Well when you change jobs do you still talk to all the people in your old job, even the ones you kinda got along with...
Probably not. The fact that Shatner isn't in much contact with the rest of the cast. Isn't so much that he is so hated by the cast, but more to the concept was they were never really much of friends anyway.
But more to the fact that you do not have the energy to keep up with that type of work, as well as some jadedness to the industry.
Also the Nights and Weekends for projects is actually kinda over-rated. I have worked with many developers cross many industries. Usually the guys who work late, start late. They might work weekends in the rare cases, where after working weeks/months on a project 40 hours a week they are 8-16 hours short of their goal so they make it up.
Well... It would a bit However there are other disasters to consider from doing such activity that would make carbon footprint seem like a moot point.
That and the most of the Carbon problem we have isn't from our biology but from our use of fuels. Which is in essence the Carbon Collected by these lifeforms after they died. Basicly we are using the stuff that was collected years ago.
If you care about having the ports in the front... Put the Mac Mini facing backwards. Or sideways... It is just a small box not like it is a big bulky thing like a VCR player. Being that the device is ascetic it means you can place it in a more visibile spot where you can easily reach your arms around it and plug in the USB devices from behind.
No you use the apple innovative cooling system. Of picking it up and dropping it for the circuits to reseat themselves. In reality I think the heat generated from the Power Block is small compared to what the CPU does. And the existing power cooling system may be good enough for it.
Why are you trying to compare yourself with sales?
Sales is usually based purely on commission. Do you want to be paid by commission? For most engineers they would probably say no. Because if their Idea doesn't work, no matter how much you work on it, you won't get paid. Or you work on a project and the sales guy doesn't sell it well... Then you don't get paid. You will get paid when your project works and it sells.
So the sales guy has more risk on the table thus he gets paid more... So he makes 300k vs your 200k but, your 200k is guaranteed vs. the 300k based on commission and is at risk of getting a lot less if there is a temporary drop in sales.
but... The summary says... "for putting warning labels on copies of historical US documents, including the Constitution. "
Doesn't that mean this document will have a lot of historical documents written in it. There is a lot of language that is not PC today, the label probably isn't even meant for the constitution, but for slavery laws, gender bias, and race bias.... A lot of the nasty things that we are not to proud of in our history.
Even the Constitution has part in it that we no longer handle slaves are counted a 1/3 for districting.... Crazy stuff like that. I say it is a fair warning.
Compared to buying all the macs and giving them to the students, to use for 4 years then they will need a new one.
Personally I think the use of computers for education is grossly overrated. However if you are going to do it. and help pay part of the bill for something required is cheaper then buying a bunch and giving them to the kids.
What I would love to see is some standardization for SQL languages. It would be nice to take an App say say in PostgreSQL then use it in Oracle if you find that you need to go to a bigger infrastructure... As well move down, as a lot of apps are running on DB servers that are too big for their use. While the language has some nice features it would be much better to have an updated set of common function and calls so you can make your SQL more cross platform. A lot of the real work behind SQL isn't much in the Language but in what is happening underneath.
Because Licensing is the least of their costs... $200 per employee... For a license so what, heck it normally is less and comes with the PC.
What really would be expensive would be training people to use a different operating system. Linux actually has a doughnut hole in its UI. Where it is easy for Grandma to use and it is great for the Teck guys... But the computer literate average joe who know how to do a lot of stuff. Having to relearn all the little changes is going to hit their performance.
Next is all those 3rd party apps and custom written ones... Sure sometimes moving from XP to 7 some of those apps will need to be redone a bit... However it is much smoother process then remaking the apps. If they have all Web Apps it may be easier however that isn't as common as it should as only within the last 5 years web apps have been able to really compete with normal apps. Redoing them is expensive and will not offer any real business advantage. Besides there are often some tools that they may use that there is compatible version CAD comes to mind.
Hardware costs... If you install a Linux box and your hardware doesn't work correctly it is your own damn fault for not seeing if it is supported or not, or like Dell it comes preloaded with Linux there is a slim chance your upgrade will work. So you will be paying more for custom systems that support Linux.
New admin policies. So you have a bunch of windows admins and support people... Now they switch to all Linux. What are you going to do fire all your old admins and hire and retrain new ones. Retrain you current set and have them all on new footing...
If your company didn't start off as a Linux/Unix company moving to Linux will be tough... If you are a Linux/Unix company moving to an other platform will be just as tough.
It is a case Moving from XP to 7 is expensive... But Moving from XP to Linux is even more so.
The real question is What is the business need to upgrade to windows 7. If XP does what you need to do there isn't a good reason to upgrade.
Once there is then you will do it. In the mean time you can use your system longer and get better value out of your investment.
The problem with video games is they fall into a doughnut hole for creativity, that is compatible with movies. Books, Plays and TV shows are very detailed and the characters have been fleshed out, making it easy to make a good movie off of because a lot of the work is done. It becomes more of a case of what to remove, to fit in the time slot.
