Re:Shooter leftist anarchist, so now who's to blam
Criticizing the government, protesting and even hating is not a problem. Violence and incitement to violence is the problem. I do not know a poster similar to the crosshair one against Bush. Surely not endorsed by a democrat governor (or VP candidate!). Nothing like this either: http://www.dailykos.com/comments/2011/1/8/13371/41091/21#c21
Yes, when left protested against Bush it was all very peaceful and civilized.

Re:Cue Bush Derangement Syndrome
Then you're not paying attention. Threats on the president's life have skyrocketed since Obama took office. Right wing politicians fantasize about "second amendment remedies." There was a national day of prayer for his death.
Bullshit.
You're wilfully remaining ignorant if you truly believe that there was more venom directed agains Bush than against Obama.
Bullshit. Show me *anything* like this. And you haven't been in this country where you could actually see the *constant* hatred of Bush. You'd go to a theater or a musical piece and they'd just stop to spend a few minutes bashing the president. I had lecturers who couldn't resist insulting him, even when it was completely irrelevant.
I supported Bush initially assuming that he'd be a one termer who wouldn't do much. Then I was stuck constantly defending against these insane attacks. People were completely out of their gourd over the guy. One guy claimed that I was a chickenhawk for supporting Bush, and this was after I had already signed enlistment papers for the Army. I was accused of being a "torture apologist" because I defended waterboarding, something that our own guys go through in SERE school all the time.
The worst Obama gets are people who claim he didn't file his birth certificate. Bush had a 24 year CBS anchor take his career down in flames, desperately trying to prove that he missed drill at the national guard.
I know that Americans tend not to care what the rest of the world thinks about your country
That we can agree on. Here's the thing: you have no fucking clue what you're talking about. You get a sliver of headlines of American news filtered through editors whose sole incentive is to get you fired up.
So, please, shut the fuck up and take care of the problems in whatever country you're from before subjecting me to your ignorant lectures about the mental faculties of my fellow Americans whom you have never met.

Re:Cue Bush Derangement Syndrome
Can't see this over the Internet, but I assume you've got a teabag tied on your ear and a "LISTEN TO ME" sign in your hand.
Well, I definitely don't; I'm a Buckley conservative. But it's pretty funny to listen to liberals trying to claim the Tea Party is nuts.
The Tea Party was formed out of anger with Bush on a broad but specific issue: excessive government spending, which was then compounded by Obama's actions. And it is far more bipartisan than establishment liberals care to acknowledge.
Bush derangement syndrome started when Bush was a candidate; the NAACP ran an ad in 2000 claiming that electing him would be like dragging James Byrd through the streets of Texas. BDS is most prominent among the truther movements, and of course includes execrable characters like Julian Assange.
There's really nothing to defend about BDS because there aren't really any coherent arguments. It's basically all the things the liberals claim the Tea Party is. I'll take the Tea Partiers, who are merely amiably chaotic, over people the left gets to hang out with any day.

Re:MOD PARENT DOWN
News sites have editors that are many times more informed than their average reader.
Well, Reuters photo editors certainly do suck.
http://zombietime.com/reuters_photo_fraud/
Certainly interesting... but you could look at this practice as the photo equivalent of sensationalist headlines. We are so accustomed to the bullshit, it no longer bugs us.
What really irks me is that photographers have multiplied exponentially (maybe not pro news staffers, but regardless), and yet most Internet news stories have a single photo, if that. WTF? News sites are still treating web articles like page real estate is at a premium, and if they stuck another image there, they'd eat up the ad space or column space of other stories. Every web article should have a bunch of thumbnails to entire albums of photos... literally show the news every angle, and include maps, audio and video. I don't understand why they don't... digital media is cheap and readily at hand. If a news site did this, they'd become so popular they could charge anything they wanted for web ads.

Re:Well, actually,
The title was "you suck at photoshop" but I gotta say that I think they did a terrific job there hiding the truck with the dud missile. No trace of the original truck was visible, and they faded the trail and whatnot so that unless you were looking at the shape of the billowy dust cloud, you could easily have taken it to be a picture of four successful launches instead of the 75% (or less. we wouldn't be able to tell if it was cropped) of four launches.
They're certainly much better photoshop artists than whoever reuters got workin' for them.

