I just installed the updates this morning on two computers. PowerMac Dual G4 1Ghz MDD
Same here. My DP 1.25Ghz MDD seems to be doing just fine with 10.2.8. If you look at the Apple support forums there have been some recent posts about the update causing battery problems in some laptops.
The article presents it as a rather laid-back approach to advertising. They are talking about adding links in the bookmarks menu of the browser, which can be easily removed. And do you really care that much if your screensaver has adverts? It's still "saving" your screen (; Same goes for installation, it's not like it's going to hassle you to see a few ads during install.
If Mandrake wants to sell ad space in such a manner that they aren't forcing people to keep the adverts throughout their use of the OS, I say more power to them.
"They knew we had the agreement, and that we'd won a lot of money from them already."
It's kind of sad that they consider it winning, like lawsuits are some kind of fun game. I also enjoy how they say "a lot of money." Shouldn't a statment from one of their officials be a little more "official"?
We'll see if you feel the same way when you think you are doing something perfectly legal (that you have payed for) and some group of corporations slaps you with a $2,000 fine for "damages" even though you have no idea what you've done wrong.
What a terrible world we live in where people feel that human emotion has no real meaning because the LAW is ALL that matters.
Yea, that's what I was talking about. My friend's band has been self-produced for a while now, in fact, I've found myself many times burning tons of CDs to help get them ready before a tour. And now they are signed to a small local label in Milwaukee that will be putting out their next CD that has NOTHING to do with the RIAA. Go indie music!
I wouldn't say "another compact disc" because not ALL CDs created have something to do with the RIAA. I am always glad to purchase CDs at shows from bands themselves. There is no better way to really give back to the music community then helping a band pay for gas to get home (:
Welcome to the world of marketing. No matter what the company, the benchmarks are always going to be made to look the best to sell the product. If that means increasing certain numbers and/or decreasing others, or working in unfair enviornments, they will do it. There is no reason to spite Apple for doing what everyone else does. If you want honest benchmarks, you'd have to buy whatever systems you want to compare yourself and make your own conclusion.
According to an item in the LJ FAQ, LJ was started sometime in March 1999 while blogger.com says it was launched in August 1999. Those are the two older ones I can think of and if they really are the two oldest it appears that LJ beat blogger to the punch.
When posting these stories could people please not say "University of Wisconsin" as Wisconsin has a system of Universities and not just one. Most often, and this case, the story is talking about the University of Wisconsin-Madsion. Up here at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh we haven't had any kind of DoS (:
Being a mac-savy person I don't have a long-time experience with Windows but I do work with it on a day-to-day basis at work. Recently I went to a friend's house to help her install a new computer she got and while running Windows Update I got that "NT/Authority System" shutdown dealy. After bouncing back and forth between symantec and microsoft I had managed to install like 2 different patches and run some application. I also found myself in regedit at one point.
Anyway, the point is, if the current system is confusing for someone who works with PCs as a techie for 8hrs a day 5 days a week, how confusing could it be for someone who only uses their computer for email and the internet?
Heh, apparently that's the popular way to look at it. My first job as an intern at Miles Kimball was mapping the layout of their entire server structure. Miles was recently bought out by Blyth and has an almost entirely new staff, so no one really knows what is going where and/or how. In the midst of checking for ACs going into the proper UPS and APC I managed to shut down the ENTIRE Call Center for ordering.
So...maybe it's NOT the best job for an intern? Or, maybe not the best job for a 250lb offensive linemen:P
This was modded as Insightful? And Interesting? Is that some kind of sick joke?
I'm sorry the world doesn't revolve around what you want, and I'm sorry people make mistakes sometims. But at least Apple has taken it upon themselves to take responsibility and provide refunds. Granted, it took a class action suit, but what doesn't in America?
I still wonder how some people manage to get mod points...
Anyone know why when I searched for "Mac floorplan software" in google I got a ton of mac warez/hacking sites? I guess a lot of pirates these days have grown, and need to design their new super 1337 pad.

The fact that I sat and watched that movie makes me realize why i don't have a girlfriend.
My first MSN image search will of course be: Bill Gates +pie

i would guess they have a higher-up who is a mac fan that was probably pushing them, only because it's rare to see such a setup with macs.
Another X1 benchmark that shows X2 machines running strangely slower then everybody else's benchmarks.
Replace X1 and X2 with any variable and the statement will still be true. Thanks to the Law of Marketing. (:

And the remaining 11% love Apple! :D
:\
Now if only Apple's market share could get even that high
UW-Zero, how utterly creative and bold you are!

Look! There's no stars! We don't really have anything on Mars, it's a stunt!
(For those of you unaware, this is poking fun at the critisim of this image and the whole "moon hoax")
Read the article:
San Luis Obispo, Calif.-based company that turned up a few dozen unlicensed copies of programs.
If he's using a few dozens copies of high-end business software, it could EASILY amount to the price he had to pay.
It's nice to see a business move to open source, but it's not like this guy didn't deserve what he got.
Microsoft cited 'security issues', but declined to offer specifics.
The "security issue" is, of course, the "leak" of vital advertisement money they would be getting (:
Also, if you read this comment it looks like MacSlash wasn't too excited to help someone else get slash code going on Xserve :\
