the things people talk about is the interesting and funny ads debuted there. Sure, you can't spend money on ads like that all the time, but I think it shows that most people are not intrinsically opposed to ads... just annoying ads, or too many ads.

Re:Candidate Obama
The true sign of a supremacy
Is who gets to decide at each given minute
When the rule of law is applied and when it's suspendedYou can't spell justice without the US
And it's called justice cause it's just us that's justified
In judging just cause, just wars, and just evidence
Just test this justice and get just iced if you mess with us...
I'm reassured by the many who were plainly disturbed
And who questioned the way in which 'justice was served'
If it was served, it can be served to us just the same
So what brand of justice do we want done in our name? -

Why don't they just do this..
Enough with the stupid web page and TV advertising. Just create a YouTube account for your company or product and make video ads that are entertaining enough that they're likely to spread virally to one degree or another. As a benefit, you're no longer restricted by things like TV content restrictions (so you can make ads like that awesome un-aired Nutrigrain commercial made years ago, which actually increased sales of Nutrigrain bars: https://www.youtube.com/watch?... ). Monetize that YouTube account so you can make money from the views in addition to any money you make from the sales of your product.
No reckless and unwarranted chewing up of users' bandwidth. No malware. I personally could put up with a (skippable) 20-30 second ad in front of YouTube videos to keep YouTube flush.
Can't make entertaining ads? Sucks to be you.

Re:DevOps my understanding
This is going to sound insanely douchey (and I apologize in advance) but everything you have said is 100% wrong. At no point has Etsy ever run in AWS.
The only thing I can think of that might have had you confused is that John Allspaw (now CTO at Etsy) and Paul Hammond, presented at an early Velocity conference about work at Flickr:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
That talk was pretty seminal in the DevOps community but in no way has any bearing on anything you said.

Re:Still waiting for prices to drop...
The 4.5GHz is probably as good as its going to get as far as clock speed. If you haven't noticed, processors have multiple cores because the 5GHz barrier can't be broken at an economical price point. In fact, server processors are clocked at a lower clock speed to reduce power consumption and run far more multiple cores than consumer counterpart.

"We shouldn't be so willing, as a species, to sell our privacy in return for services."
Our reasoning is deeply flawed, see science on reasoning:

I'm sorry to tell you but the very structure of capitalist society makes it not even possible to defend yourself. In order to defend yourself from these practices you'd need lots of money and time, aka the ability to issue currency and a more socialized political economy, that would cause massive outrage in the upper classes and certainly piss of the oligarchs. You can't defend yourself when you're whole life depends on being a slave to business and you have no independent means of resources. AKA the business community can starve you out.

Re:a world we've been warning about for decades
"That's kind of sad, actually"
No it was actually the intent. The rich want to keep control over the masses, their politics and public opinion. They do that via control of information.
First, see the science on reasoning:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYmi0DLzBdQ
