  2. Re:Prompted by BadFruit's BadApple? on iTunes 4.9 With Podcasting Support · · Score: 2, Informative

    Short answer: No.

The goal of BadApple is clearly stated in their FAQ:

    Why was BadApple created?

The goal is to make iTunes and iPods interoperate with other piles of media. I'm worried that when and if Apple adds podcast support they will only list a few podcasts that they approve. Remember this is a company that sues web sites that say good things about their upcoming products - bad Apple! Podcasts are significant because they offer a wide-range of diverse topics and ideas, not just those endorsed by one company. BadApple gives you access to all podcasts, - even ones which Apple might disagree with and never list in iTunes software.

    Good.

I was a big fan of ebay back in the day. I still have an account that I use on very rare occasion. But today ebay seems to be nothing more than a portal for people who don't want / can't afford to setup physical shop. Ebay lost is greatest quality, IMO, a while back: the personal experience.

The last few things I sold a couple of months ago were random shirts from indie bands. Of the five people I contacted after winning, none of them ever replied to my emails. One of them left me negative feedback because she felt the shirt was in poor condition. I would've been glad to refund her the money and let her keep the shirt if she had contacted me, but apparently talking to another human (even by email) is a bit too much for ebayers these days.

Not long ago some friends and I went to a show in Detroit and on the way home we randomly decided to take the bridge over to Canada. Upon entering Canada the woman asked us what our intentions were and the person driving said "I don't know, we just want to check out Canada." or something like that. So she waved us on without any other questions or ID checks and we went to Essex and got a pizza.

On the way back, however, the guy asked to see all of our licenses, questioned each of us about a variety of things, and did a search of the vehicle's trunk. All in all it took about twenty minutes. The same thing appeared to happen to the two vehicles before us.

Probably not worth drawing any serious conclusions, but I found the distinction to be rather amusing (:

I doubt any of our labels could afford to hire a lawyer to handle that. And I was not assuming it is illegal or fraudulent, nor do I think "Russians are bad." I was just noting our experiences (as a distributer) with ROMS.

If we can't personally contact them ourselves, why *should* they be allowed to distribute music that our labels represent? Maybe it's legal, maybe it's not, I don't know. But even it is 100% legal, we would not participate if we can't even talk to the people (Russian or not).

So there is a mechanism for you to get some money from this but they haven't replied to your e-mails. Have you tried phoning or writing to them ?

Apparently there is. We did also mail them, but were unable to find a phone number on their website and saw no reason to go searching for the number just so we could pay for a long distance call to Russia. The language barrier is obviously a problem in any of those cases as well.

I imagine it's not unheard of for artists or performers to experience much worse problems getting any money out of Western record companies.

I wouldn't say worse. I imagine artists have some trouble with major labels, but in the independent industry that is hardly ever the case. In my experience, it's more likely that a label will run out of money completely before it doesn't pay an artist (:

I have given them my credit card number something like a year ago and have not been the victim of any fraud or anyother unsavoury activity.

Yes, that quote is a sweeping generalization, but you gave your credit card number to a website focused on selling you music no matter what country you are from. The fact that none of our labels can find an application of any sort or even contact these people, probably leads them to feel rather insecure about giving them any type of information.

    Maybe that's the ROMS intention?