Re:This is what linguists have been waiting for
Huh? What are we supposed to be nervous about, losing the election again? Stupid fucking liberals fucking up the country, that's something to worry about.
Most of us on the right just had this faint hope that after 8 years of nonstop whining the left might talk about something fucking else for a change.
So, though we figured Obama was going to be a complete fucking socialist, his whole hopenchange thing might mean liberals would stop whining about Bush.
No. Fuck no. Even The One can't make a single fucking speech without mentioning Bush. After all, he has not had a single successful initiative, domestic or foreign, in a full year. Even "Cash for Clunkers" has failed miserably. Since he can't take responsibility for anything he does, after 9 years of whining about Bush, you fucking liberals are going to keep whining about Bush for the next 3 years.

Flu shots in the era of John Holdren
We have a government with a Science Czar, John Holdren, who wrote in 1977 about ways to involuntarily sterilize the population by adulterating food and water supplies. Now we have a so-called influenza crisis. White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has famously said: "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste."
On what basis should we trust these people to inject us with anything?
And no, I don't believe the flu vaccine is adulterated to sterilize the population. It's unbelievable, like the government taking over the US auto industry or something equally crazy.
If the government is serious about fighting the flu, John Holdren and anyone else in the Obama Administration with similar views needs to resign as a good faith gesture to promote trust.

Re:Hmmm...
"I know if it had happened to Bush, the neocons would have had pitchforks in hand."
Really? You mean something like this? or maybe this?
Or for Bush-as-Hitler:
The fact is, this stuff was dirt common over the last eight years, and no neocons were freaking out, with or without pitchforks. This sort of thing is dumb now, but it was dumb then too, and nobody cared. What's the difference now? Just that you like Obama and didn't like Bush?
-
Re:Hmmm...
I wonder what they'd have done if they were there while Bush was in office if he had been similarly parodied? I know if it had happened to Bush, the neocons would have had pitchforks in hand.
I don't remember any neo-cons with pitchforks at these rallies.

Re:AP doesn't use altered images? Riiiight...
Actually, I think the incident mentioned by the GP was Reuters not AP. But, that doesn't mean AP doesn't have it's own scandals that I am not aware of or that haven't been discovered.
-
I doubt they will stick with that...
Considering how often the AP hilariously augments their stories with badly 'shopped images, it's obvious at least some of them just do a google image search for something that looks like a related press photograph.
Do you think Reuters ever got blacklisted?
-
yeah...
Because if there's going to be any altering of photos for impact, it damn well is going to be done by the media themselves! Wouldn't want to subvert their authority to alter perception now would we?

There are somethings we shouldn't tolerate
what gays and lesbians want is the right to be gays in lesbians. what gays and lesbians do in the privacy of their own homes in no way affects you whatsoever
I'm not so sure about that. San Francisco is clearly the leader in being gay-friendly, and look what they end up with:
Up Your alley Fair 2008
You can choose blurred, or unblurred pictures. If this kind of public spectacle is what we end up with then maybe some stuff needs to be pushed back into the closet.
So, coincidentally, where homosexual rights have been most clearly advanced in this country, we end up with public displays of:
1. Nudity
2. Masturbation
3. Urination on other people
4. Oral sex
5. BSDMYou'll note that several celebrants are men dressed up as boy scouts. I seem to recall on ongoing issue with the boy scouts and gay scoutmasters, yet here we have a rather creepy affinity displayed for boy scouts during an event that quite clearly is about gay sexual activities.
To be fair, I haven't seen a whole lot of lesbians engaging in this sort of behavoir.
I really don't care what two dudes do in the privacy of their own home, but it's instructive to see what happens when the city and community puts the stamp of approval on what passes for a 'lifestyle.'
No decorum, no decency. No self-restraint. Pedophiles wearing their desires on their sleeves. Public sex acts. Public humiliations (pissing on each other). Masturbating onto cheering crowds from a window.
Leaving aside simple blow jobs, several of the acts that occurred in that event are evidence of deep-seated, severe psychological problems suffered by the participants. Yet in the name of 'tolerance' and 'gay rights', we end up with these deranged acts celebrated amidst cheering crowds.
Being gay used to come with a great deal of shame. We have removed that shame, and in return, we see shameful, disgusting, revolting acts in public.
The participants of "Up your Alley 2008" quite frankly justify the stigma previously attached to homosexuality.

