  2. Re:Account blocking? on Nintendo Blocks Homebrew Installation · · Score: 1

Dont worry, Online play is soo painfully awkward that you will not do it anyways. Nintendoes practice is they make you share console codes to exchange messages. For some games that is not enough so some games have a game code that you have to share. There are websites devoted to exchange of codes. It is more painfull than trying to activate windows over the telephone.

Sounds great but they mentioned that the robot was programmed with x models of cars. It would need (and realistically probably does) some kind of tracking system to pinpoint the flap to open (without scratching the car)

The height of the car is dynamic; people lower their cars, lower their standards of women (fat chicks need loving too).

I drive a motorcycle I wouldnt want some stupid robot spilling gas on my crotch or the paint.

I do however support his claim to have donated the monies collected the the university. Again however this is not news its the guys blog, a first hand report with no supporting evidence. For all you dreamers who think that this guy is a saint of civil liberties this guy could very well had the city pay his legal fees (undiscloased settlement) and he could have bought a 50" plasma tv (likly not at Circuit City). Like the previous responce noted that both these weapons, as well as the israeli TAR-21 the ammo is located in behind but the ammo is not the primary function nor a handgrip.

The main differences between these and the 'standard' rifles like the m16/c7 are that the but is replaced with the firing assembly making it shorter. They are still made to be right had fired with the left hand on the forstock or grip.

Anyhow I am getting off topic here. The primary function is the trigger and it 'should' generally be placed for the right hand to use as most of us are right handed. I understand that its a difficult thing to accomplish due to the constraints of having to stick the analog joystick on it.

IMO firing with the right hand in front with my left hand on the back will be awkward and I believe will reduce the immersiveness of the game rather than just using the 2 seperate controllers. I would rather have a pistol grip attachment with trigger so I could aim better and have the nunchuk hang from that.

  21. Wierd Ergonomics on Wii Zapper To Have Zelda Pack-In Title · · Score: 2, Interesting

I don't know about in Japan but all the weapons I have fired through my army training always have the trigger in the rear. It may be a little odd to have the controls reversed especially for the majority populus being right handed.

I guess it would be difficult to arrange otherwise though, the nunchuk would have to be placed in the front and grip and the trigger extended rearwards.

  23. I'm getting tired of us 'Geeks' always criticizing on Turned Off iPhone Gets $4800 Bill from AT&T · · Score: 1

I recently got a new 8830 which came with no paper manual. There was no notice that informed me that there was a manual included on the CD but I new there would be because of my geek knowledge. The average layman user may get one of these advanced toys because of the style factor or MP3 player or whatever would not have the same knowledge base as one of the average /. readers.

These devices are more than a fancy cell phone with email, it has mp3 and other pda functions. I could understand that the user tryed to turn it off using the off button and not knowing that it is still on. If my phone goes in sleep mode there is still an led indicator which probably is not the case with the iphone. This user may brought his phone with him to store information about his day trip or airplane tickets or may just have brought it to use for mp3s, it really is not up to us to call him an idiot based on this.

As our devices get more complex and the UIs are trying to get more simple but the average user often gets forgotten. As more of these advanced devices become available more average users are buying them. I would guess that more than 75% of phones have cameras built in.

A recent example would be when my father purchased a home theatre system and he could not figure out how to connect it. Years ago one would connect all the coax cables yellow to yellow, red to red, etc to their prospective inputs but now there is hdmi, dvi a&d, component, etc. If its hdmi is it 1.0 or 2.0 both of which may or may not pass audio on the hdmi cable, which is fully capable of it. It took me, which I would call myself an edjucated user, 8 hours to get the system installed including 2 second trips to the store beacuse the manual, sony's, did not state some limitations of its device.

I would say that the average user would have a basic to intermediate understanding of how most of there computer programs operate. Most users probably could not backup their computers and re install windows because they got a rootkit from a cd they wanted to listen to. The average user probably does not have a huge collection of mp3s or know much about drm. As we age the younger generations are growing with this knowledge but I know several people my age (25) that would not have known that the device when off may actually be still on but in an alternate state.

As our devices get more complex and mainstream more than just the savvy business people and the hardcore geeks are purchasing these devices and we should be building to tailor to these new users just as much as to the tech savvy. I do not promote adding something like an any key to a keyboard but give complete manuals with details but also something simple. Dont call (radio)OFF the airplane mode having a icon of an airplane.

Someone mentioned pull the sim card, what if this phone had a cdma mode which often do not have a card.

---The users are not always ignorant, technology is getting more complex leaving the average user behind. The VCR clock was a perfect example of this years ago.

I would have no problem if a store manager came to me and asked to see my recipt if I was under suspicion of theft if it clears my name. The store should have a right to protect its property. 2) Not giving your licence to an officer of the law, or any ID for that matter should be labled as suspect. Any person with a reasonable concionce would have no problem complying with law investigations or inspections. Some people obviously go too far but the majority are moral and do their jobs well. I think this guy was just out for a money grab and finding a way to dig up a lawsuit to make a quick buck. Not the metion the fact that he is now taking donations on his website to help with fees.
