Small kids are not really strong enough to really hurt anyone
So many snarky responses are coming to mind...
The worry is that the small kids are especially impressionable, not that they are especially dangerous.
When people assert that video game violence doesn't lead to real-life violence, they're thinking too narrowly. Children may be affected in any number of ways.
(As an aside, did you see The Butterfly Effect? Considering the cast and concept, it was surprisingly good. In one very memorable scene, a young kid totally wrecks a guy. I think that was one of the most disturbing things I've seen in a movie. Imbue them with an inexplicable capacity for harm, and children become very scary.)
I was thinking "how are those exclusive of each other?" This will *obviously* be another try from Microsoft to beat Apple's iPod, regardless of whether it succeeds. Is there something like slashdot, but with better English? This is getting tiresome.
TA refers to a 44"-wide television at 96" (eight feet).
arctan(22/96) = 12 degrees of the 100% degrees that we've assumed. So the proposed display setup uses 24%, or 1,440 of the 6,000 horizontal pixels that the parent calculated. This is consistent with TA's assertion that 720p is closer to the actual resolving power of the eye.
The assumption of a 50" screen at 96" viewing distance is fair, but you only have to sit two feet closer to see all the pixels in a 1080p display.
(I hope I get rich so I can buy fancy TV equipment some day =D)
When I checked in at the Airport to come home from Shanghai, they told me that these were forbidden on planes. Does anyone know why? I majored in physics, and the reason that these might cause a problem is not obvious to me.
Aren't you worried about introducing more loss when you convert from one lossy format to another? As long as it's convenient to play.wma, I'm just going to keep a copy in that format, even if I convert it to mp3 for use in an ipod.
If you really wanted to switch to Vista you could back up your mp3s on CD or to a hard disk, in case Vista messes with them. Actually, that's a good idea in general, in case you get one of those MAFIAA viruses. It happened to my girlfriend once: my documents\my music\ got nuked.
I agree with you in principle, but I've seen some movies in which no-name actors deliver really lousy performances. Even slobs like Keanu Reeves usually don't *detract* from the movie, so I have to say that these big-name actors and the money they make are justified on some level.
This is probably redundant as you've been modded down, but there's no indication that low-frequency (below visible) radiation has anything to do with cancer.
I'm glad to see numbers, but where's the link?;) Never mind, found it.
The mac does pretty well in that comparison. I built your Dell for under $1200, maybe you had XP Pro? I started from the bottom-of-the-line d620, which permits Home. Still, it's less of a difference than I expected.
Ah, here's the reason. You're not giving the d620 credit for all it's ruggedizing features (shock-mounted hard drive, magnesium-alloy case. More information here). It would be better to compare the Macbook to an Inspiron E1405 like this one, which has the same specs (I even got the upgrade to 667 MHz memory, though I've read that it doesn't improve performance) for almost $300 less.
Also, if you require a video card or if you don't want a DVD burner, the d620 gains ground against the Macbook.
By the way, what's so special about the black one? If you get the $150 upgrade from the 80 GB to the 120 GB harddrive in the white one, it's the same machine for $50 less. Is it just a style thing?
(And why is the hard drive upgrade so expensive anyway? $150 for 40 GB more space is insane.)
Wealthy artists are conspicuous. Many excellent artists have what aspiring artists would see as a successful career (multiple albums, enough of a living not to need another job) without becoming wealthy. The Roche Sisters, for instance.
I'm just trying to say that only a small proportion of successful artists become obscenely wealthy.
He wasn't a musician, but Robert Anton Wilson, a novelist and philosopher (check him out, it's interesting stuff) died last month in poverty.
Depending on what window decorations you use, the upper right pixel on the screen does different things. In my current window decorations, it doesn't do anything (I guess it de-focuses the current window:\) which isn't really optimal. In plastik, the current default KDE decorations, it lets you resize from that point.
I want to agree with you, that the GNOME bar makes it harder to close windows quickly, but it seems that some adjustment is needed after throwing the cursor regardless of whether the GNOME bar is up there.
In GNOME I found that the middle of the top bar is completely wasted, so I ditched the top bar in favor if a kde-style panel at the bottom. Now I'm using KDE and I have the wonkiest panel configuration ever, with one panel on each screen, at the left and right sides. Vertical taskbars are nice, because the amount of filled space gives you really fast visual feedback about the number of tasks running.
If the GNOME double-panel scheme is good for anything, it's branding.
It's sexy to have a device that can actually self-destruct. This is the flash drive that James Bond would use.

Even if we can beam it... that is just asking for trouble.
You played SimCity 2000 too? I have to say that game put me off Microwave power for good.
I don't see why people should have to buy Vista if they're simply going to keep running XP.

Good lord! That's enough power for 100-200 laptops!
Wait...There are places that get earthquakes literally *all* the time?
With bluetooth the need to have it all in one box is reduced.

Considering all the motivation in the DDR community to rip arcade art, stepcharts, songs, dancer models, scan for secrets,...
I guess the DDR community doesn't have good hackers. Not surprising, really. Nobody that I know [who has any hacker cred at all] is interested in DDR.

Where's the beef? Why isn't he right?
most people with portable music players already get their tracks by ripping CDs.
Don't forget about piracy.

But look at that keyboard! Man I should really just cough up the dough for a buckling-spring board, so I can stop being jealous.
Methane is lighter than nitrogen and oxygen, which make up the majority of our atmosphere. Even on a still night, methane is escaping upward.

Have you read the comments on digg? We don't want them here anyway. It's better that they leave.

I didn't mean that the RIAA is good for artists. Far from it. I was just offended that you were suggesting that all the artists had so much money.