Theme rides, which may cover just a basic plot concept, in essence the introductions, some simple type of conflict, and a clear resolution. Make it easy for the movie makers to fill in the gaps. a 20 Minute ride expanded to a 90 minute movie. Allows a lot of expansion and growth, and as which has been stated before, no one really expecting that you follow the basic plot.
Video Games are really in a tough spot, good ones have characters and plots However the plots are based on interactivity with the player so there are some gaps. And a lot of the guys who you try to kill doesn't necessarily want you to feel any sympathy for them. Also a lot of the plot is based on one character. Lets say we make a movie on Kings Quest... This one lone guy just wondering around the forest finding junk to use elsewhere. In order to make a good movie with it, it will need to be remakes and the plot that you know and actually felt that you were involved in has been altered.
Now that Apple is the worlds largest tech company they probably will need to cut down a lot of secrete stuff nonsense. We all know there will be an other iPhone model. Or a new laptop even a new iPod... I think their last surprise was the Intel switch, other then that it was just normal upgrades. Even if apple says we are going to release a new iPhone at WWDC that will have a faster CPU and give some tech specs... It probably wont hurt Apple in the least. Even if it means selling the older models at a discount. Because right now Apple fans are waiting for the next upgrade to get a new version anyways.
I am not too sure about the Smited from above thing. The last time that happened we got some objection. And the Human-Diety got smited, not the guys who were objecting.
They were not interfering with medical care... The doctor was. If the doctor is so arrogant that he cannot say please then his priorities are not to the patient. As well this is probably good for the Lab Techs who need to do their job carefully and without extra stress. So you think it is good for the patient to get their results from someone who is under stress to get it done, from a guy they don't like at all.
For most of the time this stuff isn't that time sensitive. A few hours or days delay is bad for the doctor as it messes up his billing $$$ but it has very minimal impact on the patient in terms of care.
I like this rule. You probably have never worked with MDs before. But let me tell you they are the worst people to deal with. Because they have a Dr. for a prefix and a MD for a suffix to their name they act like they are the smartest person in the world. So when they encounter something new to them, and out of their main scope they get very offensive, rude and makes everyones lives a little bit more stressful.
They will often treat non-MDs who work with them as underlings, who job is purely to aid the doctor from doing those little jobs that they don't like to do. They often hide the fact that they are jerks under the catch phrase "lives are at stake". Which is a medical term for "Think of the children" which also means "I want to do it the way I want to".
Forcing them to be polite while seems like just a silly step is actually quite powerful. Saying please before hand means that the work being done is done for the doctors benefit at the expense of someone elses time. Vs. Just shooting out orders that says you are here for me and just me.
At work we have a policy if a doctor is calling and is cursing and yelling at us without giving us any useful information we can tell them to call back after they have calmed down then we can help you. It isn't about restricting free speech is is about keeping things professional and trying to keep things running orderly.
Yes there is a cost savings by making the Dr. think twice, as well it can help keep the load down for the labs for a while.
1. Get a faster Internet Connection... I haven't had problems with long loading Flash Screens for YEARS. 2. Restaurants often don't have a team of Web Developers they tell a web developer what they want and they build it. Often their specs have the need for flash. 3. A lot of the sites are rather old and haven't been designed for Phones yet... As it is a new application to view their site they haven't capitalized on yet. 4. If you make your choices based on Flash on their site you must have a miserable life.
Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any more good guys left in the Desktop OS Wars, all the good guys turned to bad guys. Apple, Was going to be more open with OS X then they slowly closed everything off. Early to Mid Last decade it was actually a good balance between an open platform and a closed platform and taking the advantages of both. Apple then Locked things down so much that it is no longer friendly and now apple is trying to close off and dictate to its developers that just makes me sick to my stomach.
Linux, I'll probably be marked as a troll for this, but the Linux community hasn't been much good either... Over the past decade they seemed more fixated on the idealism of open source vs. actually making good software. Back in the late 90's and early 2000's Linux was showing a lot of improvement in its system. Then the community decided to fight against the closed source libraries and making people fear installing those "Non-Free" Drivers. Closed source developers for Linux have been more and more ostracized for not making their products open source. I don't think the Linux community turned evil, but I think they need a real kick in the pants to get them off of their high horse and working on improving the system. Their old chants about Linuxs stability and security are getting more and more outdated. And there hasn't been much improvement in a lot of the system design. If I were to take linux back in 1999 and compare it with today. Ill probably go oh, cool it now has wireless internet support and better USB... However in terms of ease of use and UI... It finally reached Windows 98 levels.
Microsoft, the typical bad guy... However Windows 7 is actually a good OS. It looks like Microsoft may have actually done something right. But long term I don't want to keep Microsoft on my Favorite OS list. It just seems wrong, like I am taking a drug or something.
We don't care about the Stars on the Southern hemisphere. Those are boring. The Northern Hemisphere stars are where its at.
I still fail to see how AT&T is any worse then the other Providers out there...
In the U.S. All Wireless carriers just stink. They are all expensive, don't have good reception in rural areas...
I moved from Verizon to AT&T Same number of bars. All really the same...
It isn't AT&T that is the issue it is the whole industry.
