    It was a very secure system far ahead of Microsoft. The problem was the IBM marketing department and the rush to beat Microsoft to market.
    In its day it was the underlying O/S for many ATM networks do to its security and journaling disc system. You could literly remove power and when the system came back up it would continue with the task it was working before power down.

    This person was "known" to the FBI and Local authorities
    He was known to have been sympathetic to ISIS by the FBI
    He had been brought up on charges of domestic abuse.
    He was known to be unstable.
    There is no reason he should have been able to get a license to carry let alone, have been able to purchase a weapon.
    The problem is that he could have been flagged as a person that should not be able legally to purchase weapons or ammo.
    We have a national registry for firearms we just don't use it correctly
    That being said the black market would be the place he would turn to, to make a purchase. In this case the seller of the weapon should be held accountable for actions taken with said weapon

  13. Having worked in an industry that monitored critical infrastructure equipment, we used to keep these behind firewalls in an RFC 1918 space.
    The reason why they are connected is that these SNMP and Modbus devices are passively monitored for accuracy, trouble issues, power usage and capacity, But lately there has been an increase in active configuration through derived equations to shed loads , remotely start and stop generators, HVAC systems, etc...
    Not having them password protected is an epic fail

    I wonder how many of those 11,000 unique visits were accidental or a product of phishing(goatse.cx)
    Now granted I think this is deplorable and disgusting (think of the Children!)
    But I think they need to really scrutinize the data that they have so that innocent mistakes/typos/bad linkage are not falsely accused

    Soldered a rather large capacitor on the power side of an amplifier on a circuit board and reversed the polarity accidently.
    Plugged it in and hit power. Destroyed the rest of the components around it and stunk up the house for a week

    I think this is a bad idea. When you oppress ideas you drive those ideas underground where they will fester over time.
    At least out in the open there is an ability to debate and possibly change a destructive mindset.

    I often wonder if some of these high tech companies have considered leaving the U.S in light of these types of campaigns.
    Moving to a more friendly country that would ensure the sanctity of the company from these types of intrusions?
