Anyone who has read sci fi knows that this stuff has been around for about 40 years.
Uh, hold on. Sci-fi is great, but come on. Reading about something in a novel 40 years ago is entirely different from knowing that it actually exists today (or has in the past).
In the late 80's I read about an air launched anti-satelite missile being developed by the USAF. They were to be deployed for launch by equipped F-15's. The F-15 is powerful plane, being able to take-off and immediately accelerate through supersonic speeds at 90 degrees, a rather unique ability (although I believe F-22 is capable now too). The idea was to simply have them available on stand by at major air bases, but otherwise not to be carried or seen as regular equipment. I only read about this in one book, then never heard about it again. Could be myth, but it's really not hard to imagine something along these lines.
If memory serves me, the modern broadcast video is entirely dependent on computers, networks and I.T. to be exist as it does today. With computers being the nebling technology, it seems odd to propose any kind of future where TV controls, rivals, or even comes close to the capabilities offered by the computing world.
Interactive TV? V-Chip? Common. Video on demmand? Maybe.
But why watch any live video if it's not some format of live news? TiVo is only the tip of the iceburg. I want to watch the latest episode of my favourite show. Not when it wasproduced. Not when it was televised or broadcasted. I want to watch it when I sit down and select it.
...64-bit computing is boarding - don't miss the train!
Miss the train? Miss the train? How could you possibly miss the train? As 64 bit computing comes into the market, 32 Bit will gradually move out (not unlike 8 and 16 bit have previously done). So when you need buy new systems, you're gonna eventually end up buying into the 64 bit thing.
It's all good, but it's not like you need to buy now, or forever miss the train!
Sun Tzu's Art of War is also the first that I can remember. Played that day after day. You had swordmen and archers. Maybe Pikemen too. Top down 2D view. 4 colours only. As you moved your men around the map, the different terrain affected speed and offense/defense hiderances. You simply had to kill all opposing units.
It was followed up a year or maybe two years later by Art Of War At Sea. Independently maneuver your sailing vessels and fire their cannons (left or right barrage only). Classic elemntery naval tactics. 4 or maybe even 8 colours.
A little too sophisticated for most people at the time.
In your opinion with regards to say, your own favorite films, what seems more effective in producing a great film? Spending the bulk of $$ on FX, or on good writing, directing and acting? With all the money and talk being poured into better and better computer effects, which are automatically dated by the fact that they are constantly improving in almost everyway, do you feel that enough attention is begin given to the basics? (i.e. writing, acting and directing)
Sure it would be nice to go sooner, but what's so important about getting there in the next 20 years? If we are going to bother going there, why not wait a bit more for the money, the technology and the plan itself to develop properly. If I were going to mars, I'd make it worth my while.
I've had this book for a while, it's a nice supplement to any Tolkien collection. Forget D&D artwork, this book breathes a Tolkienesque feel.

Um, WAS from Saudi Arabia. He was kicked out the country and hides in many places such as Afghanistan for good reason. Even fail to recognize this. More accurately, he was formerly Saudi Arabian.
all the people that have tried to sue them... for wasting time. We need to focus on building rocket ships so we can get our forsaken populas off this rock!
Yeah I agree. Other drivers should be able to relate a bad impression of your driving if you cut them off or do something stupid. A horn doesn't always cut it and how do you get a plate number (let alone remember it) when you're just trying to avoid a collision?
Regarding lock-downs, rental companies and high end cars have been using cell-modems to communicate with the cars directly, including position info and total lock-down/shut-off commands in reported cases of theft, etc. Heck, in some places they even leave the keys in hanging in the key hole of the trunk while the cars are parked in the rental car lots.
True. 'Stealth' is often depicted and interpreted to mean 'undetecable'. In fact should be interpreted to mean 'less detectable'. Stealth aircraft employ a wide range of technologies to reduce their chance of detection. This does not mean that they are undetectable. However, it may mean that older , less accurate or less sophisticated equipment may well not be able to detect the craft at all. Meanwhile, newer detection techniques may well be improvised to counter any Stealthy technologies which a craft might employ.
I've heard tell that the Chinese have demonstrated another way to indirectly detect radar stealthy aircraft. Use an 2 or more sensitive doppler radar stations the air thrust distrubance left behind the aircraft can be detected at close-medium ranges. The disturbance path points with close approximation to the aircraft's actual position.
I'm not familiar with the accuracy and effectiveness of this approach.
Anime to watch:
Akira
Spirited Away
Princess Mononoke (sp?)
Bubblegum Crisis
Appleseed

Actually, the B-2 flies high 50,000+ ft. The F-117 flies low, especially when nearing it's target. Quite low in fact, less than 3,000 ft. I believe.