Re:Umm...and this is NEWS???And we *all* know exactly how honest the average journalist in the mainstream mass American media is these days.
Actually, Time magazine's Managing Editor, Richard Stengel was recently very honest about the nature of modern journalism during a speech at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Miss.: "I didn't go to journalism school," Stengel said. "But this notion that journalism is objective, or must be objective is something that has always bothered me - because the notion about objectivity is in some ways a fantasy. I don't know that there is as such a thing as objectivity." "[F]rom the time I came back, I have felt that we have to actually say, 'We have a point of view about something and we feel strongly about it, we just have to be assertive about it and say it positively,'" Stengel said. "I don't think people are looking for us to ask questions, I think they're looking for us to answer questions."
He made his remarks to defend the Time magazine cover image of Marines raising an American flag at Iwo Jima with the flag replaced by a tree. He told the audience it was an attention ploy.
"My feeling is you have to grab people by the lapels and say, 'Hey, pay attention' and that was the idea of doing this," Stengel said. "[I] just think you can't be squeamish about trying to get people's attention."
Anyways, this bit from TFA is especially outrageous, in light of Stengel's comment:
The decision recalled other administration tactics that subverted traditional journalism. Federal agencies, for example, have paid columnists to write favorably about the administration. They have distributed to local TV stations hundreds of fake news segments with fawning accounts of administration accomplishments. The Pentagon itself has made covert payments to Iraqi newspapers to publish coalition propaganda. How is this any different than, say, American media outlets using stories reported by Reuters and AP stringers who have been known to submit fake images to support false statements in their articles?
Anyway, the claim that the Pentagon's effort are "subverting traditional journalism" is hilarious. According to Stengel, the point of "journalism" is to provide ready-made "answers," and to shape the news that gets reported according to the individual journalist's beliefs and opinions. Somebody else already said it better than I'd be able to:
it's no secret that the Pentagon-and every other branch of government-routinely provides background briefings to journalists (including columnists and other purveyors of opinion), and tries to influence their coverage by carefully doling out access. It is hardly unheard of for cabinet members-or even the President and Vice President-to woo selected journalists deemed to be friendly while cutting off those deemed hostile. Nor is it exactly a scandal for government agencies to hire public relations firms to track coverage of them and try to suggest ways in which they might be cast in a more positive light. All this is part and parcel of the daily grind of Washington journalism in which the Times is, of course, a leading participant.
Bottom line? The media is not objective. Everyone has an agenda. Just so happens that most mainstream media outlets have a leftist bias. Also just so happens that most successful talk radio has a conservative bias. Anyone claiming to be "impartial" is not telling the truth. -
Re:Losing my faith in politicsYou're right. Maybe I should have said "far left". You can not deny the raw hatred that comes from the far left of this country. Granted, I'm sure there is just as much from the far right (the KKK for example), but Republicans tend to distance themselves from that level of politics. I don't see a whole lot of Democrats calling Code Pink, ANSWER, MoveOn.org, Air America, Huffington Post, Daily Kos and so one what they truly are. You may want to look at yourself. This attack is laughable and shrieks of parody. I have. I have never compared Clinton to Hitler. Unfortunately, it's not just the "FAR" left that does it. Take a look at MSNBC's highest rated commentator comparing Bush to Hitler. At Huffington, you see comments like the following: * "Like her evil husband, she has lived far too long. Here's hoping the hag suffers for several weeks, then croaks in the tub."
* "The old bat will probably steal everything in the hospital room."
* "I feel no pity for the b---- who took delight in watching thousands die of a horrible disease and watching the poor having to eat out of dumpsters because of her husband's political beliefs." They are speaking of Nancy Reagan when she was in the hospital.
You don't see me carrying signs calling for the forced sterilization of Democrats.
You don't see me comparing Democrats to Nazis. ...
Or calling for war against the US.
Other quotes from Huffington Post:
(talking about Dick Cheney) I'm embarrased that this guy hasn't had a heart-attack yet. The kind that end's life.
Get a rope for Dick..
hang cheney for war crimes this week.
hang cheney for treason against america this week.
hang cheney. And that is just page 1.
And that is just after about 2 minutes research....
Nope, sorry. I never called Clinton Hitler. I never called for the overthrow of our government when a Democrat was in office. I never accused our soldiers in Bosnia of war crimes. I've never hoped for the miserable death of anyone on the left side of the aisle (or their families!). Sorry, but I'm nothing like these people. Maybe you should remove your partisan colored glasses when you read Huffpo or any of the other left wing sites to see what I'm talking about. What I've offered here is just an sampling of the hate coming from the left. All of it is over the line and none of it is justified. -

Hypocrisy times a thousand
It's funny that a bunch of Muslims get all upset over a picture of Prophet Mohammad Bomb-for-a-head, while not making nearly quite a fuss over a bunch of Danish Muslim leaders distributing their own image of Paedophile Mohammed (an obvious reference to Mo having a 9 year old girl for a wife[1]) in order to incite more hatred against Danish cartoonists.
The fanatics seem to be oblivious to the Streisand Effect. The Mohammad Image Archive makes for fascinating reading.

