    I do emergency room software; and well, It depends....

    Windows is most definitely the most deployed workstation in a hospital environment.
    Go to the server room, and you will see the entire gambit from shiny new HP servers, down to small mainframes. This holds true for almost all hospitals over 30 beds.

    So, if your deploying software to the workstation: .Net.
    If your deploying server based software, do whatever you do best: Linux, Sun, VMS, .NET, hell COBOL.

    And forget about security, hospitals are about as secure (inside the FW) as an open cash box.