Mohammed image archive
Zombietime's Mohammed Image Archive has a collection of most of the available images of Mohammed. The oldest dates from 67 years after his death, and is from a coin in the British Museum.
The site also has an archive of their incoming hate mail on this subject, some of which is quite funny.

It's not bad news
It's not bad news, it's good news. If the Al-Haramain lawyers were allowed to use their "recollections", they could say anything, and the only effective defense the govt would have would be to produce the documents and thus reveal state secrets.
All that aside, neither the govt nor the Al-Haramain lawyers actually want the top secret documents revealed. The govt because the information is top secret and would harm ongoing investigations; the Al-Haramain lawyers because even though the documents may prove standing the govt illegally wire-tapped them, would also show Al-Haramain's guilt in funding world-wide terrorism. Remember, copies of these documents were sent to Al-Haramain in Saudi Arabia - they could have been released already with no legal consequence by Al-Haramain in Saudi Arabia.
What Al-Haramain really wants is for the federal courts to restrict wire-tapping - any wire-tapping - as much as possible. Why? Take a wild guess.
Here is the best source for details about this conflict and Al-Haramain terrorism links.

Holy CRAP! You're right! How dare Slash post something that is not "left-approved". Truth is irrelevant if it does not tote the party line and must be silenced at all costs! /sarc off
How is it that people from the right are called fascists when the left employs brownshirt tactics like this? Truth is truth. It doesn't have a political slant.
I, for one, do not welcome our conservatives overloads who call their political opponents traitors, communists, socialists, or un-American.
I would call ANSWER a political opponent. What does Wikipedia say about them? ANSWER characterizes itself as anti-imperialist, and its steering committee consists of socialists, Marxists, civil rights advocates, and left-wing progressive organizations from the Muslim, Arab, Palestinian, Filipino, Haitian, and Latin American communities. Many of ANSWER's leaders were members of Workers World Party (WWP) at the time of ANSWER's founding, and are current members of the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), a Marxist-Leninist organization that formed in 2004. Now why would we call them traitors, communists, socialists or un-American? I'm curious. What does a group have to do to be called these things?

More right-wing anti-hybrid FUD shit for brains AM-radio-whore bull crap.
Too many Slashdot commentators express the tiresome drivel of banner carrying leftists. They lack any reasonable commentary skills. Trying to marginalize the deliverer of an argument with crude language is an example of weak thinking that is on display at http://www.zombietime.com/. -
Re:garbage in garbage outAl-Reuters?
Puhlease.
You're either a radical Zionist zealot or an LGFer.
Spare us your paranoia. The pictures speak for themselves. One need not be on the side of Zionism to see that Hezbollah plays a pretty good game of propaganda. I particularly like the ubiquity of Green Helmet Guy, the apparent Hezbollah media director.
Face it, all those assholes in that part of the world who are at each others throats are same. It's political shitheads like that on both sides that make life unpleasent for normal folks. -
Proof that..
experience is a necessary but insufficient condition for expertise. Look at the second picture, also by your good friend Hajj: http://zombietime.com/reuters_photo_fraud/
You know, the one with the cloned "missles" that were actually flares?
Oops.
He's done it before, you'd be blind not to think he did it again with this photo. -
Re:Uhhh, perhaps some non-biased humans are needed
That was the point. The photos weren't from Zombie. They were from photographers/stringers over in the Middle East. In this case, I believe it was from Lebanon, during the recent war involving Hezbollah and Israel. Zombie inspected several of the more poignant images that came from the war and were posted on Reuters. She's (I believe it's a her) claiming shenannigans.
In case you don't understand (rather than making a rhetorical comment), the toys ARE suspiciously clean. Which, if it were in a builing that had been bombed to rubble... makes little sense. Along with the other toys and childrens' articles. That's one of Zombie's points, along with various other images she's deconstructed and replied on. She covers a bit of photo manipulation, but that's after a photo's been taken. There's ways to manipulate the scene prior to taking an image, and she goes after that.
Folks should read her report with an open mind.
